Downtown bound, Harlem Bar is the perfect place to 'chillax' after six o'clock, seven days a week. The space is just small and open enough to make mingling extremely easy and natural. Harlem Bar has an uncanny ability of always landing the perfect DJ - which is clutch for any unwinding time. Though they have tampered with and altered the menu since they've opened, they still haven't gotten it right. The soul-foodish selection is overpriced and simply not good. Go, mingle, have a great time but swing by the Waffle House on the way home. more

My friend had told me she had the most amazing soul food at the Harlem Bar, a tiny restaurant on Edgewood Ave, so I thought I'd try it out. Too bad she didn't mention that was 8 months ago. The restaurant wasn't serving entrees, only appetizers and sides. The mac and cheese was tasteless, the yams were from a can and they were out of half of the other sides. Our waitress was inattentive and brought the check after 1 drink when I'd been planning on having a few. The real kicker was my bill for chicken wings, one side and 2 drinks was $46. This is a nice place. I have been 4 times and on one visit my husbands food was not right and the manger went into the kitchen cooked it himself to make it right and gave him free desert. The workers are always nice and friendly. Pros: Good Foo Cons: Parking more

My husband and girlfriend went to hang out and eat. The atmosphere was very nice. We did not wait long. When we got the menu and it was very limited and the prices were high. So I figured the food had to be gooood. Booooy was I wrong. The cornbread was on point. I ordered the meat loaf mac and cheese and collard greens. It was not worth $14. The food was very bland and my girlfriend had to use hot sauce on the fried chicken bc it was sooo bland. My husband eats anything so he really did not have any complaints. But this place is waaaayyy over priced. more

Now I want u to know I have been going to harlem bar since 2007, its was one of my favorite places to eat and mingle no lie, this place was the place to be in Atlanta , all my friends that would come from out of town I would bring them here cause the food was that good and they agreed without a doubt . until then the food was to die for, till 2008,... 2009, now they were close for a month or so in and I didn't know when they where going to open back, but I went back a few days ago, cause I loved the food, and believe the food was all that, turkeymeat loaf, mac and cheese and yams, crazy good! , but when I went back the meat loaf didn't have that taste anymore the mac and cheese was ok and the yams was still good, just good, I want to know what happen its was my spot just to get a good meal. I'm not giving up on u guy's but somethings got to give please. bring back the harlem bar, please I love u guy's and I know u know what has to be done . love u guy's this edward more

Went here with Friends. We ordered drinks, and they were okay. I Ordered their fried chicken dinner which was 1/4 White meat and two sides for $11! I immediately asked for another piece of chicken and was told that mgmt would charge me $3 so now im up to 14! I bit into the chicken and it was TASTELESS! I'd never had such a BLAND PIECE OF CHICKEN IN MY LIFE! I told the server that I wanted to send it back. He went to get the mgr. The mgr then insulted me by saying that I hadn't even tasted the chicken! I showed him the piece of the wing that i'd bitten into and he further insulted me by saying that I'd only be able to taste the flavor if I bit into the breast ! BS! I know good seasoned food and you can taste it in the first bite! I bit into it (breast) and the same thing. I asked him to make a suggestion for me, and i shouldn't have done that. He suggested the turkey meatloaf. I'm assuming because its probably the most profitable item on his menu due to the cheap cost of ground turkey! The mgr took the dish away, and came back 5 minutes later, with a sheepish grin on his face laughing saying that that was a great piece of chicken! This fool bit into the other piece on my plate! (How Nasty!) They brought it out steaming and it was okay. The only thing that was really good in my opinion were their collard greens! Sweet potatoes were okay, and the Macaroni and cheese, had an "OVERBITE" of Sharp Cheddar! What sent us over the age and further cemented my decision to NEVER GOT HERE AGAIN was what i witnessed at the table next to us. Two women came in, ordered a drink. One drink wasn't good and the mgr had an attitude as he went back to get another 1. The woman was offended & said that they would just pay for the drink and leave. On his way back to the bar, he took a sip of the lady's drink. Did he just get out of the halfway house? The mgr said "JUST LEAVE"! NEVER EVER AGAIN! He has No Class! My girl had a great experience and had been really excited about us going there. It's a cool place, as was their other failed restaurant Rare. At the end of the day I'd say they have a knack for ambiance with no ability to deliver edible food. The catfish fingers were great but not worth 9$. Then the 14$ entree's came. I had to ask for a decent fork as mine was all bent up and sorry i like it to be clean. So the pork chops were thin sliced basic KROGER pork-chops and Parmesan grit's were WEAK at best. Her salmon was cooked so hard I had to explain to the waitress that my fork stuck solidly in to the fish and stood like a flag. The server was great and really tried to accommodate but at the end charged us for everything then ran my card for even more than the bill. Felt like a HARLEM SCAM if you ask me!!!!! At the end of the day go to Piccadilly and have better food and better service. Go there for a drink but watch the wine list. 10$ wine that had been opened for a while. What ever you do, do not spend your money at this restaurant! The HARLEM BAR is HORRIBLE.!!!!!!!! I went there in November last year(2008), the food was really great, small portions but great food. I had out of town guests and bragged about this place so much that we went there during the Christmas holidays (2008). What an enormous mistake!!! They told us they were out of greens, how can you be out of greens and the place just opened for dinner at 6pm, we arrived at 6:30????? I had crab cakes and my guests had various dishes. Every stinkin' dish was horrible. It seems this place is under new management or something. They need to bring back the old chef and his/her assistants. The food was so bad, my guests refused to go to any other restaurants... Even a first grader can make better food than this. Please, don't go, you are truly wasting your money and time if you do. My friend suggested Harlem Bar. First, parking is horrendous! We spent 5 minutes circling the block looking for a spot. When we finally entered and were seated I looked at the very limited menu. I ordered the smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese. Nothing was seasoned properly, the cheese was clotty and the pork chops had more fat than edible meat. The drinks were completely watered down and there was no point in having a conversation at your table because the music was so loud. I will never go there again! On 12/20/08 a group of 35-40 of us happily attended a graduation dinner at Harlem Bar. I started the evening experimenting with the drink called Harlem Shake, after a literal taste (no fault of the bartender) it was not to my liking. I requested a Cab Sauv instead or to replace it. The server said I had to speak to his manager. After an extended time I inquired again and he said "did you speak to my manager?" Was I, the guest, suppose to look or fetch the manager?!! To my shock, I had to get the manager?s attention. At the end of the night I was charged, at the consent of the manager, for TWO drinks. I've NEVER heard of paying for a drink you did not like or consume. I did not want a free drink. I simply wanted a drink I could enjoy. Secondly, if Harlem Bar is just opening it?s door for the evening don't ask for "(corn)bread" even if it?s on the menu because they will not have it ? 86 it! Harlem Bar has atmosphere that's it! Me and my boyfriend went here on Valentines Day because it looked interesting and wanted to check it out. Theres no safe parking, and ladies if you are wearing heels it is extremely likely that you will break your ankle trying to walk across that "parking lot". The food was so bland and sloppily presented. My greens were drenched in some sauce and were absolutely disgusting. Our server could not have been any more unenthusiastic and less interested in our business. He came across like some kind of robot. We were charged $10 in refills, mind you the cups are about as big as toddlers sippy cup and the server could have told us we were getting charged. I was in town for a week long conference and a friend who lived in Atlanta suggested that we go there for dinner. I must say that the food was great! I had turkey meat loaf with mashed potatoes and collard greens and my friends had the fried chicken ceasar salad and blackened catfish with mac and cheese and spinach. We all had several martini's. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the service was good. I enjoyed it so much that I went twice in one week. They even called a taxi for us when we were ready to leave. Oh and I have to say that the peach cobbler was banging! We wanted the sweet potato cheese cake but they were all out. The cobbler was just as good if not better. I'm from Philly so it was nice to get out of the hotel and go to a place that felt right. The only negative thing that I can say is that the side portions on the second night were very light. I love the Harlem Bar. Everything about The Harlem Bar sings quite sophistication. When we arrived at The Harlem Bar we were seated fairly quickly. My girlfriends and I started off with Martinis. I have the Banana Pudding Martini which I should have waited until after dinner to have because it was better the actual Banana Pudding you have from your grandmother. Also, please get there early because the seating is limited. The Harlem Bar is known for their eclectic Soul Food menu. We started off with the, Chicken, Collard Greens & Mac & Cheese. I was in town for the weekend and wanted a cool place NOT to crowded to eat and drink. This place was nice. Not too crowded. The food was okay. The drinks GREAT! The service good. The DJ and music AWESOME! A nice plce to go and get a quick bite (shrimp and grits) and drink before heading home or after the movies (i do not go clubbing) :-) I didn't like it being under and overpass, but the drink quickly took that edge off. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to unwind with friends. more
