A delicious treat 8/29/2009

Happy Family has one of the largest menus I've ever seen. The made to order buffet alone has something like 80 dishes, including vegetarian versions of foods that you just can't get anywhere else. Most everything I've ever tried here is tasty. Pros: Buffet more

Terrible Food and Service! 1/2/2009

The food is super greasy. I mean, there's no meat in any of the dishes, so how does all that grease get there? We didn't even finish our food, and neither did the people who were seated next to us. Everyone left full dishes on the table to look for better food elsewhere. The service was terrible. No one would fill our tea, even though the server kept walking by us. They kept taking care of the ""high-end' customers in the private rooms. It took us over 30 minutes to get them to bring us our checks. Definitely not recommended. Cons: Everything! more

My Favorite Restaurant in LA Area 7/3/2008

I have been a customer of Happy Family for about 4 years now and have never had a bad experience. The food is fresh and delicious and the waitresses are friendly. My favorites are : sesame chicken, dry sauteed string beans, soy fish and their hot and sour soup! I have brought at least 30 different people to Happy Family over the years and not a single one was disappointed. In regards to the racism charge another person left, I've brought people from every ethnicity and never experienced a difference in service. They do get busy there so sometimes you have to get their attention when you walk in to get a table. I highly recommend Happy Family to anyone that enjoys great food and an extensive all-you-can-eat menu! Pros: great food, all-you-can-eat menu, reasonably priced Cons: so far from west la! more

STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED 10/25/2007

My wife and I have been customer of Happy Family 3 for more than 10 years. After our visit today, we will not go back to this restaurant again, and will not recommend this restuarant to anyone. The dishes are poorly prepared, and ingredients used were not the same as shown in the menu. The service was not up to standard. Some of the servers were not professsional. After all, the food was bad, and the service was not good...STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED THIS RESTAURNT TO ANYONE. more

Most R@cist RESTAURANT and Wrost Guest Services and Parking 9/8/2007

The location for this place is so hard to get to. Parking is awful when is packed. When we finally found the restaurant we walked up to the door and looked for the host. No was there to help nor say anything. I think these Chinese people have race problems with my best friend. If you want to go to this place don't bring in a Black person with you cause they won't serve you! We left and didn't even try out their food base of the fact they won't talk to me. Cons: EVERYTHING more

Go for the sweet bread, stay for the taro. 7/2/2007

Oh, Happy Family. If only my own family were as fun and healthy as you! If you're even thinking about trying this place out, make plans and do it this weekend with a group of three or four friends. I promise you'll be as hooked as the rest of us. If you bring a group large enough you might qualify for the gigantic lazy-susan table in the back room. It's perfect for fast-passing that third round of taro! 11:30-2:45pm is the all-you-can-eat lunch. It's a great deal and includes tea and delicious sweet bread. Some of my favorite dishes are the taro (obviously), sesame chicken, green beans, and sweet & sour pork. I love that when you leave, you can be full to the brim, but still feeling healthy and energized. Pros: Vegan food anyone can enjoy! Great price and service. Cons: Parking can be tight on weekends in the mall complex. more

Best Food Ever! 5/3/2007

I'm not even vegetarian and I think this is the best food ever! It's the food of the gods. You gotta try it once and you'll see. This is the stuff I want to eat on my birthday. Every single vegetarian or carnivore alike seems to somehow know about this place and love it. Downside is, I think the secret has been out for a while now. The place is always packed. Pros: Excellent Food, Service, Parking Cons: Decor more

Great veggie food! 12/14/2006

I totally LOVE this place. I've been going to Happy family in Monterey Park since 1999. I totally love the food. You can't miss with the all you can eat special. You can get a taste of so many different dishes, get delicious bread and soup for under $12! If its your first time there, you absolutely have to try the Fried rice, House chicken, and tofu-corn soup! One taste and you will be hooked! I've been hooked for the passed 7 years or so. I took my Non-veggie boyfriend and now he see's why I've been going there since 1999. The staff is nice and very attentive. i <3 this place! Pros: great food, cheap, good service Cons: parking can be a pain at times more

Best Chinese Vegetarian Restaurant in Southern California 8/17/2006

This is the best chinese vegetarian restaurant in Southern California. The new venue at 111 n. Atlantic Blvd., corner Garvey, is way nicer than the previous location. Crystal chandeliers, window looking out at the mountains. The food is really good, imitating meat and fish dishes really well. The price of $10.75 for all you can eat is still an amazing deal. I love the chef's fish with hot sauce, the stir fried spinach, the sizzling squid, pork and beef, the house chicken. Very loyal clientele for a reason. Always reliable, always good. We go about twice a month, at least. more

A good place for non-vegetarians too! 7/22/2006

First, due to a major construction project the restaurant moved to 101 N Atlantic (5 blocks south in the big pink bldg, 3rd floor). They will return to the old block (in a brand new building) when construction is completed in 2007. This place is a long-time favorite for lunch where everyone can fill up cheaply. For dinner the menu is typically huge. I've tried over 50 dishes here and have only once been disappointed. String beans, house cicken (mushrooms actually), and eggplant are particularly good. I've been here with nearly all my friends and co-workers, including the meat and potato types, and everyone liked it. Pros: lunch is very reasonable, food Cons: atmosphere is better, still not that good more

Go here when you need your body cleansed. 11/14/2005

Great restaurant. I've been going to this place for years and years and years. Favorites are the following: eggplant with basil, house fried chicken with sesame, fake fish with brown sauce, sizzling place with veggies and assorted fake meats, sauteed pea sprouts. I know the names don't appetizing, but oh, the food is good. more

Stuffed like a faux-pig 1/22/2003

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to, vegetarian or not. Everything that my party of 5 ordered was deliciious. Plus, you can't beat the price - $10.75 for all that you can eat (and that doesn't mean all-you-can-eat of the first dish you order - you can keep ordering anything you want from the buffet menu)! We all stuffed ourselves silly. Just note, the kitchen closes early (around 7:45 PM), so make sure you get there in plenty of time to sample the many dishes they have to offer. Pros: Yummy, Cheap, All-you-can-eat more

We love this place! 11/29/2002

We go to Happy Family 3-4 times a year, whenever we visit my mother. We'd go more often if it weren't 400 miles away! The food is quite tasty. The lunch dishes are huge and inexpensive. The best deal is the ""buffet""which is really an all-you-can-eat affair where the waitresses will bring you as many helpings of as many dishes you can eat (You can't take home the leftovers). The staff is very friendly and efficient even when it is wildly busy!! The clientele ranges from non-yuppies like my family to some very upper crust folk who are ultra dressed up. When we go with the extended family the strict vegans to the hard core carnivores love it equally! Pros: Great food!, Very friendly staff! Cons: Can be crowded more
