Awesome 8/21/2010

When we bought our 1979 VW transporter it had been sitting for 3 years. Tom at Halsey completely rebuilt the engine and transmission for much less than others were quoting. We haven't had any problems since. Tom even gave us his phone number so we could call and ask questions on the road! 12,000 miles later we took her back for a check up and got out of there with all the maintenance we needed for $72!! On our way to another care-free 12,000. Tom and Debbie are both so kind and friendly. We stay in contact with them on the road and send them Christmas cards. How many mechanics can you say that about!! Take your VW here and she'll be in good hands. more

Legal action against Halsey 2/8/2010

I Paid $1400 for tranmission work that never worked right, I took the car back 3 -4 times while still under warranty and they did not coorect it - then suddenly when the warranty was expired - I was told I would have to pay more for them to work on it again. For some reason they could not work on it and fix it correctly while it was under warranty. The transmission completly stopped working and they refuse to fix it. After taking the car to A&P service center - with out me mentioning who had worked on it - I was told the transmission needed a complete rebuild and would not cost near $1400 And he also mentioned whom ever worked on it did not know what they were doing. I am now filing legal action against Halsey more

Halsey Automotive is the best in PDX 12/21/2008

I have several VW and Audi cars. I have been taking them to Halsey Automotive for years. Their service is excellent. Yes, they are busy, because they are the best in town. However they are always accommodating and realistic about when they can get to your car. Their estimates are honest and accurate. The pricing is more than fair. They really know VAG cars. The repairs have been of quality and they stand behind their work. They went above and beyond with me when a sub contractor screwed up. Try getting that kind of service, on an old VW, at the dealer. Once your warrantee is up with the dealer, I highly recommend Halsey Automotive. more

Halsey Automotive - great for VW's 12/26/2005

My starter broke on my 1970 VW bus while traveling through Portland the summer of 2005 and after calling several places I found Halsey could fit me in on short notice. They did good work and I went on my way. On the way back on my trip my engine locked up and ultimately needed to be rebuilt. I was positively impressed by the recent experience I had with Halsey, and chose to have them do the rebuild. They were good at explaining the options and pricing, and I am very satisfied with the work they did. I recommend them. They know VW's. more

Halsey Repair Shop not Customer Oriented 12/13/2005

These guys pay very little attention to the customer. My bus wouldn't start so I brought it to these guys cuz they are close and they told me they could get to it that day. Well one day later and they still had not gotten to it. Instead of the guy apologizing, he defended himself adamantly telling me how busy he was. I've heard "NEVER TAKE YOUR BUS TO HALSEY", just wish i would have listened. For Parts they are great, just don't let them touch your engine!!!!! more
