Dr. Al, as he asked my kids to call him, is great with kids. He is gentle, always explains what he's going to do before he does it, and has a very soothing manner. He allows parents to sit beside small children and comfort them, and he was my son's first and favorite dentist. The waiting room is nice, and you don't spend too much time waiting for your appointment to begin. I especially liked the way he scheduled a meeting before the first appointment to get to know our family and our dental history. The stairs are a pain, and I've never seen an elevator, but the parking is plentiful. His office staff was really good at dealing with insurance, too. My only complaint was that he and his hygienists used "baby talk" with my kids: "tooth string" instead of floss, "tooth vitamins" instead of fluoride, etc. It is why we stopped using him as a dentist, my son felt uncomfortable having to say "tooth string", and felt they thought he was dumb. But Al Hackman is a terrific dentist, and I'd recommend him to anyone.
