Having tried my hand at salsa dancing in Latin America, I was hankering for a try back home. My friend told me about Habana Village, and I was sold. The dance floor, long and narrow, heats up with attractive couples unabashedly strutting in sensual, coordinated movements across the floor. As a beginner, I have to say I was a little overwhelmed, but tasty mojitos (sadly served in plastic cups) took away a little of my shame. The music was a great mix, mostly salsa, and merengue, but also other Latin genres like bachata. The bar offers salsa lessons, as well as energetic live music. more

  • Step off Columbia Road and into Habana Village and feel instantly transported from D.C.'s Adams Morgan to the shores of Cuba. Downstairs, enjoy traditional Cuban cuisine--such as plantains, masitas and maduros--amid twinkling lights, Cuban murals and leafy palms. On the second floor, DJs spin modern salsa, meringue, bachata and timba hits, where patrons show off moves learned from salsa classes offered nightly Wednesday through Saturday.
