False Estimates 3/4/2013

After buying a tax program from H&R Block on line for $54.99 I had problems understanding the terms used in the program, so I took my tax paperwork to H&R Block in Sherwood, Oregon and asked for an estimate for my tax prep after explaining all my circumstances. I was then told my prep fee would be between $200 and $300. I then explained that I bought a program on line and was wondering if H&R did my taxes if I could get credit for the on line program I didn't use. Much to my dismay, my final tax bill came to $426, but with a $25 discount coupon it came to $401 and no resolution to the fact that I bought on online program. It's a shame that H&R Block doesn't communicate within itself. So, for my tax preparation for 2012 I paid H&R Block a total of $455.99. Never Again............. more

BEWARE of hidden fees and tax-preparers 2/2/2012

BEWARE of hidden fees and tax-preparers that tell you that you don't need to read the entire four page legal document,. The preparer summarized it for my daughter......leaving out ALL the hidden fees. My 23 year daughter had to pay $263 dollars in fees. I have a complicated return with a job, small business, and itemized deductions and only pay $150 to my CPA. Pros: null Cons: null more

Watch out for hidden fees! They will 2/2/2012

Watch out for hidden fees! They will screw you over! They did not fully disclose how much all the small fees would be. They said they had me sign a document that fully disclosed these but I was unaware. What they gave me to sign they said that I didn't even need to read over because it was just saying they could look at my tax documents legally. When I called to confront them about this they were very rood and basically said they don't really care because legally since I signed and they were in the right. I was charged almost $200 more than if I went to a normal CPA. They advertise as cheap but this is a false. My documents were not complicated at all. I will NEVER go to them again. Pros: null Cons: null more

  • In Short
Known for its green block logo, this Kansas City, Mo.-based company started helping customers complete their annual income tax forms in 1955 the same year the IRS stopped doing it for free. Founding brothers Henry and Richard Bloch quickly franchised their idea and, in 2000, the financial centers' repertoire began to include year-round services, such as mortgage and brokerage services, annuities, mutual funds and IRAs and eforms
