In 1923, Rockport Texas pioneer Theodore Johnson, then President of the First National Bank of Rockport Texas, founded what was known as the Rockport Insurance Agency. The new agency was one of the first of its kind in the area, serving the interests of ship builders, ranchers, merchants, businesses and newcomers to the blossoming Texas Coast. The agency prospered throughout the years. It has expanded and adapted to become a proven continuous provider of insurance to the surrounding area and throughout Texas. In 1991 John McDavid, Jr., great grandson of Mr. Johnson, assumed control of the agency. As the climate in the insurance industry has changed drastically, John knew that he would have to do more than just provide great service to maintain GSM's share of the market. In January 1998, GSM Insurors became a founding partner of the Insurors Group, LLC, an alliance of progressive agencies in the state of Texas. Insurors Group, LLC, in 2007 made the Insurance Journal Top 100 Property/ Casualty Independent Insurance Agencies list of privately held property and casualty agencies in the country.
