Stephanie Rocks! 3/4/2010

I walked into Green Tangerine about two years ago and Stephanie cut my hair. I had been to about six places before that - all fancy, West Hartford places and could never get a quality haircut. I can't vouche for any of the other hair stylists, but if you want a quality haircut and color that matches up with the best that NY and boston have to offer, schedule with Stephanie. You won't be sorry - I promise! Pros: For the best haircut in CT, go to Stephanie more

Great Hairstyle 2/13/2010

I had my hair colored and styled recently at Green Tangerine in South Windsor. I left the salon feeling the best I have in years thanks to Mary, the stylist. I went into work the next day and was showered with compliments about the new hairstyle and how it also made me look much younger. That's a great thing for someone middle-aged. It's the best I've felt in years about myself. Go to the salon and request Mary. She's got great skill and personlaity as well. Pros: Best Hairstyle more

Great Salon 12/12/2009

I went to Green Tangerine for the first time in October. I had my hair colored, higlighted and styled by Mary. She is pleasant and a great stylist. I received an unbelievable amount of compliments about my hair after I had it done. Many of my friends told me it was was the best style I've ever had. The salon was inviting and Mary made me feel very comfortable and at ease. I would highly recommend this salon and would always request Mary to do my hair. Pros: Great Hairstylist more

good haircut but horrible service 7/24/2009

I have been going to this salon for 4 years and usually had great haircuts however the customer service was always "snotty". I would ask for prices for service and given attitude when I inquired. I loved the first few haircuts but realized that I was being charged a different price everytime which didnt make sense. Also, the hair color services are not good. I got my hair dyed and my stylist didnt have time to finish so she put her "assistant" in charge. Needless to say the integrity of my hair was ruined and I needed corrective services. The stylist apologized but still charged me $200. I asked to speak to a manager and I got the run around and never got in touch with a manager. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for but I clearly did not receive the services promised so now I am switching to a different salon. Pros: pretty salon, offers tea Cons: poor customer service, high prices more

Great customer service 10/25/2008

I went here to buy a giftcard for my girlfriend for her birthday. The guy at the desk was really nice and helped me pick out a package for her since I am totally clueless. I needed a haircut so I figured I might as well get one while I was there, so I asked the guy if there was someone available and he booked me an appointment. I ended up with a great haircut. Everyone was really nice and I'll definitely go back. Can't wait to give my girlfriend her birthday gift. Pros: Nice, friendly, make you feel comfortable, good haircut more

Awesome haircut! 10/25/2008

I just moved to the area and bumped into this salon while I was checking out Evergreen Walk and doing some shopping. I went in to get prices, and the people at the desk were so nice that I decided to take a chance and get my haircut. I got put with Maria, who was amazing! She listened to what I wanted, made me feel really comfortable and gave me a great haircut! I will definitely be back! Pros: Great haircut, great area more

Worst Manicure Times 2 9/17/2008

I have just moved to the area and need to find a great nail salon. I decided to give this place a try....bad move. The women did not file or buff my nails and the polish look like S#@&. I had to go home and take it off. I told myself I would never go back. Like a j@!# I was in a rush and needed a manicure quick so I went in again. I made sure I did not have the same girl as before. This time was just as bad. I will never go to this spa again.... NEVER. more

Great for Hair/Wax, Horrible on My Nails 7/11/2008

The two times I have been in to get my hair cut, I have had an amazing experience. Nicole was extremely personable, listened to what I wanted and to my concerns, and did an *excellent* job on my hair -- I have never received so many compliments on it. She recommended products according to what I was looking to do with my hair and was never pushy or rude. The last time I went in, I decided to get waxed (eyebrows, lip, full brazilian) and have my nails done as well (manicure and pedicure). The wax went well - Debra did a fantastic job and I'm definitely going back to have everything done again. My manicure and pedicure, however, were a disaster. I wasn't able to catch the name of the woman who did my nails as she hardly said anything the entire hour and a half she was working on me. I felt uncomfortable (which is a rarity for me), as if I was causing her a great disservice by being there. My nails were not buffed, which is something every other nail tech has done, and I was in great pain the entire time my cuticles were being pushed back and cut. Paying $20 for a soak, trim, cuticles, and polish was not exactly money well spent - but neither was the $60 for my toes. The polish was uneven, there were bumps and lumps, and clear polish extended past my nails and onto my fingers. My toes, while they were buffed down, suffered the same bitter end with the polish. I have never seen someone be so unprofessional in a spa/salon that seems to pride itself on its high quality of services provided, and have decided that I will save my money and do my nails myself next time, as that is what ultimately came of the experience -- I came home, peeled off the layers of polish, buffed my own nails, and re-polished them myself. Great for hair and esthetics -- save your money and go elsewhere for nail services. Pros: Parking, Timely Service, Great Hair and Esthetics Services, Not Pushy Cons: Horrible Nail Service, On the Pricey Side more

Bad experience 7/10/2008

I have been to this salon several times for haircuts. I have long hair that is easy to style. I only get it trimmed with angles in the front, which is not a difficult cut to do. The first couple times I went, I had a different stylist each time and was happy with the result; although they didn't really give me that much attention. They were not friendly and when I wanted advice on products I felt like they didn't want to be bothered with it. I was lucky one time and I had one stylist who did an amazing job on my hair...added a view layers in the back that gave me volume and I loved it. I went back to see the same stylist a couple months later, and I was shocked at how poorly I was treated. First she seemed annoyed that I was there because apparently she did not know I had an appointment with her. Then she called me the wrong name several times. When she asked me what I wanted I told her I wanted her to do what she did last time she cut it and gave her a detailed description in case she didn't remember. I was completely unsatisfied with the way she cut it. The angles were very uneven.....and it looked horrible. I was not able to style my hair since the angles did not curl inward like they always had in the past. I decided never to go back there again and went to another Aveda salon several months later after my hair had grown out. They stylist who cut my hair told me that my hair in the back was very uneven.......3 inches shorter on one side!!! I had no idea my hair had really been that uneven. Overall, I would not recommend going to this salon. I thought the stylist I saw was great until I went back for a second cut. It baffles me how someone who is supposed to trained could mess up a simple cut. The customer service at the front desk is also horrible....and they are very pushy about buying products. Pros: products Cons: everything else more

Okay experience for facial, good for massage 5/11/2008

My husband bought me a gift certificate for my 40th birthday for a facial and massage. I arrived a little early and they had me fill out forms and I waited about 20 minutes before going in for my 1 hour facial. She spent about 40 minutes on me (not aware until after I left). The massage was great and she used the full time. The facial person was a bit snippy and told me all the things I was doing wrong to my skin (I believe I have lovely skin). Next time I went back, I told the story to a very lovely facial person, and she told me that person had since been fired. They need to do a much better job screening their employees. A very nice spa otherwise although those are the only services I've had there. Not cheap though. Pros: Some very friendly and experienced staff Cons: Some staff, not so great more

Kicked it up a notch.... 4/18/2008

I went to the Green Tangerine In South Windsor a few weeks ago... I was kinda shocked when i saw the reviews but was recommended by a friend of mine. I arrived early for my appointment and was greeted very nicely. They were very accomodating to me being early. The stylist was ready for me as soon as i sat down. I usually have a hard time getting exactly what i want with my hair and knew it could be hard for the stylist.... I let her know that color usually takes very different when applied to my head. She was very confident when i told her my situation which made me feel very confident. All said and done.. my hair came out better than I imagined. She really captured exactly what I was thinking for my color and gave me a great cut. I've always been scared to cut it shorter but its amazing!!! Despite all the negative reviews I read I believe Green Tangerine has the talent and professionalism that I look for in a GREAT salon. I will def. be coming back for my hair and also to try some spa services. Everyone there was awesome!!! Pros: GREAT TALENT.... SERVICE WAS GREAT ALL AROUND Cons: NONE! more

Great ambience & skilled staff 4/10/2008

I have gotten my hair cut & colored several times here... and when it comes to my hair, I am a tough-to-please customer. I went once in a pinch with no plans of leaving my usual salon but was hooked. Maria is amazing! I also have gotten a massage there. The massage therapist was very knowledgable and did a great job. Just like with my hair, I know a good massage from a bad one. I highly recommend this salon! more

Had a good day! 4/3/2008

I've been to the Green Tangerine a few times when just shopping around. I scheduled a facial there once and it was a great experience. I have to say that the bad reviews shocked me a little so I decided to pay some attention. My husband and I went in before Easter and I wanted color while he wanted a cut. We were both greeted, our coats were taken, and we were asked if we wanted a drink (coffee, tea, water). Then our stylists came to get us and there the experiences started to differ. I had someone who finally got it right. The color was perfect and after I asked if she had time for a trim. She said she was hoping I'd say that and I told her I needed something new. I have never gotten so many compliments after leaving a salon as I did that day. I'll admit it's a little more pricy than some other salons I've been to but for me it was worth it, plus your paying for the spa experience. My husband on the other hand had a woman who didn't really listen to him and who gave him one of the worst haircuts he's had, and I cut his hair myself once. I would suggest the salon to everyone I know, with a little word of warning. If you feel that someone isn't doing what you want, speak up. They have a variety of people working there and I think they might benefit from personal reviews to wean out the people who make it a less than pleasant experience. If you do go... I highly recommend Beth. I'll be going back to her soon for a touch up and trim. I'll continue to return to them for most of my services. I love Aveda products, and I've been lucky with the staff so far. Pros: The products and most of the staff make it a great experience. Cons: Some of the staff can make it an uncomforterable experience. more

Loved it! 3/10/2008

I went to Green Tangerine this Saturday, and I love my hair!!! I have never felt like a stylist really understood and listened to me as much as Karen did this Saturday. I get blond highlights on a regular basis, but I felt like I needed something slightly different and an updated cut, and Karen exceeded my expectations. The receptionists at the desk were friendly and helpful, and the salon itself is beautiful. Karen took me right on time, and the shampoo chairs were amazing. The products Karen used and recommended really made a difference on my hair, and in general I just love the color and cut!! I will recommend Green Tangerine to all my friends! Pros: great stylst, friendly staff, beautiful location Cons: none! more

WOW! 3/9/2008

I went to Green Tangerine to get my haircut and colored, despite the reviews I read on citysearch. I'm glad I did! The girl at the front desk was great and offered to take my coat and gave me a great cup of coffee. Erin was so nice and listened to what I wanted and actually gave it to me. I love my hair! Pros: really nice staff more

Cold Water Shampoo 3/9/2008

Yesterday I went to the Green Tangerine Spa in South Windsor for the first time. I was very pleased with my full color and cut although $170 is A LOT of money to me for a cut and color. The hair dresser was very nice and expressed the need of a good shampoo and conditioner for my hair. I usually use Redken Color Care products but she said these products were not good and I should get the Kerastase line to protect the color in my hair. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would cost over $100 for shampoo, conditioner and treatment. I was in shock when I went to pay but just paid and left. After leaving the salon I started to feel really guilty about spending $289 for my hair which is way above my budget. Anyway I called the salon today (less then 24 hours) after leaving yesterday to ask if there was anyway I could return the product and I was told no. I guess I learned my lesson the hard way and although I love my hair cut and color I am upset. I am upset because after I left the salon I got on the internet to see what was so special about Kerastase and found that it is part of the L'Oreal group of companies, which includes Lancome, Redken, Garnier, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Biotherm, Kerastase, and Vichy, as well as L'Oreal. If Redken is part of this group what is so bad about the Redken product that I was using that is more in my price range? Additionally, I went on the website for reviews about Green Tangerine Spa in South Windsor and saw 4 bad reviews. Had I read the reviews I would not have gone. Although I liked my cut and color there was NO hot water to wash my hair and the girl had to wash it in COLD water. For the amount of money that I paid I don't see how the Salon could not have hot water to wash our hair. Nice hairsylist cut and color but not happy with cold water (not her fault) and price of products. Pros: trendy location Cons: too expensive more

WORST HAIR CUT EVER!!! DO NOT GO!!! SPARE YOUR HAIR!!! 2/11/2008

I had a consult on my hair at Green Tangerine before I even had them cut my hair. I have naturally curly hair and it is important that it is done correctly. I explained that I like long exaggerated layers cut forward in to an A frame and showed her a picture. She said she knew exactly what I was talking about. The first hair cut was a success. She left the sides alone just as I asked. The second hair cut was a disaster. My bottom layers were short. The crown of my hair was left long. My sides were angled. I went back with in a few weeks to have it corrected. She sat me down telling me that we had to talk. I felt threatened. She told me that my hair grows to fast and that if I wanted it cut, I would have to pay. I told her I needed my hair cut again and that what I got was not what I wanted. I told her again how I needed to have my hair styled. She cut my layers two to three inches shorter and left the top long again. And worse yet, my sides are cut off! I feel like I have a mullet!!! This in not what I wanted. I simply wanted her to cut my hair like I asked. I did nothing to cause her to treat me in such a fashion. I spent $120.00 to be mistreated. On top of that she was trying to sell me products. She told me that my hair won't do what I want until I get products. This is such nonsence and is very unprofessional! I gave them a chance to make things right. SAVE YOUR HAIR! DO NOT GO THERE!!! Cons: Hair dressers do what they want. They do not listed to clients. more

The worst experience of my life at a Salon!!! 1/30/2008

I wanted to pamper myself at GreenTangerine because of my 30th birthday coming up. I called 3 days in advance and scheduled a full set acrylic. When I got to GreenTangerine the gentleman at the front desk was very kind. He directed me to a young lady to get my nails done. The lady began to file my chewed up nails and removed my cuticles and then asked me to pick a nail color. I thought it was too soon but I did anyways. Once I realized she was going to polish my nails. I asked her "are you aware i want a full set?" she said to me "You're kidding right" and I said "NO I made an appt. 3 days in advanced" She then went ahead and told me that a lady that works there took the whole "Nail Kit" HOME with her!!! So therefore, she wasn't gonna be able to do my nails. I couldn't believe it!! Who takes the nail kit home!!!! Especially if your at a Nail/Spa Salon!! What if you have walk-ins ..? Pros: The products Cons: Horrible Customer Service.. more

Horrible!!! 11/30/2007

On May 18th, 2007, I visited an Aveda Salon/Spa called "Green Tangerine" in South Windsor, CT. I did not have a scheduled appointment, I simply wanted to browse through the store to find some shampoo or moisturziers. When I walked into the store, it was about 9:00p. When I walked into the store, I saw a young woman who was attending the front desk; she did not greet me with a smile or even a hello; in fact, she did not even acknowledge me. As I walked in, she looked up and then looked downand continued to type away at her computer. I proceeded to browse in the salon for 15 minutes or so. At no point during that time did anyone ask me if they could help me find anything or offer me any advice on products. After I had picked up my products, I walked over to the woman to pay. She did not acknowledge me at all, she rougly took my items and began to scan them. She told me the total and told me grab a pen and sign the receipt. I asked her if I could use my Aveda Advantage points here and she grabbed my card and swiped it. I have never had such a horrible customer service experience at Aveda. I was introduced to Aveda because I once wandered into a store and had a lovely young woman come over and tell me about Aveda shampoos. It was then that I became a fan of your store. However, my experience at this Aveda store was uncalled for and very unprofessional. I would suggest that you at least greet your customer, regardless of what time it is, with at least a slight smile to make them feel welcome. I will no longer be shopping at that Aveda salon again. I normally do not take the time to write letters such as these. However, I was so disappointed with the service I received, I believed it was necessary. Pros: Smells good, waterfall in the back is pretty Cons: Customer service is horrendous. more

Awful customer service!! 10/15/2007

I went to this salon because my hairdresser transfered there ( and almost immediatly transfered out!) but I bought 2 Aveda products from them - along with $150 of Kerstase products and a highlight and haircut. The 2 Aveda products did not work out so I brought them back to the store to exchange them. Well, the clerk told me that their return policy was that all products had to be returned within 2 weeks. I said that is fine but they should have told me that when the products were purchased. Additionally I didn't save my receipt as my prior salons maintained my records under my name (which I found out they did too but the manager was too lazy to look it up. ) So, I asked to speak with the manager who told me "what? You have never heard of keeping your receipts before ?" (very sarcastic) . As an individual who spends $300 on average every 2 months at my hair salon, I expeceted better service, so I asked for the corporate managers name and number. Instead she gave me a customer service # which equated to voice prompt hell. I finaly got a call back from a girl there named Jennifer who told me that she would "call a manager there and call me right back." Not surprisingly she never called back. Don't bother wasting your time and your money here. They have no concept of customer service. Pros: Kerastase products Cons: Bad customer service! more
