Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

Wonderful, peacefull ride thru the Nantahala gorge. Staff was very helpful in telling us to go directly to the cafe of choice when the stop was made for lunch, so we would not have to wait in line so long. Loved the views and the rocking of the train was relaxing. Not a theme park coaster ride so don't expect that. Sit back, relax and enjoy! more

We took a ride on this train for a nice day out and a view. I have to say it was kind of a stiff price to pay for a train ride with nothing to look at. We paid $50.00 a person to go in the airconditioned car which was $8.00 more than they charge to ride outside with no airconditioning. We saw one waterfall and one lake and lots of trees. It might be a much better ride when the foliage starts to change colors. All we saw were trees, trees and more trees. If you've ever been to the Carolinas all you will see is trees when driving down the road. My point is why pay $50.00 for it? My family and I were a bit disappointed. We expected to see more for the price that paid. It's great for something to do and if you have other people to talk to it makes the ride more enjoyable. Children get a bit antsy on here. Not really a ride for children as they get bored. If you do decide to take the train take your own food. I'm really glad we did. The food they has there was terrible. more
