Best hot dogs in the city! 4/13/2006

I have been eating dogs at Gray's Papaya since I was in JHS. This is was the place to go after an afternoon of shoe shopping on eight street. Two hot dogs with saurkraut and a splash of ketchup, and a papaya juice always hits the spot. Can't beat it for a .50 hot dog. more

Got the drunk munchies 3/30/2006

Someone already said it, but I'll say it again - Gray's Papaya is an NYC institution! The map says it's located at 2090 Broadway, on the uptown side of the city, but keep your eyes open for other Gray's Papaya locations throughout the city. Open late and a deal that's impossible to beat! After a night out drinking with your friends or just wandering around the city, Gray's Papaya is the place to go for cheap hot dogs and drinks, ready to go in seconds! But watch out for the imitators - I believe there's a Papaya Heaven out there, as well as a Papaya Dog. My advice is stick with Gray's. more

Yatzhee! 2/22/2006

Ok, this is the ONLY palce that I stand in line for anything. Yes, for $2.00 I will stand in line down the block in the middle of August for 2 hot dogs and a tropical drink from Gray's Papaya. I don't care what anyone says, it's worth it. And if you think I'm nuts, you have never had a gray's papaya. Oh, these are the hot dogs that in the movie "Fools Rush In" Selma Hayek had flown across the country for her husband. No joke. more

BEST NYC HOT DOGS 10/11/2005

Stop in Gray's Papaya for a quick service place that serves up American food an emphasis on hot dogs. Now, THIS is New York -- cheap dogs done right! You don't have to be in a hurry to love it. This is the best hot dog place in the world!! Please go if you ever have a chance. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Entrances and walkways are wheelchair friendly. The restaurant stays open late. Cash Only more

CHEAP, but OK 9/23/2005

The prices are amazing. Seriously. The hot dogs are pretty good, but I don't know where everyone gets off saying that the papaya juice is all that good. Maybe I just don't like papaya, but it tastes kinda like bad apple juice. But for about $2.50, I can't remember the exact price, you do get two hot dogs and a glass of their juice, which is inarguably a great deal. more

Hungry? In a hurry? On a budget 8/31/2005

Hungry? In a hurry? On a budget? You cant beat this deal, one of the better deals here in New York. Where else can you hand over a dollar for hot food and still get change back? Think about it! Its about 95cents per beef hot dog and all the fixins' are free! Sauerkraut, onions, and all the mustard and ketchup you will ever need. For about $2.75, gobble down two hot dogs and a papaya juice! It used to be called the recession special. Gray's seems to always be open. Ive been there for breakfast and at 3am for a midnight snack! Gray's forever!!!!! more

Bargain prices 8/5/2005

You can't get a cheaper lunch anywhere. Gray's Papaya has really inexpensive hot dogs, and they taste pretty good too. Don't go here if you are looking for a big selection , it is basically hot dogs. The drinks are average. This is a good place to go if you are on a limited budget and want a quick bite to eat. more

Hot dog heaven!!! 8/5/2005

Gray's Papaya is a NYC institution and a bargain when it comes to food - just don't spend too much time wondering how it is that a hot dog in Manhattan can be so cheap! The hot dogs here are the perfect blend of juicy inside and crispy outside. They have all the basic NY topics - which is, not much: ketchup, mustard, relish, onions and saurkraut. But that's all a hot dog needs. The drinks here are horrible - they claim to be healthy drinks, but... blech. Stick to the dogs. more

Editorial
  • Gray's Papaya might as well just call itself Gray's Papaya King. They both serve the same dogs, the same drinks (papaya, nonalcoholic pina colada), the've got similar seating plans (stand), the same intoxicating aroma wafts out of open doors, and the same signs boasting, "Our hot dogs are tastier than filet mignon." The bottom line is that Gray's Papaya grills a quality dog, served on a toasted bun with good, spicy mustard.
