Really chill staff and a venue with great sound 6/2/2009

I've probably seen 20+ shows at the Gothic. I like punk and hardcore music and the Gothic is a good venue for it with its open floor set-up. Like the Filmore, the Gothic is big on pit space and short on seating. I love the Gothic for that fact. However, if you want to get a seat, get in line early. The other big key are the bathrooms. The one bathroom on the first floor is just there to distract the newbs. There are full bathrooms up the stairs. The mens' room is up the right set of stairs as you enter the Gothic. The ladies' room is up the left set of stairs as you enter the venue. In the last couple of years, I've come to appreciate the Gothic's staff. They are good at distinguishing between jerks who are ruining the experience for everyone and people who are having a good time. The jerks get kicked. Folks who might do something dumb in the name of fun get warned before being asked to leave. Secondly, the Gothic staff have lent me duct tape (so I could get in the pit) and even a personal cell phone (when a friend left with my car keys). No, the Gothic staff isn't over the top friendly. Then again, this isn't freaking Chili's. The Gothic staff is much more like good lifeguards at a pool. Mostly all business - there to ensure that folks are safe but willing to overlook the occasional dunking. I appreciate them for it. Pros: Relatively intimate concert venue with nice staff Cons: Very few ""all ages"" shows - 18+ or 21+ show only more

great venue for shows. 3/4/2009

As a rebutal against all of the one star reviews let me just say this. First, unless your are going to see an overpriced show at fiddlers, red rocks or pepsi center wake up there just isn't going to be large seating areas. Second, there is hardly a concert that goes by without anyone sneaking in joints or long lines at the bar. Additionally, this venue is a great place to catch live acts that tour exclusively for the fans and a place where tickets are less than $30 dollars. Drinks here are not too expensive compare $7 dollar MGD at the mammoth to 5 dollar Guiness at the Gothic. Another upside is that lines are usually short in contrast to other reviews on this location. I have been to at least 20 shows here and at most wait in line ten minutes. Finally, unless you are seeking a high class venue with $10 martini's and want to listen to Cher the Gothic is an all around great local venue with a wide range of talent.\r \r P.S. Bands usually hang out afterward in the parking lot. Try getting this opportunity at the large venues. Pros: close to downtown Denve, great variety of shows, inexpensive Cons: small bathrooms more

Awful Venue 1/21/2009

As others have stated - no space, mostly standing room, so-so sound. Very hot. Huge line at both bars when near capacity is reached. Definitely not recommended to see a show in the warmer months. Not worth the money. more

Not Worth It At All! 3/11/2007

If you want a terrible night out, with poorly trained in house security staff.. who will let anyone go by practically.. With a POOR in house sound, NO FRIENDLY STAFF! No one knows whats going on when doing security there so expect to get a terrible environment. I seen a beer thrown across the room, someone smokingweed somehow got in the place, harassing customers and dont try contacting these people for any issues.. you wont get a straight answer. If the band you want to see comes around to a different venue go there! And except to stand the whole concert, and in a long slow line outside. Unless you can get a direct number to the owner and NOT a recording to the venue i dont think you should go to the Gothic Theatre, with poorly trained and harsh staff members. You wont get your complaint in correctly if any! Cons: Live Music, Venue Ambience, In House Security, Staff Memmbers, Terrible Bathrooms, Comfort, Sight Sound, Shows, Drinks, Seating, Parking, Service more

No seating? 5/4/2006

I've been to two concerts at this venue to date. The first allowed seating on the main level. I wasn't too happy when chairs were confiscated the second time, with the brusque suggestion that we adjourn to the bar (therefore, in the back) if we wanted to sit down. I ended up choosing to sit on the floor and then standing for over three hours as the concert progressed. This, along with the theatre's lack of heating (cold winter concerts) and small bathrooms (the men's has only one toilet) along with close proximity to smokers makes for an unpleasant experience. If you can, pick another venue. If you like roughing it, pick The Gothic. Pros: Small Cons: Small bathrooms, No seating main floor, Tinny sound more

This place stinks!! 8/11/2005

If you enjoy going to an event where unless you show up six hours before the event starts you'll have to stand the entire night then this is the place for you!! However if your like me and expect a seat or two for sixty dollars then steer clear. I've had more cushy surroundings listening to a band in someones garage than at the Gothic and the best part was that was for free!! Atmosphere is a joke and service is non exsistant!! Pay me twenty bucks and I'll let you come over to my place, stand in my basement and listen to my stereo real loud. The people who left misleading reviews of the place on here either got paid or need to get out more!! Cons: not enough seats, no seats, no seats more

Best Denver venue 9/3/2002

I can't say enough great things about the Gothic. Renovated only a few years ago, I used to drive by it every day when it was still in shambles. They did such a tremendous job fixing this place up - it's gorgeous outside and inside. The sound is fantastic, especially upstairs. The drinks are poured generously and the waitstaff is super friendly. There's always a good act in this place - be sure to catch Maraca 5-0 when they're there. Do yourself a favor and see a show here - you won't be let down. Pros: Gorgeous interior, Great drinks, Great sound Cons: Located in Englewood more

Best in Town! 8/15/2002

It was a close call between the smaller Fox Theatre and the Gothic, but this gets my vote as the best place to take in some music, even if it is clear across town for me. Pros: Great Sound System, Comfortable Atmospher more

Best in the West 8/8/2002

The Gothic Theatre has the best sound system around. It enhances a thoroughly enjoying concert experience. I also like the ""laidback"" atmosphere.Definetly gets a thumbs up. Only lacks one thing, not enough country concerts. Pros: Inexpensive, Close parking more
