Wow, I'm shocked to see bad reviews! We ate at the poolside cafe recently and it was by far the best meal I've EVER eaten. I won't claim to know if Ramsay has anything to do with this restaurant or the food served, but his name is indeed why we tried it. We had incredible pork belly sliders, pasta, steak and dessert. Everything was extraordinary. more

Gordon Ramsay the best TV chef in L.A. 11/13/2010

I've been to a few of the t.v. chefs places in L.A. The worst I have to say was Tom's place Kraft.. the food was served cold the gnocci was like eating glue and they only served ala carte.... I took my best friend to the london for his birthday and it was the best dinner I've ever had... the chefs menu at 60$ for 3 courses is an amazing deal. after we were seated we had menues within 1 minute the sommelier was knowlagable hw knew where the wines where from what they were best paired with and what wines fit our budget. With a 10 minute wait between courses the service wat amazing.... I cant say enough good things about this place... We already have our Thanksgiving reservations made... Gods bless Gordon more

I would NOT recommend 9/7/2010

go to hells kitchen to eat not here 8/22/2010

we were seated with much confusion in a half empty restaurant..it took almost an hour and fiteen minutes for the fisrt food to arrive..and it was burnt and sent back..we started talking to the couple next to us and they came at 7;30 and were still waiting for coffee ..slow, bland, snotty, too expensive, high priced average wines...we walked out without paying when the replacement appetizer never came...suddenly lots of appologies and the hidden maitre d came out..dont go here..gordon doesnt care he's a silent partner...they ruined my saturday night and when i told the maitre d there were lots of other unhappy customers that night he answered ""i know""..well bozo do something about it. more

Kitchen Nightmares at Gordon Ramsay 4/30/2010

Here's an idea for the next season of Kitchen Nightmares. Perhaps Gordon Ramsay can come in and fix his ex restaurant. To be fair, I never ate at Gordon Ramsay at The London while it was still under his ownership but I had heard very good things. Good enough for Michelin to give it one star. All I can say is the new management must be relieved Michelin isn't publishing a 2010 Los Angeles guide as I'd be surprised if they held on to that star. There were some positives. The space is stunning. Opulent and romantic and luxurious. All leather and gold and chandeliers and soft muted tones. The service is still top notch, befitting its Michelin status. And, of course, the company of good friends. But the food. The food was nothing short of disappointing. Starting with the pan roasted scallops with caper raisin pur?e, cauliflower pur?e and cauliflower beignets, the scallops were, frankly, tasteless. Okay, maybe not tasteless but lacking the sweetness and flavor you would expect of a top quality scallop. These were honestly no better than the frozen scallops you'll find at Trader Joes, which for frozen scallops are pretty good but, hey, I don't see TJs proudly displaying their Michelin plaque. The caper raisin pur?e, for me, was incongruous. The saltiness of the caper and the sweetness of the raisin just didn't harmonize and it didn't do much to elevate the scallop itself. The cauliflower ""beignets"" were really just small pieces of fried cauliflower. Not exactly what I think of as a beignet. The cauliflower pur?e was good, however. But really, I was there for the scallop, not the pur?e. I followed this with the pork chop with pomme pur?e and thyme sauce. The pork chop was disappointingly dry and tough. Not inedibly so - some of my dining companions enjoyed theirs - but I've had much better pork chops at far lesser establishments. The mashed potatoes were, however, quite good. Creamy and thick. But again, I was there for the protein, not the side. I finished with the blueberry cheesecake with dulche de leche sauce. The cheesecake was good. Simple, baked and unadorned except for a few stewed blueberries. But the bottom crust of the cheesecake was delicious. Sweet and just dense enough to feel substantial but still flaky. Probably the single best component of the whole meal. But when the pastry crust is the best part of a meal, that can't be a good thing. On the plus side, I do have to say that their wine list by the glass was very good, albeit expensive. I had an excellent Santa Barbara viognier and a very reasonable muscat with dessert. But, in total, the alcohol total for the table was more than the total for food. On our way home, one of my dining companions wanted to stop at In-N-Out. Perhaps if we'd done that to begin with, I'd have saved a couple of hundred dollars. As Gordon Ramsay himself would say, ""I've had enough! SHUT IT DOWN!"" more

Great little lunch find 2/5/2010

I had a very good lunch here that was not as expensive as I feared. Very good salads and nice carpaccio. Parking is bad, but what can you do? Must valet. Sophisticated vibe and bright and airy. Never a wait for a table. Pros: Good biz lunch spot Cons: Parking is bad more

Simply Spectacular! 4/15/2009

There is nothing more regrettable than paying good money for a bad meal especially in these financial times, but there was not a single regrettable moment in my experience Ramsay's restaurant last night, and honestly...I went in expecting one. The wait staff was outstanding from the moment I stepped in, to say nothing of the beautiful ambiance throughout this hotel. My friends and I selected the ""wine & dine"" option from the dinner menu which allows you select four items from several delectable options and includes a wine selection recommended by the sommelier. The portions initially seemed small but at the conclusion of the wine and dine we were all full and elated. Every single item was perfection, from the aromatic starter salad with divine truffles and parmesan shavings to the perfectly cooked sea bass with just a dollop of caviar. Do not even get me started on the caramelized banana dessert that just melted in my mouth. I came into Ramsay's a cynic, but my experience was proof positive that there are a few occasions in life when you can believe the hype. Pros: Food and Service Cons: If you're anti-valet...good luck parking. more

This Restaurant Should be on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares 2/23/2009

Being a fan of Gordon's successful television shows I was truly excited when friends invited me to his restaurant to celebrate my birthday. The hotel makeover is beautiful and the hotel staff were friendly, efficient and engaging. Arriving at the restaurant the hostesses were very sweet. Then we entered the bar and all goes down hill from there. The bar staff was present but aloof, they seemed bothered that they had to actually take drink orders (chardonnay at 19 a glass). We then ordered appetizers; the braised short rib croquette with sauce gribiche and the okonomiyaki dumplings, they seemed intriguing on the menu, then they arrived at the table...we asked the waiter what it was and he said it is what we ordered, we then asked what was in the sauce, he had to ask. Falls short of the standards of the television show. We took pictures of the food to have our friends later guess what it was, even looking at the menu it was hard to tell. The croquettes were overcooked and tasted like hushpuppies, and the dumplings lacking in flavor and high on cost. We ended up cancelling dinner since we could barely stomach what we had just had. Would never return and would never recommend. Pros: the hotel staff before entering the restaurant Cons: everything else more

  • This swanky all-suite hotel was transformed from its former incarnation as the BelAge hotel into a beacon for iconic Hollywood glamour and sophisticated London style. The towering ten-story property is located at the foot of the Hollywood Hills, offering 400 rooms (a standard room is about 720 square feet) just steps from the Sunset Strip. It's a chic magnet for the older crowd yet still a bit removed from the center of all the action and noise. The onsite restaurant originally helmed by "Hell's Kitchen" chef Gordon Ramsay (he's involved in name only) features an upscale European menu with Asian twists, while the gorgeous rooftop pool is where hotel guests can eat, drink and lounge in style.
