Goff's Charcoal Hamburgers

Great place to go if you like paying $15 for one double & one single cheeseburger, and quite average burgers at that. I knew I should have just turned around and left when I was given the total but since this place has been around so long I thought maybe I would at least be in for something exceptional. Not even close. I shan't be returning, to say the least. more

Hamburger was small, flavorless, and thoroughly overcooked with crunchy edges on the meat. Flavorless and spongy bun. Condiments were not fresh had a strong refrigerator taste. Onion rings were pretty good, but these are just a frozen product from a vendor and dumped in a deep fryer by Goffs. Overall, totally not worth $10. I'm amazed this place gets any good reviews. I guess if anyone is dying for a crappy burger, you go on Tuesdays for half-price burger day, that's about all they're worth. more

I didn't move to Dallas until the late seventies. About 1980 I ended up living around the corner from the old Goff's on Lovers Lane. I was just a hard-working girl who worked for a record chain. I always wondered back then why I was always treated so rudely when I went in there, and I decided that whatever it was, it wasn't my problem but the owner's problem, and it turns out I was right. I just went to the ""new"" location on Hillcrest for the first time, and as I was going to get my drink, I saw their historic photo on the wall of a sit-in from the '60s after they had been refused service to clientele with only slightly longish-hair. Police were standing with their hands folded, with the owner. At first I thought it was kind of a cool photo until I realized by the caption that the proprietors apparently still thought that was a great thing for them to do, persecute the brave group of people who reminded a country that we had rights under the Contstitution, just because they had long hair, as the caption explained. I was raised on burgers from this place and my mom went to school with Harvey, the founder. Therefore, I am more than a little biased. My most common order is a beefeater (2 patties) with hickory sauce (yes, on top of the sauce that is already on there) and cheese (I think it is shredded processed cheese). I add to this ""crisp"" fries and a Dr. Pepper. The ""crisp"" fries are not on the menu, but it just means they cook them a little longer and thus they are crisper than otherwise. They don't serve beer, but the rest is sooooo good, who cares. If you like burgers, this place deserves a visit. Goff's Hamburgers has always been a great place to go. They serve great hamburgers and serve them up quickly. However, there are two major problems with this restaurant: the service and the prices. Do you realize that the prices on their blackboard menu aren't the prices that you pay? They overcharge you and don't give you a proper receipt so it's very difficult to dispute your claim. I was yelled at by the cashier about how 18 dollars was the proper price for one burger, one order of fries and two milkshakes! I found the service to be so bad that I reported them to the bureau. I understand that many people think this is a great restaurant and it could be. If only you weren't paying almost twice what you should be. Honestly, I recommend Fuddrucker's, but everyone has a different preference. All and all - I would hate to see anyone else get cheated. I wanted to get a good hamburger- and i went to this place with high expectations. I ordered the works and got excited when the cook told me it came with 12 toppings. I paid $9 for a burger, fries and a coke. The burger was pretty small, the cheese was still cold from the feezer and overall it was a terrible burger for the price. My friend ordered a #2, onion rings and a drink for $7. The burger was basically just a small bun and a patty. It didn't come with any toppings, you probably have to pay extra for lettuce and tomato. It was much smaller than a quarter pounder at mcdonald's. Overall, the burgers were terrible, and I will never go back. Pros: Location Cons: Expensiver, Small burgers more

I was in the mood for a good burger and decided to go to Goff's. The burgers there are so tiny. I don't even know if grocery stores sell buns that small. So now I'm out about $10 and I am still hungry:( Cons: tiny burgers more

A t Goffs you can get a great burger. The ambiance is fun because of the local SMU croud. Its also fun to bring the family and show them the old dallas photos. Its a great urger and a great place to run into your neighbors. Pros: Good Burger, friendly service, good atmosphere more

I have eaten hamburgers all over the world (Munich-McDonald's is actually good, and you can get beer with your Big Mac), but the BEST commercially marketed hamburger in the world is ""The Works"" from Goff's on Mockingbird Lane in Dallas. In addition to the unbelievably superb flavor of the food, the ambience is provided by the owner, Mr. Goff, who harangues the patrons as they enter (I THINK that's all in fun).
