Run, Dont Walk To The Nearest Chain Restaurant 5/27/2007

Overpriced, small portions of improperly cooked food. Served in a poorly lit, stale , cavernous environment. Hard to believe the people who run the Canfield House are the proprietors of this disappointment. Pros: Umm.. The other diners were breathing? Cons: Numerous more

one of the worst experiences ever 2/20/2007

We arrived on a sat eve. in February. Restaurant was not crowded and we were seated immediately. Server was not friendly and seemed annoyed that we had an 8 yr old and a 10 yr old with us. My husband ordered a grilled salmon sandwich off the menu. It was supposed to be grilled with bacon, avacado, let, and tomato. My husband asked for side of mayo and raw onion and no bacon. My daughter ordered the child's pasta with light marinara. 1 hour-yes, 1 hour later the food came out. My husband got no avacado, no bacon, no onion, no mayo side and an ice cold sandwich. My 10 year old got buttered pasta with a side dish of marinara to toss her own pasta. The waitress never came back to the table to apologize for the delay or to see if our food was okay. We finally got the bus girl to ask the waitress for our check and she did and ""alright arm pull'. What a strange place. It was unfortunate that the waitress was so unattentive. We are business owners and being heavily involved in the restaurant industry, we are very good tippers and are pretty easy to please. This was a horrible dining experience with much too long a wait for medicore food and poor service. Being frequent travelers to Newport, we will be sure to steer clear of this spot and leave it home to ""where the locals go"". Pros: warm and inviting decor Cons: poor service, mediocre food more

Very nice place to eat 11/27/2005

We were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess. I thought the interior of the restaurant was beautiful; classy and warm. The bar is gorgeous! Anyway, all of our food was delicious, from the soup and salad all the way to dessert. My entree was prime rib. It was a generous portion with great sides. The sweet potato fries are excellent! Our waitress was funny and sociable and kept right on top of everything. We will definitely visit again! more

Just plain BAD 10/7/2002

Where do I start? ""Jumbo Shrimp stuffed with seafood"" was actually (and I'm NOT kidding) supermarket shrimp wrapped around balls of mushy bready unflavorful goo. Served at room temperature with a baked potato Wendy's wouldn't even serve. The bread basked was filled with SLICED (Yes, sliced) rye bread. The salad dressing was watered down. It is in a former car dealership- I think one of the salesmen must be the chef. Unfortunately Iwas with locals, who knew the owner- othrwise I would have stopped the madness as soon as I was served. This was not even good diner food. Stay away- stay far far away no matter what you hear. Pros: has tables & chair, has heat and lights, people work there Cons: BAD FOOD, TOO LOUD, CHEAP DECOR more
