Wonderful Food and Service at affordable prices 5/24/2008

We decided, for my mom's birthday this year, it wasn't going to be Chinese again (her favorite!), but Italian. She didn't want to come into the city, so we went up to Westchester, instead. I had heard from some foodie friends of mine that Gina Marie's was amazing, because the Chef (Caputo) had worked at Il Mulino (a premiere Italian restaurant in the village, and impossible to get reservations at), and I must say that it was totally reflected in his dishes. There were 5 of us, (one under the age of 12), and the bill came to $200 with tax, tip and soft drinks. The staff was very accommmodating, and gave us a table in a room by ourselves, my mother wears two hearing aids, and cannot be around a lot of noise. The front garden is very attractive, and we might have sat out there, but since we had a whole room for ourselves, who could resist? The fried calamari was a fine appetizer, crispy, and not overseasoned, red sauce on the side was v. good. Chef Caputo took good care of us, with a spectacular appetizer platter of bruschetta, slices of tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil, roasted red peppers, seafood salad with my favorite scungilli in it, and finely sliced and fried pieces of zucchini and eggplant. The complete dinner ($23.50) includes a wonderful soup that was creamed with sherry and barley and mushrooms, not to be missed, and also included fresh vegetable or pasta, Parmigiano, Marsala or Francese chicken, veal or shrimp, coffee, ice cream or cheesecake, a good deal. I had a blackened fish platter over sauteed spinach in garlic that was perfectly cooked, and tantalizing to the tastebuds. Everything comes with a small salad that is quite delightful, but I must talk about the dessert. I had pears poached in a red wine, surrounded by a egg/liquoresque foam, a beautiful combination to a beautiful end of a meal. Bathroom and restaurant are both accessible, and my mother claimed it was the best Italian meal she has ever had! Thanks Chef! Pros: incredible red sauce, very tasty, not sweet Cons: coffee, not so good. more

NO STARS -- DON'T GO TO GINA MARIE'S, THEY ARE OVERPRICED, ARROGANT, AND ONLY MEDIOCRE. 12/22/2007

I am SO happy to see that there are others who don't like Gina Marie's. I have had two very unpleasant dinners there, and subsequently, thanks to the internet and spreading the word in 'real life', am finding out that there are many others who don't like this arrogant, mediocre restaurant. Hopefully, the word will spread on their abysmal customer service, arrogance and only mediocre food. Of late, I've read that they have one of THE highest priced entrees -- $46. -- in Westchester. At any rate, my dislike of Gina Marie goes back a year or more. There are two rooms in which to be seated, and since we were not regulars, we were seated in the front room, a cramped, noisy space. The orders were given, and the appetizer arrived. The food was only okay. WHILE I was in the midst of my appetizer, the entree arrived. Now, the tables are small for two people, and the subsequent lack of space and eating of two courses at once left a bad taste in my mouth for this place. Another meal with another couple got us the 'back' room - the food was still mediocre. Next (and last) visit we were again two and again given the same cramped, noisy table. We had no choice as the place was filled. People DO like mediocre food, don't they? At any rate, this time I ASKED the waiter to ALLOW us to EAT our APPETIZER first BEFORE getting the entree. You guessed it. I had the salad fork to my mouth when the server brought out the entree. An argument ensued, during which the waiter asked my companion what to do. Since my companion is not bellicose, he said to leave the entree, which I did not eat. In the midst of all the this, during which time the server ignored my angry retorts, I told him that his abysmal service would be reflected in his tip. He shrugged. I then called over the manager. His reaction? You guessed it. He shrugged as well. I will take all opportunity to put forth negative reviews on Gina Marie's in Eastchester until they close, which will be soon I hope. Pros: no pros Cons: arrogance, overpriced, mediocre food. more

Do not go here! Gina Marie's has become a joke with my family. 10/4/2007

I had very high hopes for this restaurant and really wanted to like it simply for their outdoor patio and convenient location We went there last month or so. We had a 6pm reservations for outside, they tried 2x's to seat us inside. Then, while getting our table ready we went to the bar...they were out of almost everything and had "red or white wine" I finally just had to go with a vodka seltzer. Then we ordered our appetizers, (and the wine my dad tried to order by the bottle, also not available) we ordered 3 of the hot antipasti at about $17/ person. On the menu it said it was clams, crab, stuffed mushrooms, etc. Almost an hour later our apps came out with 2 stuffed clams, 2 stuffed mushrooms, IMITATION crab meat and the rest of the platter was peppers covered in sauce and cheese. I think they were trying to cover over the fact that the food was falsely advertised. When we complained that our $50 app was little more than some veggies in cheese with imitation crab-meat the manager was completely unapologetic and suggested we call the owner. Another hour later our food had not arrived. My Father finally asked for the bill for what we had eaten, then a few minutes later they tried serving our entrees. We had to refuse the meals and demand the check. We had been seated at 6pm, (6:30 really), it was now 8:30 and we ended up paying about $150 for some wine, fried calamari and their 'special hot antipasti". If the apps were any indication the dinner wasn't worth sticking around for anyway. Oh, they also had a veal "special" that evening that sounded good, luckily my mother asked the price of the special before ordering because it was a good $20 more than the highest veal entree on the menu. Now I realize specials are often a little bit more, but $56, when the highest veal entree is $36 seems quite excessive! Pros: Terrible food, Imitation crab meat in a $17 appetizer, out of all wines on list more

Could have been better 4/24/2007

Something happened here, we were just back in town after moving away for a few years, it was a favorite place.... Pros: Seated right away Cons: Quality of food has gone down more

Wonderful Italian 8/23/2005

My husband took me to Gina Marie's for my birthday once. What a great present! The service was excellent and the ambiance definitely romantic and cozy. My husband swears they have the best meat sauce he's ever eaten and the marsala...I wanted to dive into it, it was that good! My only complaint is that they moved! They are no longer in Fleetwood, but now, I believe, somewhere in Eastchester. I know why they moved...the Fleetwood location was too small (but cozy)! My husband and I plan to find them and get some more of the wonderful italian food! Pros: food, service Cons: parking, too small more

Best Italian Food, Crazy Portions! 1/11/2003

Never been a fan of Italian food, but Gina Marie's changed all of that! Went with a bunch of my picky Italian friends, and we ALL agree that Gina Marie is the best. The great food was not the only pleasant surprise, the portions were outragous. (no exaggeration!) Every one of us had to doggy bag a portion of our dinner, and we normally dont, but no one could resist! Pros: delicious food, immense portions, friendly staff Cons: not in NYC! more
