Mike and the guys at German Motors has helped me over the last 6 years with my VW Beetle -- only place I'll take her! The guys are genuine, friendly (in a real manner, not a fake, ""They're paying me to say this because it's considered good customer service"" kind of way) and very helpful in solving problems. His recommendations are reasonable and helpful, and they've helped solve a problem with creativity to arrive at a good solution at a reasoanble price. If anything ever wasn't right, I'd go back and ask them to revisit it and am confident they would. more

I wanted to add a quick comment about my experience with German Motors. I brought my Eurovan to them and requested that they diagnose the drivability problem it had (stumbles badly at road speed). After they performed some of the requested diagnostics Mike explained that the vehicle may have some fairly serious issues. Knowing that I was expecting a relatively inexpensive solution to this problem, he suggested that I consider my options before having them do any more work. He was also very fair about the labor amount that he charge me. more

My twin brother and I have owned nothing but Volkswagons since our first 1969 bug that we purchased in 1973. German Motors of Salem was recommended to us by a friend and multiple VW's later we have never gone anywhere else all these years. We dealt with Mike Leisten's father Rudy and his partner Fritz for many years until Mike purchased the business several years ago. German Motors has always done one fine job of "making our problems theirs" in regard to taking care of all of our needs, bumper to bumper! Mike has always been straight forward with diagnosing our problems even when we didn't like what we heard in regard to having to have more expensive repairs performed. In the 38 years that we have done business with them, German motors has always stood behind their work! We have had them rebuild several engines from Bug to Vanagon's, all done extremely well and with no problems. I took my first car, a 66 VW, to German Motors shortly after I got it for a fuel issue. The fuel issue cost about $50, so I decided to have a tune up done. During the tune-up Aaron or Mike found out that a gear oil leak had dripped on and ruined the brakes. After I got that fixed they called again to tell me the tune-up hadn't gone as nicely as they would have liked and that I needed a new carb. They wanted to charge me $260 for the carb alone not including $90/hr in labor. I went and picked up my car, along with it's over $800 total bill. If you liked to be pay for up-priced parts and over-priced labor then by all means German Motors is for you! more

If you are the victim of mechanical failure of your German automobile, prepare to pay for owning the ultimate driving machine or one of its cousins. However, Mike at German Motors can ease the pain a little with his integrity and his experience. Next to the dealer (and in some cases, better than) German Motors is the best solution to German engineering failure. more

I can't believe anyone could say anything bad about GERMAN MOTORS. I have been taking my VW's to Mike and the crew for 9 years. They are honest and fair and prompt. They treat you like you are their only client and Mike the Owner has a big heart. There was a time in my life I had no money, no job and a car that was supposedly fixed by another automotive place. Still after $500 the problem wasn't fixed and I took it to Mike at German Motors. Mike didn't know me and still he fixed my car. For a big discount AND he helped me to find a job. I came back months later and he wouldn't take any money. He is that way. He worked beside his Dad as a young boy and learned the trade. And he knows what hard work is. My cars run super! I never have to worry. They always make the time to help anyone. Mike probably doesnt want anyone to know how good he is. :) But he and his crew deserve a pat on the back. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I took the car in for service and and two days later it is driving worse than ever with the check engine light on. Quite the coincedence, don't you think? Very shadey operation....\r \r Cons: Only place in town that can service a transmition, and mess up the rest of your engine more

German Motors of Salem is an absolutely wonderful company. They provide wonderful service as a fair price (for imported cars). When I brought my car into them, they explained exactly what was wrong - in plain English! - and gave suggestions for fixing it to fit a variety of budgets! I will definitely take my car to them again! more
