Editorial review from Citysearch 11/22/2015

I will try and be brief and to the point since Michael the owner and Chris his well-trained assistant are so good at the gift of ?Gab?\r On October 8th I called German Motor works and explained to Chris my vehicle problem with suspension Michael the owner went on to boast how he was only one of two shops in the metroplex with a 175,000 computer diagnostics computer authorized by Mercedes Benz. I agreed to take my car to him\r I took my vehicle there on October 12th after 4 days of no word from them I called to enquire and Chris his assistant told me they had ?Diagnosed ? the vehicle needed a part that would cost me $ $1,180 to replace , I asked twice if he was sure that was it and they said yes I then agreed and they replaced it , They called me to tell me the car was ready I went to the shop and paid, got into the vehicle , started it and lo and behold the same problem was still there , they had reset the code in the hope it would at least get home before it indicated, and I would not notice but that?s not easy with Mercedes. \r I left the car there and again after a week I had no word from them and when I called twice and went there physically, I was told there was something else wrong. I was told I needed to replace a leaking strut for an additional $,1100 I asked why when he knew very well all my struts had a lifetime warranty which I?m sure he thought I did not know but wanted to bilk me for an additional $1100 while he gets the strut on warranty. I had the strut replaced but still no fix. So I?m sure that was a lie. Another week later he told me I actually needed a special part from Mercedes Benz that was taking too long, still no fix, Finally he told me that in fact I needed to replace two additional struts and that they were ordering them from the manufacturer on warranty, and they were on the way, a day later they called and said I?m the one who actually has to get them because the warranty is in my name.\r Bottom line I was fed up and on November 2nd I had the car towed away from these Incompetent persons. A week later my car is back on the road, Over and above this we found out that the car was missing parts that German Auto works removed and refused to return. They also refused to refund the false charge.\r They are seasoned liars and well versed at it. I would not trust them with an oil change. The number of cars in the lot should say enough. I wished I had read the reviews before I took it there. more

Best place to take your Mercedes Benz/BMW for repairs/service! Prices are reasonable and a clean/safe area to wait while your vehicle is being serviced. The staff is exceptionally nice and pleasant. Now that I have found German Motor Works, I wouldn't dare take my vehicle anywhere else. Forget about going to a dealership...this is the place to go! more

Best German Automobile Garage !!! 8/29/2011

I have been coming to German Motor Works for almost 11 years now. I have fixed both my older and newer BMWs as well as my wife's newer Mercedes Benz at German Motor Works. These guys are truly excellent, dedicated, honest and have always taken care of all our cars whether it was an engine rebuild, transmission rebuild, brake work, normal maintenance and heavy duty tuneups/inspections. Joe is absolutely a fantastic owner and always puts the customers concerns as number one priority which is why he has had so many long time and loyal customers. Tony and Mike are absolutely great also and have always taken care of the most complicated jobs on my cars and in a very timely fashion. In the almost 10 years I have brought my cars to German Motor Works, they have always invariably correctly diagnosed the problems and would always give me a very accurate estimate beforehand. I have saved a huge amount of money, time and effort by bringing my cars to German Motor Works instead of to any other shop or dealership. more

Worth the Drive 8/19/2011

I recently purchased a Z3 Roadster from an private seller. This was my first endeavor with a BMW vehicle. Within a week, I heard an awful squeaking noise coming from the rear shocks / suspension. After hours of internet research, I feared the worst. I took it Joe at German Motor Work. He inspected the suspension and found nothing wrong. He said I could replace the bushings, but it would be an unnecessary expense at this time. He put a special silicon grease on all of my bushings and eliminate the noise. He also said that if it started squeaking again to just bring it in. All of this was done at no cost to me (although I did agree to some other work that was needed / due). I found his prices to be very fair. I would definately recommend them to any potential customer. more

Danger, danger, danger! 6/16/2011

Unfortunately, with too long an experience with this business, I have to be very honest. Joe, the owner is an absolute pathological liar. Two times I brought the car in for an oil change and two times I left with the air conditioning broken. Naive as I am, I paid them to fix the air condition then they said the water pump and radiator where leaking. Then after another oil change the air conditioning didn't work again and Joe said it was because the car was over heating and system shut down. I was shocked at such a stupid answer. When I called them on it they reconnected a wire and the air condition has been fine ever since. The car wasn't over heating at all. To this day the overflow tank is full and I haven't needed to add water. My daughter bought a car they recovered on a lean and Joe swore up and down the car was perfect with no issues. After buying the car we put another $3,000 into repairs to make it work. Before selling the car they put in new breaks but not new rotters which cause wear. They break as they fix. No doubt about it. These guys are subtle in the criminal activity they perpetrate but it's there for sure. more

Best place to have your BMW or Mercedes serviced! 3/25/2011

I have been using German Motor Works for over a year now and that?s the only place I have my BMW serviced. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. They not only tell you what needs to be replaced or repaired on your car, but why it needs servicing. One day I was in a hurry and needed tires asap. The shop was very busy at the time so Joe sent me directly to the person whom he was buying the tires from so I wouldn?t have to wait longer at his shop for the tires to be transferred over. He?s certainly more interested in repeat customers than making a little extra money at the customer?s inconvenience. Another time I had gotten bad gas and didn?t know it. Joe had me bring the car in a couple of different times as the engine started cutting in and out. He couldn?t find anything wrong with it either time. He looked at the car and ran diagnostics and still nothing. He said he didn?t want to start replacing parts until he could identify precisely what the problem was. We eventually arrived at the conclusion it was bad gas. He poured an engine additive into the car and I could immediately tell the difference. I never experienced engine problems after the additive. Joe could have wasted my money replacing parts before identifying the root cause, but instead he stuck with it until the root cause was identified and then he easily rectified it. I?ve also had oil changes and brake work performed at German Motor Works. I also like their Saturday hours too so I don?t have to miss work to have my car serviced. I?m pleased with the level of service I get and I recommend their service to anyone with a BMW or Mercedes! more

Keep your Mercedes Benzes away from here! 3/14/2011

Nice people only goes so far... when hired to put in motor mounts and rear suspension accumulators on my 1996 S500 Benz, they did such a horrible job it cost my several hundred to have the work redone at another shop! They ruined one accumulator, wedged the motor mounts in improperly, and bent part of the lower shield mount so they could try to fit in another motor mount - something previous shops never had to do. Then to top it off, they did NOT replace my $50 lower motor cover and kept all the parts! It sounds like they knw what they are doing with BMWs but Mercedes Benz owners avoid this place at all costs! more

Be Leery... 3/3/2011

Be leery of this shop. After my girlfriend's car had work done at German Motor Works, I had to take the car to the dealership for an unrelated problem. Found out the previous repair German Motor Works did was done incorrectly and with cheap parts. I don't recommend this shop. more

German Motor Works is simply the best 2/6/2011

I have been going to German Motor Works for almost 9 years now and they are truly exceptionally good and honest and trustworthy, not to mention their very reasonable pricing. I have done a lot of major work including transmission and engine rebuilds on my 7 series BMW with them and they are truly excellent. Special thanks to the owner Joe and all the guys who work over there who have taken care of my car for so many years. I used to take my car to the dealership until 2002 but my car would never be properly fixed over there ( not to mention the ridiculous labor rates over there) and once I found out about German Motor Works, I have never looked back. Thanks so much to German Motor Works. more

Excellent Diagnosis and Repair on my ML320 4/5/2010

I am glad I ran into review s of German Auto works here on citysearch. The experience I had getting my ML320 serviced here was EXCELLENT from every aspect. Pros: Very Professional mechanics, True Value repair Cons: None more

Labor is crazy- either they cheat or are SLOW 2/25/2009

I recently sold a very nice mercedes 190E to a friend. Six months later he lost a radiator hose and ended up blowing the head gasket. We called them because they were close to our house. The estimate that they gave was $350 parts (which is fair) $500 for machine work (which is crazy, the highest estimate for machine work was 95.00) The real crazy part was they wanted $3500 for labor. At their 87.50 labor rate that means it would take them forty hours to complete. I lost all confidence then. The MB dealership did the work for 1850.00. It was dropped off on tuesday and picked-up on friday. I have been turning wrenchs on german cars my whole life. That is at most an eight hour job. more

German Motor Works gives excellent service! ask for a price match in prices! 2/23/2009

I recently needed some work done on my 97 328is. Seeing how this shop was closest to my house, I decided to give it a shot, at $87.50 per hour they would fix it which the closest BMW dealer normaly charges anywere from $100 ph to $120ph. The service was fast, friendly, and communication was always part of their priority. I've done recent simple work on my car, and beeing a novice home mechanic I was impressed by their work. One thing I recommend to everyone reading this review, is to pricematch all parts before you agree to replace the parts with the shop, that way you save money, always ask what parts are going to be replaced, and look for cheaper prices, for the reason that many shops such as this will boost up the price to even $150 extra than what you would normaly pay for an "original factory part" or even an oftermarket. Pros: Mechanics were very knoledgable Cons: Prices for parts are to high, make sure you price match, don't be fooled. more

This is the place 2/17/2009

This Shop is Very Very good at what they do. I've only taken my MB there 2x, under warrantiy and they had no problem working with the warranity company. Pros: Very good , Smart staff Cons: Not sure if they give you a pick-up/drop-off ride back to your home/work? more
