I love this salon! From the time I walked in til the time I left I was completely satisfied. I came in for highlights and a cut and I loved it! It was my first time here and I saw Christen, she gave me exactly what I wanted! I have been telling everyone to go here! The prices were very reasonable and the salon was a great environment, everyone made me feel welcome! more

I've been familiar with George of New York for over 8 years and highly recommend it. The salon itself is in a good location, easy to find. It's cozy and relaxed, and the prices are pretty typical for the Columbia/Ellicott City area. For the past year Jill has been doing my hair and it has never looked better or healthier. I've trusted her with the task of bringing my once long, damaged, and dead hair back to life and she has exceeded my expectations; I really couldn't be happier. I have been to Georges three times now. All of my experiences were HORRIBLE. The first visit was over a year ago. I went in for a single process color to get rid of my highlights. The stylist dyed my hair so dark it turned out black. I'm naturally light brown. It was awful and I looked goth. I could have dyed my hair better with a store bought box of dye. Under the influence of a friend I returned recently for a visit being assured by her I just got unlucky and had a bad stylist. This time I made an appointment with a reputable Sr. Stylist. The stylist talked me out of what I really wanted (which I'm now kicking myself for) and gave me high-maintenace super blonde highlights. The coloring was horrible and turned out to be three different shades of brown on the crown, middle, and ends of my hair. The highlights were also brassy and not placed well. I went back for a re-do which they did quite cooperatively (I've never gone back anywhere before) making IT WORSE!!!! This time the foils created a brighter blond and left painted streaks (horrible brush strokes an extremely different shade of light blonde on my hair) . When I went home and tried to part my hair in a slightly different spot I couldn't hide it . It is very noticeable and looks AWFUL! I can't put my hair up or back or part it anywhere but a certain place or it looks rediculous. I refuse to go back AFTER a redo. I'm going to take my business elsewhere from now on AND I'm going to be stuck paying for someone else to redo the stylists horrible mess. I really should call the manager, but they most likely would just have another bad stylist redo it...That is once my hair recovers from all the damage. Not to mention the rates are rediculous. They charge extra for conditioner (when you get a color treatment which is rediculous....it's not even a deep treatment) and charge you for a blow-dry. Just seems like a sorry excuse for the customer to not see what a horrible job they did before you left the salon. Pros: The shampoo girls did a good job Cons: horrible colorists!!!!!!! more
