My sister and her husband bought a $13,000 dollar camper from this place. Her husband died very suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack 3 weeks later. The camper had never been used. They told her there was nothing they could do except offer her $5500 to take it back. She complained on their facebook page and someone commented ""You should be angry at God, not us."" Then they deleted the comment and blocked her from the page. This has been a very difficult time for her and her family and these people showed no empathy or compassion of any kind and actually seemed more annoyed than anything. Shame on this business and anyone who works for them. more

Wow I cannot believe that people do 6/2/2012

Wow I cannot believe that people do business this way! We were told they needed a credit card number to even negotiate a price. After reading many negative reviews we decided that we did not feel comfortable making such a large purchase from a company with very questionable integrity. We called to let them know that we were not going thru with the purchase (keep in mind that we had not signed any contracts and the financing was not completed) they proceeded to charge TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS on our credit card two days AFTER we told them we would not be purchasing the motor home. Upon calling them to discuss this matter they refused to reverse the charge so now we are having to go thru American Express to get the charge reversed. They are CROOKS! Whatever you do DO NOT give them your credit card number!! more

Do NOT give General RV a deposit! Avoid buying from them. 4/9/2012

On 4/2/12 we were strong armed into leaving a deposit (What you are thinking of buying today, someone thought about buying yesterday.) According to the Sales Manager Dave- a credit card refund would be refunded same day if we changed our minds. Lo and behold it has been FIVE days since we requested our money back and - yup you guessed- no refund as of yet. We called on 4/5 to ask for a refund- Dave took our credit card info and hung up without even saying good bye (GREAT professionalism shown.) I called on the 7th because it had not yet been processed and was informed by Anna the finance person that she did not see any paperwork re:refund, but assured me she would run it through that day. Today is the 9th and I cannot get anyone to accept my calls. I am not concerned too much because I know my credit card company will handle it, but it really sealed my opinion that the people I dealt with at Brownstown are not competent. Some of the reasons we opted out of buying were: no one could agree exactly what tongue weight of camper was- per website 324, per Dave-600 but we HAD to have a $450 weight distribution hitch (for 800 pounds), or we could not haul it home. We were concerned, because although employees there kept vomiting the words ""we are experts"" no-one could justify where numbers weer pulled from, or help us determine our trucks tongue weight- we spent HOURS researching the info and while searching we discovered that TOO large of a hitch could bend the camper trailer. Our sales person- Craig Blizzard- who admittedly is new also told my hubby that he went in on his day off- to personally give the go ahead to prep for us, yet my hubby spoke with Dave at 12:30 to give go ahead, Dave tried to tell me it was HIM who initiated the prep go ahead. Simple little discrepancies that do make one wonder ""what else are they lying to me about??"" By the way, if you do not heed my warning and steer clear of Brownstown General RV, at least let me give you a tip from this ""noobie trailer pulling girl.."" If you have a newer truck, the tongue weight and maximum towing capacity will be printed RIGHT ON the hitch of your truck, do NOT let General RV make you waste hours out of your day trying to locate the information, that they- the experts- apparently have no desire to share with you. My question to them was ""ok, so you say I need 800 pound distribution hitch, you wont hook camper to it if it is not there, how do you know I am not lying about it?"" THEN I was told ""it is printed on your hitch"" UGHHHH I swear they called and asked us the max tongue weight and did NOT give us that tip then.. STEER CLEAR!!! please I would not have even given them one star, but this review is making me... they are not worthy of my dog peeing on their lot, let alone one star! more

Didn't want this RV that badly. 10/24/2010

Recently purchased a used toy hauler trailer from the Brownstown General Rv. Everything was fine until we sat down in the finance office. We were directed to this location from another General RV location to see this specific trailer. We are out-of-state purchasers. You would think that a company that advertises on the internet would have this process down to an art. The business manager screwed the paperwork up so badly that I had to point out a several thousand dollar error in my favor .. that was my first mistake. I should have kept my mouth shut. The deal went down hill from there. In the end, I had to come up with a larger downpayment and she hid a chunk of the difference in the sales taxes paid (I know ... I should have had my accountant and my own calculator with me). So I go to get the trailer titled here and am informed that I owe another $500 in sales taxes. This was a nightmare and I would strongly suggest that if you are purchasing an rv from General RV in Brownstown, go in with your own financing because this lady is clueless and the deal became about her tring to keep her job, not about fairness or honesty in lending. My next call is to the bank. I am not a satisfied customer. more

FRIENDLY STAFF AND NEW VEHICLES 5/26/2010

I read the negative review for the rentals for general rv and was a bit skeptical and decided to look around to see what my other options were. After viewing other companies vehicles we realized we were better off taking our chances with general rv since they offered new vehicles and the other places had older motorhomes. We are happy to say our experience was wonderful. We had a brand new vehicle and it even had the plastic still on the bed. Much better than what we seen everywhere else. The staff was very helpful and were willing to sit through my husbands hundreds of questions. we were new to the whole rv thing they took a lot of time to go over how to operate everything. I felt we were there for a long time but I guess it was my husband that kept asking questions. I am sure the second time around will be much faster. Pros: New rental vehicles Cons: long demo more

GENERAL RV SELLS RVs THAT ARE UNSAFE FOR THE ROAD 3/9/2010

BOUGHT A USED RV AND HAVE NOT EVEN PUT 3,000 MILES ON IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO... DROVE IT TO FLORIDA FOR VACATION WITH MY WIFE, OUR 10MONTH OLD, MY FRIEND , HIS WIFE, AND THIER 2 KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 5 ... WE GET THERE FINE .. PROBLEM IS WE WERE ALL TRAVELING TO DISNEY AND ALL THE SUDDEN THERE WAS NO BRAKE PRESSUE... CALLED GENERAL THEY SUGGESTED A REPAIR SHOP IN FLORIDA, WE TOOK IT THERE THE REPAIR SHOP TELLS US THAT THE CALIPERS, BRAKE LINES, ROTORS, AND PADS ALL ARE IN HORRIBLE AND UNSAFE CONDITION.. WE THEN CALLED GENERAL RV BACK AND THEY TOLD US "" THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD AS IS AND THEY DO NOT DO ANY KIND OF SAFETY INSPECTIONS ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM"" I FIND THIS VERY DISTURBING AS 1. ALMOST ALL IF NOT ALL DEALERSHIPS PERFORM BRAKE INSPECTIONS AS IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE 2. THEY DO NOT CARE IF THEY SELL YOU AN UNSAFE CAR THAT COULD POSSIBLY KILL YOU AND OR YOUR FAMILY AS IF I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DOWNSHIFT TO SLOW DOWN THE RV WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEND ... I WARN ANYONE NOT TO BUY FROM THEM AS THEY ARE OK WITH THE FACT THAT THEY MIGHT BE SELLING YOU UNSAFE JUNK AND ALSO BECAUSE THEY HAD NO CONCERN AND THEY WERE UNWILLING TO HELP OR FIX THIS ISSUE AS WE WERE STUCK IN FLORIDA Pros: IF YOU CALL NOT HAVING BRAKES ON A VEHICLE A PRO THEN Cons: THEY DO NOT PERFORM SAFETY INSPECTIONS ON BRAKE SYSTEMS more

DO NOT RENT FROM THE BROWNSTOWN LOCATION! 12/5/2008

I would highly advise not working with General RV in Brownstown, Mi for RV rentals. I recently rented an RV for a weekend with a group and returned it, leaving it locked in their parking lot overnight. During the trip, we did have damage to the bathroom door as a small hole was placed in it when it was opened and met the heel of someone lying on the back bed. We accepted responsiblity for this and I left a letter on the front seat explaining this. more
