Geek Thieves 8/5/2011

Today i drove to the Best Buys in Roseville Ca, and spoke to a employee at the Geek Squad in regards to a resume i had stored on an old floppy disc. I retired a few years ago when floppy's where still used and unfortunately my new computer has no floppy drive, so i thought to take it to the Geek Squad as they are close to where i live. I arrived and showed the employee the floppy and a memory stick and asked if he could open the document and transfer it to the memory stick i handed him. He asked me to wait a moment and when he returned he said he could do it but it would cost me $29.00 dollars. No that's not a misprint. I took my items back from him and drove to Kinko's who do not claim to be computer guys, but within about 5 minutes after entering the store i had my resume transferred to my memory stick. I tried to give them some money but the guy said glad to help, come see us when you need something. With businesses all over Roseville closing their doors i thought customer service would be a priority with anyone trying to survive in this economy, that's obviously not the case with these thieves at Best Buy/Geek Squad. more

Geek Squad Alternative 8/5/2010

At one point or another we all need computer repair help and I am no different. I found myself in need at the worst possible moment. In the middle night, when everything is closed and the night before a report is due. I called Geek Squad online support for help and was charged for the $199 virus removal service. They connected to my pc and attempted to remove the problem. After a couple of hours and a whole lot of coffee and nail biting they call me back and say there is nothing they can do. This time, the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent and seemed to be calling from overseas. And long with this and the fact they said the virus is too embedded to be removed without causing further damage and system instability. I get off the disappointing phone call and am still sweating because this report is 35% of my overall grade in this course and I absolutely had to have this done in the morning. I run a quick Google search for a solution when I find SecureRemoteSupport[dot]com who provides online services and have a “No Fix No Pay” guarantee. Wow that would be nice if Geek Squad offered the same promise. Within an hour they had diagnosed the virus and had removed it completely for $105. And best of all, I didn’t lose any of my work and my operating system was completely repaired. Apparently the Geek Squad isn’t as good at their job as secureremotesupport[dot]com is. I really appreciate their diligence on fixing my issue and suggest others think twice before contacting Geek Squad to fix their computer. more

Geek Squad 2 Expensive 3/15/2010

About a week ago I noticed my internet was acting really slow. I rebooted my computer, I power cycled my modem and cleared out all my junk folders. And it still was acting like I was on dial up internet. I called my ISP and that didn't fix the problem but the support tech asked me about if my wireless was secured. I had no idea what he was talking about and asked how do I tell? He then recommended I locate a networking/repair business. I then got on my phone and looked up some business'. I ended up calling Geek Squad or Nerd troop or whatever it is. I was told it would $129 just to come out and look at it and it would be a week before they could send someone out. I looked around some more for someone who could do it sooner when I came across a consumer review of secureremotesupport[dot]com. I read that they were fast knowledgeable and didn't need to come to my house. Needless to say I called and asked some questions. The technician seemed very empathetic to my situation and said he could fix it in a couple of hours. And sure enough in under 2 hours it was fixed. I just sat back and watched him control and repair my computer from his location. The whole thign was really painless and it cost less than the other guy's "appearance fee". more
