Geek Squad Alternative 8/5/2010

At one point or another we all need computer repair help and I am no different. I found myself in need at the worst possible moment. In the middle night, when everything is closed and the night before a report is due. I called Geek Squad online support for help and was charged for the $199 virus removal service. They connected to my pc and attempted to remove the problem. After a couple of hours and a whole lot of coffee and nail biting they call me back and say there is nothing they can do. This time, the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent and seemed to be calling from overseas. And long with this and the fact they said the virus is too embedded to be removed without causing further damage and system instability. I get off the disappointing phone call and am still sweating because this report is 35% of my overall grade in this course and I absolutely had to have this done in the morning. I run a quick Google search for a solution when I find SecureRemoteSupport[dot]com who provides online services and have a ?No Fix No Pay? guarantee. Wow that would be nice if Geek Squad offered the same promise. Within an hour they had diagnosed the virus and had removed it completely for $105. And best of all, I didn?t lose any of my work and my operating system was completely repaired. Apparently the Geek Squad isn?t as good at their job as secureremotesupport[dot]com is. I really appreciate their diligence on fixing my issue and suggest others think twice before contacting Geek Squad to fix their computer. more

too good to be true! 5/19/2010

My name is Catherine Herbert and I don't know much about computers. At some point in the last month I believe my computer became infected with a virus. It was making my internet run very slow and I was unable to email my grandson away in Iraq. This being my only way to communicate with him I became very distressed. I wasn't confident enough to be able to attempt to fix it myself. Besides I hear hammers and computers don't go well together. :) more

Save your money! 3/30/2010

Last night my computer just stopped working. I usually leave it on and connected to the internet and have never seemed to have any problems. Today I took it to the closest repair company to me, Geek Squad and had them figure out what is wrong. I paid a $75.00 diagnosis and left it, feeling like it was in good hands. I got a call about 5 hours later and from someone from Geek Squad telling me that my power supply had gone bad. I asked what it would cost to replace and he gave me a price of $99 for the power supply and another $50 for installation. I told him that I?d have to call him back in a few minutes after I spoke to the other bread winner in the house. I took that opportunity to call around and price out what other business? charged for the same procedure. One place I called, Secure Remote Support, quoted me $39 for the part and another $25 for the labor. That?s a savings of almost $100. I called Geek Squad back and asked if they price matched and was told that they did not. So I am picking up the computer later today and having Secure Remote Support take care of it tomorrow. It really does pay to shop around. Secureremotesupport-dot-com saved my day. more

This Review is FALSE and written by Secure Remote Support 3/24/2010

What you are about to read is false and was written by a company called secure remote support to promote their business by ""piggybacking"" Geeks Squads Reviews. God damn Geek Squad sucks. My mom had one of their so called computer guys come out to speed up our pc and install a new printer. They charged her 99 bucks for the ""optimization"" and another 50 to plug in two cords. I can imagine the speeding up service took some time but setting up a printer is like 2 seconds of plugging one usb cord from the pc to the printer and another from the printer to the wall. Not to mention they didn't even install the software that came with the printer. She ended up calling someone else to help her setup the printer stuff because she didn't want to pay another 50 dollars. While she was having this other business install the software they that she didn't have antivirus and suggested that might help her keep pc running better longer and to keep it secure. The geek squad tech didn't either bother to mention it or didn't notice. Mom was offered a discount on the work and antivirus she was having done by the other company to make up for her previous bad experience. This tech was pleasant and understanding. He also gave my mom his cell number to call him directly if she had any more problems. That is exactly what business should be like. Thanks secure remote support. more
