Gaylord India Restaurant

I have to start off saying I LOVE Indian food, and have been to many Indian restaurants around the country and in London and Sydney. So I was very excited to introduce my boyfriend to the cuisine last night. I read some good reviews about Gaylord online and have been to the Gaylord in San Francisco about 3 years ago, so I figured it was a safe bet. The service and atmosphere were fine, not exceptional, but good; but the food was very mediocre. We had the chicken curry and vegetarian combination plates so we could taste an array of items. The rice tasted like it came from a rice cooker and did not have that great texture, flavor, and oil that most Indian rice has....it also had peas on top and smelled like they added a touch of cinnamon to it (which would be fine but it looked and tasted cheap and didn't have the same complexity I'm used to). The curry, saag, and masala were fine if they came off a cheap buffet, but they didn't have that creamy sauce with all the delicate flavors you'd expect. Honestly I've had much better Indian food from hole in the walls at $8 a plate than this hoity-toity $20+ a plate place. I moved to Las Vegas a couple of months ago and me and my husband decided to go to Gaylord for their Saturday lunch buffet. It was probably the worst Indian buffet (and priciest) I have had to date. There were NO starters. In fact, there were 3 chutneys on display but NOTHING to dip the chutneys in! There was a mass of lettuce that passed for a salad. For a vegetarian the buffet had a grand total of 3 items...none of which were particularly above average or special (Channa Masala, Matter Paneer and a Cauliflower and Potato Sabji) considering the prices charged were above average. The service staff had no idea what was going on and the manager wasn't around. In order to salvage our lunch, we decided to order Samosas from the menu....unfortunately, NONE of the menu items were available. I am really amazed how they stay open. There were literally 5 people in the restaurant during a Sat lunch! A much better option is Tamba (www.tambalounge) which has a pretty good lunch buffet. There are more items, starters and it is well-priced. Plus, it's actually ON the strip. Origin India is a nice restaurant with good food...it would be a great date place since it's dark and romantic. It is pricier than Tamba but definitely cheaper and much better than Gaylord. Don't waste your time at Gaylord. I'm never going to again. Pros: Parking maybe? Cons: Food, Service, Price, Menu more

It's strange how Gaylord in Beverly Hills is easily one of the best Indian restaurants in the LA area, yet Gaylord in Vegas and San Francisco are easily among the worst in their respective cities. The Beverly Hills staff should be sent out to the other locations to preach things like service and quality to these locations that are truly clueless. more

The food took more than 30 mins to get served. The bread was not cooked properly. Service is very poor. Food is very costly. I ordered 4 parathas to go and they only gave me 2 and charged for 4. I noticed that when opened the box at my hotel, so couldn't even complaint. Pros: Thumbs down more

We went here during the christmas holiday week and the restuarant was virtually empty. We were one of maybe 4 tables. After the appetizers were served we waited over an hour for the entrees. After nicely asking a manager how long the food was going to be, He responded with "We're very busy" and then quickyl walked away. We didn't once get a refill on water or offered another drink. One of our guests had ordered the salmon, but they brought her the Sea Bass. She mentioned this right away and the food runner said "We're out of salmon." The waiter then came over and said "I forgot to tell you, we ran out of salmon." I would have assumed he would have mentioned that during the ordering process. Suffice to say, they didn't offer an alternative and she went hungry for the evening. The food was not authentic. The vindaloo was Overly salted, the soup was bland, and the salad was nothing to write home about. I would not be masochitic enough to ever return here with so many other wonderful choices in Las Vegas. Even the Buffet at the RIO would have been better than this place!! more

I like the food okay, it's very overpriced and the waitstaff doesn't seem very efficient. It's NOT kid friendly, and when I dined with my wife I needed a reservation. The bartender however made the visit almost worth it. He was knowledgeable and very helpful for those who aren't in the know. I have visited the Gaylord twice, the second time not by choice but necessity. The food is over-rated and in a Indian/British style and definitely over priced. The service is poor with too many managers hovvering round doing very little, appearing aloof to the waiters and diners. Why anyone would choose this restaurant is anyones guess when the excellent Rio World Buffet is located in the same building! Pros: different Cons: over priced, average food more

I am from San Francisco and have had the worst service and the worst indian food at this restaurant in SF. That was 3 years ago when we waited for 2 hours with no appetizers...Well, we decided to give it a try in Las Vegas again...Had to be the most bland Indian food I have ever had...As an Indian, I would have to say this was food prepared by non-Indians for non-Indians! And the service was once again so aweful that I felt like walking out again like we did three years ago! Avoid this overpriced Indian restaurant at any cost! We like Gaylord which has a great rating. The food was good and the service was INCREDIBLE. Our waitress even gain us free dessert to celebrate my pregnancy. However, the prices are WAY higher than they should be. We moved to Vegas from Atlanta where there is a high Indian population and know that we can easily get food of the same quality for 1/2 the price at other places. The restaurant is quite lovely and after dinner you can walk down and catch the free show and parade in the casino. Worth a try - just a bit overpriced. VERY good. I have been a fan of Gaylord's restaurants in San Francisco for more than 20 years. YES, the prices are higher at the Rio LV location but the food is still impeccable...I have been dissappointed at EVERY other Indian restaurants in LV that I have been to and I have been to 7 of them, twice each. I always look at the menu in a new restaurant before I sit down to be sure that it fits my expectaions for that day, but I'd much rather pay more for GREAT food than a little for so-so fare. Food was very overpriced, i payed like 150 dollars for dinner for 3, man i mean its good decor but thats the only good thing that i can say about this place. Talking about the service they have waiters who cant even pronounce their own restaurants food names, there were about 6 waiters and all they were doing was walking around. While we were sitting there a couple walked in and waited to place their order for like 20mins at the end they just got up and left....I only suggest this place if you have a lot of money to waste and people to impress who really dont care about the food.....
