Formerly a Good Place to Eat 9/7/2009

We took some house guests to Piazza Gavi for breakfast on Sunday. Although we don't go there for dinner any longer since the prices have gone up so much, it was convenient and breakfasts have usually been good. After getting our beverages and menus, we sat for 15-20 minutes while our waiter obliviously walked by us. We finally asked a bus person to send him over, at which point he apologized and made up some excuses about being tied-up outside (not true). Before we received our food, I noticed that a couple at a table next to us, who had arrived shortly after we did, was finishing their breakfast. When ours did arrive, one of our party was given an omelet with the wrong ingredients. It was taken away and replaced some time later with the correct one. Unfortunately it was burned and the party could only eat part of it. We mentioned it to our waiter but no adjustment was made. This will be our last visit to Gavi for a while. Pros: Large portions Cons: Quality & Service not what they used to be more

yummy calamari 8/2/2008

We were staying in Tucson for a few days and decided to try this place based on the reviews. I have to say the calamari was fabulous! Probably among the best I have ever tasted in my life. The duck, unfortunately, was dry and tough. The chicken rustico was good too. Not to tough with great flavor. If you get around to this place I would definitely suggest ordering the calamari. Perhaps we should have gone with one of the pastas for dinner more

My wife and I went to Gavis the other day and the food was great so we decided to go again today with our kids. My wife went to use the bathroom and found out she had to go through the kitchen where they were making the food to get there. she saw a lasagna sitting on a small table right outside the bathroom and the floor was greasy and was just a gross mess. (let just say Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with that kitchen) even though the food was very good we are really not to keen on going there again. more

Delicious, ample serving and nice wines for a strip-mall eatery 4/17/2007

You will remember Gavi's for its ample, delicious portions and generous pours. Simply put, its a tasty value for lunch and dinner. What you will notice when you enter is that it is none to fancy and a tad cramped - which can be converted to intimate in the evenings. Should you go there? Yes. Should you bring the kids? No. Will the food awe you? For Tucson, yes. It's a simple Italian experience of eat, drink and enjoy. Pros: V. Good Food and Large Portions, nice pours. Cons: Tight and none-to-fancy - very casual wait staff more

Best Eggplant Parmagiana in town. Great ambience and customer service 11/20/2006

So many choices to choose from. Great family atmosphere or romantic atmosphere, whatever you're looking for. The eggplant parmagiana far exceeds any at any of the other Italian restaurants in Tucson. Great value for the meals that you get. Veal Pamagiana is outstanding. Great selection of wines and mixed drinks. Waiters make you feel like you're the only customer that they have to wait on. Five stars for each of the Gavi Restaurants...I've been to them all and get the same great food and service in all of them. Pros: Excellent dining experience each time I go. Love the food Cons: Very busy so make reservations more

My Wife Has Never Been There But Loves It 1/16/2006

I recently had dinner there and brought home leftoevers of Tortellini a Pana and she thought it was the best she ever had, including a month in Italy. I just ordered some for lunch so she can have it for dinner when she arrives tonight from Phoenix. It is just that good. I ate there one other time is was okay; but the Tortellini was fantastic. I highly recommend it. Pros: Delicious, Generous Portion Cons: Atmosphere more

Fantastic Italian 12/22/2004

This is the best Italian restaurant in Tucson. Although there are other Gavi's in town, the original one on Broadway is significantly better than the newer locations. The staff are superb, the wine pours are generous and my husband and I rarely eat out anywhere else. Pros: service, quality of food, quantity of food more

A gem! 12/6/2004

Just what I prefer - small and not a chain; emphasis on the food, not the decor or snootiness; good wine and knowledgeable staff. Pros: wine list, specials more

Great Italain but no longer cheap 6/6/2004

Gavi's is small and crowded. They have raised their prices and now are fairly expensive. Their signature resturant serves several of the same items their regular resturants serve but at times uses different recipes. In a town that has so very few good Italian food options it is one of the best if not the best as far as food, but it is becoming an expensive choice. Pros: Food Cons: , price more

Fabulous again & again 5/3/2004

Gavi's is one of the most loved places in Tucson because it's the best, most authentic food in town. I have been there multiple times, just for dinner, or celebrating with a large group, and we've never been disappointed. The cuisine is authentic, and ambiance is delightful. It reminds me of the small trattoria's in Italy. The staff is friendly, but never over the top. Pros: Inexpensive, Authentic, Friendly Cons: , None, None more

Not Good 7/1/2002

I live in the neighborhood and ate here twice after it first opened. I was horribly disappointed both times. My friend's veal parmesan was still partially frozen. The sauce was like out of a can. It was already getting great revues when I went there;so I will never go back even thought it continues to have great business and to be highly rated. Not to mention that the room is small and cramped and the service not that great. more
