Dont Go For Custom Build Computer at Fry's Renton 10/22/2011

I gave all my packed components to Fry's to build custom server, i purchased my components from tigerdirect and asked fry's to build a custom server for me, reason i asked them to build it for me was i thought if i screw up and short circuit my mother board then i would not figure out why it happened and i may not be able to return it to tigerDirect. Issues started at the start, i gave all brand new components (motherboard, cpu, ram...worth 800$) to them and ask them can they give me token or something with info about components i am handing it off to them? they said they DONT...so i was like WOW so Fry's take 800$ worth components and dont acknowledge that they have all these components but they would just say u have asked to do custom build thats it no other detail so i could not get wrap my head around it 2) I asked them when you can give me the complete product , answer was THEY CANT TELL so i specifically asked 1, 2 , 3, 4, 5 days? how many days its gonna take, when should comeback, they said they CANT TELL, they will call me when its ready but dont ask when? which i thought was bizarre... 3) I got a call after a day saying my mother board is bad, so i was like why? what is wrong with it? they said ITS the MOTHERBOARD, its BAD, they don't know WHY its BAD??? 4) They told me give us new motherboard OR take your components back, i asked them you should not charge full amount for custom build as you have not built the full product, store manager's answer was HE CAN CHARGE ME ADDITIONAL 10 $ FOR DIAGNOSIS IF I ASK them to reduce the labor charge to which i said i didnt ask or told u to do diagnosis then how can he charge extra 10$, he had only one thing we would have to charge u 60 bucks SO OVERALL THEY DIDNT WANT ME TO SAY WHEN THEY CAN DELIVER MY COMPUTER, THEY SCREWED UP OR FOUND OUT THAT MY MOTHERBOARD IS BAD AND ON TOP OFF THAT WANTED TO CHARGE ME ADDITIONAL AMOUNT FOR THE THING THAT WHICH I HAVE NOT ASKED OR PERMITTED THEM TO DO...ALL IN ALL IT WAS A RIP OFF... Hope this helps folks, i have been a customer for last 8-9 years not anymore, wish i read other rip offs from Fry's earlier... -Thanks more

Beware! 9/2/2011

They sold me computer memory that they said was new but it was opened and returned. They tried to sell me it as Brand New, but I said this security strip is already opened; they said they tested it, so what! It's just wrong to sell an item that can go bad with just an electrical charge on it as NEW, especially when they charge 15% to return opened items! BEWARE! more

Revenge of the Nerds! 10/3/2009

Frys is orderly, massive, and features an in-house faux-sit down restaurant. It is fun to go there and look at all of the things which they sell; and if you are looking for some electronic item in particular, chances are you won't be disappointed.\r \r The DVD selection is sizable, and features many titles which probably can't be purchased at any other area retailer.\r \r The one odd thing I have noticed, however, is Fry's unique customer service approach. Generally, employees don't speak to customers or make eye contact unless they are chased or cornered. Actually, this does not offend me, because I usually prefer not to be disturbed or monitored by salespeople hungry for a sale. Nevertheless, I understand how the Fry's approach to customer service might be percieved negatively by some.\r \r As a counter-point to the above paragraph, Per Capita, Fry's employees seem to have a solid knowledge of the products which they sell, unlike the folks who you would discover at Best Buy or Wal-Mart. If you ask one a question, you will probably find the answer satisfactory. Overall, Fry's remains one of my favorite venues in the region. Pros: Absolutely Massive Selection, In-Store Diner Cons: Unique Customer Service Approach more

Great store, great inventory, incredibly horrible customer service 12/31/2008

Wow, what a store. It's huge. They have an amazing amount of inventory at reasonable prices. Yet, the service is absolutely horrible. \r I have been looking for plasma tvs. I recently went to the store for a second time to look around. The first time I went there, the customer service was horrible. The last time I went there, which was one week later, the service was even worse. Let me explain:\r I walked around looking for help. There were three young women and two men at the desk by the tv department. Four of the five people looked at me and said nothing. We're talking minutes here people. The three women continued to ignore me and talk about their personal life and sort of look busy at the same time. The one guy who was working hard and taking care of another customer was the only one to acknowledge me. \r Finally, to my relief, I noticed one older gentleman I had dealt with the previous visit. I was hoping he would come to my rescue. Instead, he was talking on the phone and sounded adgitated. After another minute, it was obvious he was speaking to his estranged wife (or partner?). At one point, while no one was still waiting on me he loudly and publicly told her ""You'll have our son on New Years night and you'll be kissing him."" Pause. He then yells, ""Bulls##t, you know you will!"" \r I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. Who is managing this place? In fact, I think the person on the phone in the argument with his ex was the manager. Note to Fryes: Times are tough! Train your staff! Your customer service is atroucious and offfensive. If your inventory and prices were not amazing, your business would be down the tubes.\r I have told several friends about this store's customer service. Buyers beware. If you can find the same item at another store for a reasonable price, avoid this store. If not, be prepared to get terrible service while you shop a huge store with great inventory. Is it worth it? Pros: Huge store, reasonable prices Cons: Horrible customer service more

Don't go there for auto installations!! 5/18/2007

Whatever you, don't ever go to Fry's to get your electronic equipment installed in your car. They don't know what they're doing. Frys installed an alarm system in my car and they took more than 12 hours when they told me it would take 4. Not only that, they forgot to install the alarms for my 2 back doors. They also made some interior damages to my new car. So careless. My alarm is always messing up and I had to go back four times because they couldn't get it right the first 3 times. It doesn't take much to become an auto installer; all you have to do is take a stupid written test and pass to get a license. The store has very poor customer service, and the reps don't even know their own products. Go somewhere else, I would pay a little more and not suffer the headaches I had with these people. Pros: Lots of computer products Cons: poor customer service, very unreliable staff more

Your Electronics Superstore! 11/21/2006

If you love electronics like I do, you'll LOVE Fry's. Fry's is like a Costco, but it's filled with all electronics (plus CD's, DVD's, and software and such)! There is so much real estate dedicated to each area. You can buy individual components and wiring and cases and power supplies and... to build your dream computer setup from scratch! You can purchase heaps of laptops, PDA's, digital cameras, LCD TV's, Plasma TV's, rice cookers, washers & dryers, car audio equipment, and most any other electronics items that come to mind! There are some really great sales here if you keep an eye out, but unfortunately, they have seemed to run into rain check situations a lot (perhaps they get you there with the amazing prices and then try to wow you with the pretty good prices on everything else). It's the kind of place an electronics junkie could spend the day in. Pros: Lots of selection for just about everything, from poor quality to top-of-the-line Cons: Lots of junk sitting along side good stuff, buyer beware more
