Editorial review from Citysearch 6/15/2013

This isn't a good place. i frequented it for a while but finally came to my senses and quit. It's not worth the money. In my experience, the salon declined over the past year. The haircut is only so-so -- there are better options in this city at the same price (or if you're lucky, for less). Plus they don't treat you well (this too got worse over time), sometimes with courtesy and enthusiasm reminiscent of a DMV worker. \r \r And then there's the late policy. I missed an appointment awhile back without canceling in time and was charged full price. I recognized the business reasons for the policy and was okay with being charged, though the 80 bucks stung. But here's what finally caused me to quit and get a better haircut elsewhere for the same price. On my way to the salon, I told them over the phone that I would be 10-15 minutes late. They responded that the lateness would cut into the 30 minutes allotted to my haircut, and I said OK. But when I arrived, exactly 12 minutes late, they told me -- confrontationally -- that my stylist had left! ""She had places to be."" And they charged me for the full $80 despite our understanding over the phone just minutes earlier while I rushed to the salon. Why cut somebody's hair when you can fetch the same price by robbing them? more

A great haircut and terric staff 2/7/2012

I have got a lot of hair and it takes a pro to make it cooperate. Sara knows how to give a great haircut that is stylish but conversative enough for business. more

Erica Is In A Class By Herself 1/13/2012

I discovered the joys of a really good haircut many, many years ago. I've been to the best salons in San Francisco, Washington DC, NYC, London & Boston. For the past 10 (? maybe more!) years, I've only gone to Erica. She is the very best. You may think that a haircut is a generic service. You might even think that within the high-end niche of luxe salons offering refined masculine atmosphere and pampering perks the hair cutting skills are more less fungible. You would be wrong. Erica is in a class by herself. Plus, she's a really nice, smart, interesting person. The whole experience is like a mini-vacation, AND you emerge with a haircut that will consistently garner spontaneous compliments from the ladies in your life. more

An ok haircut overall, but expensive and not customized 2/9/2011

Since my excellent hairstylist returned home to Tokyo last year, I have encountered a countless number of incomptetent hair cutting charlatans in Manhattan. So a while back I decided to try Erica. Well... She knows how to cut men's hair, how to spot the overall shape and the peculiarities of hair growth patterns -- no question about that. However, when I made a specific request on some trimming that I wanted her to do with shearing scissors, it was clear that she couldn't do that; it was obvious that she had no clue about that particular technique (which was hilarious since the salon positions itself almost as a semi-exclusive enclave for stars and celebrities... )Instead, she cleverly changed the topic and proceeded to lecture me on how to properly dry my hair after taking a shower. Erica, being all about business, alloted only 27 minutes of her precious time to me (by comparison, my Tokyo stylist cut my hair for 45 minutes). The haircut was not bad, but lasted only a week or so and one side turned out to be longer than the other. For $80 or so that I paid, it was not worth it. So, if you can afford to shell $80 every week, you will look good. Otherwise, look for somebody else. more

Great atmosphere, Great people, Awesome Job, I will go back! 3/3/2010

If your a guy that wants a great job done with your hair this is the ONLY place to go. I would say your getting more than your moneys worth here. I was more of a walk-in type of guy, not any more. I'll be calling in for a reservation soon. After Erica looked at me and talked about my hair it was off to the sink for a great wash and scalp massages. Then Erica took off with the scissors. I was very happy with the result and look forward to my next visit. This Is a Great place for a DYNAMITE hair style/cut, sure as sh--! Not your local barber shop! So, So, much better!!! You will be hooked! Go ahead and call they don't bite and you will be happy that you did! Keep up the Great work. What a concept for a New York City establishment to actually be nice to customers. I am so happy I found you. A++++ Men's Salon. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Pros: Great Fast, Warm and Friendly Service with a smile! Cons: They are so super nice. Wish I could give 10 STARS here. more

best ""under the radar"" salon in ny 11/15/2009

for celebrities or people who want private, truly personal service this is the place. Like your own very tiny club. Great haircut, great manicure. No big scene. Pros: janney lyons' exceptional cut Cons: definitely need a res more

Just a place to kick back and remain in style 11/12/2009

Erica knows how to style men's hair, bar-none. Her vision of the salon is appealing because it is a refuge in a frenetic-paced city where gentlemen can kick-back, get pampered, and hang out. The attenion to customers' needs is apparent the moment you walk in, and the friendly vibe makes you want to stay. After the results (and some chatter and drinks) and see how great you look, you are ready to make your next appointment and, will no doubt, become a ""regular."" Pros: Customer-focused attention and great atmosphere more

Warm comfortable atmoshere and a superb salon experience 11/4/2009

I've been following Erica for quite awhile and followed her to her new salon. The warm and inviting color palate makes you feel at home the moment you walk through the door. Then you're greeted with friendly staff and offered a drink, what's not to like? It's been my experience that Erica likes to keep herself current in what's going on in the industry to keep her clientele looking fresh. Pros: Great commuication, easy going staff and a damn good haircut Cons: Only wish it was closer to where I live... more

Get Involved 5/15/2009

after getting my hair cut at the same place for the past decade, i moved into the city and was recommended to erica fleischman's. i was a bit nervous, but i couldn't have been happier. i won't even return to my original barber. the actual space is slick and all the girls that work there are extremely cool and really know their sh-t when it comes to cutting hair. you are a fool if you are letting anyone else touch your head. get involved. Pros: the HAIRCUT, atmosphere more

A Cut Above... 5/15/2009

I'm a simple man. When I get a hair cut, I usually go to a barber. But my experience at Erica Fleischman's salon, on recommendation, was great. Not only are the hair cuts top notch, but all the extra's make it more than worth while. Nothing like sitting back with a cold one in a big leather chair, talking sh-- with the staff and customers, while getting an excellent cut and manicure. You feel at home, unlike some of these factory-style salons, and these ladies do care that you look your best. more

Best Experience In The City 5/14/2009

Erica Fleischman is a truly unique experience enhanced primarily by the wonderful ladies that work at this fine establishment. From the hot towel wrap to the big leather chairs in which your hair will be delicately and carefully attended to with the care and perfection of a world renoun sculptor, your time at this salon will be relaxing and refreshing. The service is superb and the environment is ideal. I will not get my hair cut at any other establishment, and I look forward to my time here time and time again. Pros: Conveniently located in Midtown more

LOOK NO FURTHER... 5/13/2009

I just happened to walk by this place - and now that I've been, I'll never go anywhere else. Pros: Excellent cuts, great vibe - pretty much everything more

Great mens haircut, very chill atmosphere 5/13/2009

I was a John Allen's customer and decided to try something new before renewing my annual membership. Erica Fleischman's turned out to be a great alternative! The experience is much more personal & much less rushed. All the luxuries from John Allans were still available - cold beer, hot towel, manicure ,etc however it felt much less like a factory and much more like a great mens haircut experience. I would recommend this place to anybody - especially the John Allan's customers looking for a new place to go. Janney gives great haircuts - if she is available you should try her out Pros: Excellent haircut, friendly people, convienient location more
