Since my excellent hairstylist returned home to Tokyo last year, I have encountered a countless number of incomptetent hair cutting charlatans in Manhattan. So a while back I decided to try Erica. Well... She knows how to cut men's hair, how to spot the overall shape and the peculiarities of hair growth patterns -- no question about that. However, when I made a specific request on some trimming that I wanted her to do with shearing scissors, it was clear that she couldn't do that; it was obvious that she had no clue about that particular technique (which was hilarious since the salon positions itself almost as a semi-exclusive enclave for stars and celebrities... )Instead, she cleverly changed the topic and proceeded to lecture me on how to properly dry my hair after taking a shower. Erica, being all about business, alloted only 27 minutes of her precious time to me (by comparison, my Tokyo stylist cut my hair for 45 minutes). The haircut was not bad, but lasted only a week or so and one side turned out to be longer than the other. For $80 or so that I paid, it was not worth it. So, if you can afford to shell $80 every week, you will look good. Otherwise, look for somebody else.
