Old World Classic 1/15/2011

The Flame opened up a year after I was born. Growing up I remember every baby shower or bridal shower in the family was there. It was the place to go. It was the place you went for that special dinner. Where you went on that first date to impress your gal or just those times when you wanted a good steak. Men put on suits, and women dressed to the nines. Those days may be gone, along with the suits and the furs, but The Flame hasn’t changed, it’s a classic. It’s like taking a step back in time, the steaks are great the service world class. \r The only difference is you leave with money still in your pocket. You don't have to choose, and pay, for your side dishes, they come with the meal. You can dress casual, or if you want get dressed up either way your still going to be treated to the same service and great food.\r If you weren't lucky enough to have grown up in a time when the menu wasn't all ""al a carte"", and the drinks didn't cost you almost as much as your meal, you may think twice about going back to the ""new' age steak house they have today, where you are essentially being ripped off. If you like a good meal, great atmosphere, break out and try something ""new"" and go to The Flame you won't be disappointed. Unless of course you don't mind throwing your money away.\r I hadn't been there in years, when some friends mentioned about going there, and was I happy they did. I now make sure to tell others, and take them, just to see the looks on their faces when they take that first bite. I recently mentioned it to some friends, and they were somewhat apprehensive thinking it might be a bit ""stuffy"" and old fashion. I reminded them that old fashion doesn’t mean without style, and as far as stuffy I told them the only ""stuffed"" they were going to feel was after eating a great meal.\r \r “Mangiare”\r more

The Great Steakhouse in the Suburbs 8/1/2010

this steakhouse opened in 1958 and I likely had my first lunch here in 1961. My most recent meal was about 3 years ago (I have not lived in the area for over 35 years). The good news is that it has not changed in that 35 year period. From the dark wood interior with the (fake) stained glass windows to the long serving , professional wait staff the Flame continues its tradition as a first class steak house.\r \r Over the years that I have dined there I have never had a bad meal but I woulde suggest you stick to the steak side of the menu and, always, get the garlic dressing on your salad. Pros: Old School Steak House with great food and service Cons: Odd location and outside appearance may throw you off more

Best Steak House in the suburbs 8/25/2006

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I have been going here for the past year and just about once a week some times more. Never have I had a bad experience with food or wait staff. The dinning room is relaxing, elegant yet casual. The people who dine here are so friendly and the wait staff makes a point to ask your name and remember it, which always makes you feel welcome. My husband and I have tried every thing from the pasta to fish to steak it is all wonderful! If you like hamburgers OH MY THE BEST!!!!! Thick tender and the juice will run down your hand YUM. They have a house dressing which is very good and my husbands favorite and also the old fashion carriers with a variety of dressing at your table. \r \r There is live music every day except Sunday and Tuesday is open mike night which can be fun too. The bar area is large, has a light fare menue or you can ask for the full menu, with 2 TV's and is a great place to see a game.\r \r This is also a great place for lunch and the lunch menu is very affordable. Soups are great and there is always a nice variety of specialty salads. (Try the crab salad my husband had it last week and we could not believe how large the pieces of crab were in it.\r \r Must try: For romance you have to get the chateaubriand for two it is wonderfully presented on a large platter surounded with vegtables just incredible. Of course the hamburger, twice baked potato, freanch opnion soup, chicken scaloppine, chopped steak, filet, salmon, brie and fruit plate ok I could list the full menu here so I better stop.\r \r This place has it all!!! Great food, great staff and great entertainment. If your in the burbs it is a must eat at kind of place!!! Pros: Friendly staff, great food, Live music more

Classic... 10/13/2002

This is a genuinely great and classic place. The original was in Lincoln Park, and was the Gibson's of it's time. A happening place where celebs could be seen. The countryside location (just as old) keeps the quality and charm of the original. The food is incredible. You will never have a bad meal here. Everything's fresh and well-prepared. It is not as popular now, mostly regulars, seniors, and people that remember the original, however it still does great buisness and is a historic name in Chicago dining. I would take the Flame over Gibson's/Morton's ANY day. Pros: Excellent food, Great live piano, classic feel Cons: slow service (mainly, because of the lack, of food-runners) more
