Horrible food and service. I made my 3/31/2012

Horrible food and service. I made my family waffles when we got home, that is how bad the food was; No one ate it. The restaurant looks impressive, but as we approached the door I noticed hardly anyone in it. It was 7:00 on a Friday night. I even said to my family I question the freshness of the food because the place was almost empty including the bar. The restaurant seemed very hip with the exception of the silk flowers at the table that looked like something you would find in a retirement facility's dining hall. We asked for a booth because we saw one open, but the rude waitress said we could sit in a semi booth and push the tables together. There were only five of us including a child. She commented on how are seating was awkward for her to give us our menus...? The food was DISGUSTING. The mac and cheese was like flavorless garlic white sauce, so awful my daughter refused to eat it. The butternut squash gnocchi was burned and did not taste fresh, again with no seasoning. The service was horrible, one of the waitresses had an attitude when we asked for hot sauce (we had to find something to cover up the taste) she said ""I'll see what I can find"" The prices were expensive based on the quality and taste of the food. Save your money and go to BJ Willy's a few blocks away. The place is always busy and the food is fresh. more

Horrible food and the owner needs to go back on his meds! 7/24/2011

This Sunday my family and three friends went to dinner at 503 (Typhoon was closed). We all ordered and then waited and waited (there were 4 other tables filled). We finally had our appetizers--boring clams and soggy fries with some funky balsamic glaze). NO water refills, no drinks (soft drinks) and no bread. Another 20 minutes go by and soup arrives but the waitress served it with her finger in the soup! We asked to have another bowl of soup. Another 10 minutes go by and the CUP of soup arrives--it is cold and there is no spoon. We wait. Finally I go up to the open kitchen counter and ask for a spoon and a hot bowl of soup (nicely--and I mean that). The owner comes rushing out yelling at us and kicks us out of the restaurant!!!! Seriously there was no alcohol involved at my table. Unbelievable that an owner would kick a table of 50 year olds out of his restaurant just because we wanted a spoon! I didn't even argue with him--I was too afraid he would go ballistic. This guy needs help. So, if you want really great food and service go 10 minutes north on 43 and try some of the great places in Lake Oswego. Five Spice is awesome, The Terrace Kitchen, Tuccis, and Clarks are all outstanding. For the same price go someplace with great food, wonderful service, and you won't have to fear for your life. more

Surprise in West Linn 12/19/2010

Happened on this restaurant with a friends recommendation. It was my wife's birthday, and I usually stick to restaurants that I know well. But, decided to venture out to this one. From the time we arrived staff was very attentive without being obnoxious. \r \r For starters, we ordered their butter lettuce salad and the mushroom ragout. Both were very good with the salad being artfully blended with hazelnuts. The only down side if it really was one a little more dressing than I prefer. The mushroom ragout was superb. It was carefully wrapped in a phylo dough pastry and a creamy decadent sauce. we were also treated to a sample of the mac & cheese which as long as your not worried about calories was awesome as well. The main course consisted of veal meatballs over spatzel and was done very well. I personally had the paella, which was perfect. the rice was tender and firm , the fish not overcooked. There was a definite hint of smoke and spice which I found lacking in some restaurnts in Spain I had recently visited. For dessert we shared a piece of pumpkin cheesecake. This was very good as well, with a dense cheese and pumpkin filling on a crust of housemade gingersnap crust\r \r Our over all experince throughout the meal was one of great pleasure. We will be returning again, and I strongly recommend it as a place to try\r \r more

503, nice neighborhood spot! 6/30/2010

I had originally posted this REVIEW on another website (y.e.l.p). My review of this nice local West Linn establishment was removed and I felt the owners of 503 should know they did a great job early June, 2010.\r The other site removes all reviews they aren't paid for, essentially. \r \r ***503:\r \r It isn't every day I am surprised, but 503 did just that!\r \r We started with the calamari, which was crisp on the outside and tender inside, served with a lime, cilantro sauce and it was incredibly tasty and the sauce was light and refreshing. Great balance. Each table received an hors d'œuvre of pate' on toast points with mustard and pickle, this was incredible! One of the best pate's I have ever sampled (and I dabble in pate often)! Obviously, made on site with pride.\r \r For our mains, we had the pork shoulder (boneless) served with rice and wilted spinach greens. Savory, perfectly seasoned, we would re-order this upon a return visit. We also had the kobe beef chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and foie gras gravy. Rich and flavorful, this did not disappoint. Steak was a bit tough, but it was an actual steak that was breaded and fried, with amazing flavors, it disappeared with help of my dining companion! \r \r The service was on the tragic side, initially. We waited 10 minutes for a drink and even longer to order, but they were uncharacteristically busy per our server. Our entress came out slow, but it was well worth any additional wait. Part way through, we were given another server and she corrected any misgivings we had. \r \r All and all, a wonderful meal in the burbs. The food is comparable to any NE/SE or downtown/Pearl restaurant chef could produce! I'd like to add, the portions were moderate to large and prices were very affordable for the super delish food! It seems they made some corrections to the prior issues mentioned in previous reviews regarding price and food quality. \r Pros: Quality food, service and chef's ability to make accommodati Cons: Slightly over priced. more

Changed 6/16/2010

We used to go here quite a lot. Good food, nice atmosphere and reasonably priced. Recently they changed chefs and it has gone down hill ever sense. The food has become greasy and lacks flavor. Sure they have all the bells and whistles of a great menu but that is about it. I think the menu would have tasted better than our meal. Another one bites the dust in West Linn which is a shame this one had such great promise. BRING back the old chef before you have to close your doors! Pros: Drinks, staff Cons: flavor .. wheres the flavor? more

Very disappointed 5/5/2010

Our dinner was extremely disappointing especially for the price. We started with risotto and fried oysters. The risotto was swimming in grease and under cooked. The oysters were over cooked and the bowl of oysters and fries dripping in grease. We then had scallops and trout. The trout was covered with 1/3 cup of MAYO dumped on top, underneath that was a layer of potatoes and then hidden in the mess it was still covered in partially cooked skin. The scallops were under cooked and didn't have much flavor. \r \r In the end we ended up ordering the dessert to go since we wanted to leave but I had a craving for chocolate. When I got home I took a bite of the ""12 layer chocolate cake"" and had NO FLAVOR. I got more flavor from a one of those weight watchers low calorie high perservative chocolate cake bars. I ended up throwing it away and driving out for a scoop of ice cream. \r \r The menu is up on all the latest trends; truffle oil, fancy cheeses, ect. But truffles won't make a pigs ear a silk purse. Pros: Trendy menu Cons: Bad greasy food - Expensive - Out in the stix more

Fabulous Restaurant 1/20/2009

This restaurant is as stylish and the food is as good if not better than any place in the Pearl or downtown. The food is wonderful and the wine list is also stellar. The service is professional as well. I only hope that the people in W.Linn and Lake Oswego realize what a gem they have here and will frequent this establishment. There has never been a restaurant as good in the burbs as this restaurant is. more
