Very Fishy Business ... 2/2/2009

This is the WORST PET/FISH "store" I have ever seen! ALL of the tanks are unbelievably dirty..green and black algae in every tank throughout the store. The nitrate levels must be through the roof! The poor fish look in very bad shape..feel sorry for them and the turtles! You could barely see them in the tanks for all the filth!! I left there yesterday with my mouth hanging open in disbelief of the horrible conditions in this store. (They also have a dog and some birds in there. Don't think that they were "for sale"...) I would really be ashamed to have anyone come in my store and see this, let alone even think about selling anyone these fish! These fish look like they are on their last leg....and the price tags were not "cheap". This is really sad. Maybe if they specialized in one area, like fish, instead of having a combined music store they would have time to take care of their tanks! I would not even consider purchasing any food or aquarium supplies there as they were in very limited supply and looked "dusty". . Who know how long they have been sitting on the shelf, right along side all the music CD's and guitars! As for the clerk, she was not very friendly, or offered any help.. The only good thing I can say is that they are in a great location on James Island! more

Horrible Customer Service-Dirty Fish/Aquatic Tanks 8/17/2008

My mom has purchased 10 fish from this place for my daugther and all but 3 have died! My mom went in there to talk to them and got no where. I decided to go in there today to see what they would do for me (seeing how we just flushed 1 fish before we left the house). No one offered to help us when we walked into the store. As my daughter and I were walking through the store (which by the way is also shared with Purple Music), I noticed that all of the tanks were absolutely filthy! The water was brown and there was algae every where in the tanks-I could hardly see the fish. No wonder the fish keep dying...they were probably already sick when we got them. As we walked over to the turtles, I noticed that there was a dead turtle in the little pond! Dead animals left in a tank or other area with live animals is not only nasty but disease and germs will spread. As we were walking out of the store, someone finally asked if we needed any help. When I explained the situation to the lady, she said that it is normal for fish to die in a tank around 5 weeks because of nitrate levels and there was nothing she could do for me except test my water. She was not willing to replace the fish....and these are some pretty expensive goldfish! I told her that I have never had such a problem with any other fish and I had just the cheap goldfish from Wal-Mart. Again, she said there was nothing they could or would do for me other than test the water. I asked her if there was another fish store on James Island; she said no but there is one is West Ashley. I told her thank you and I would be visiting another fish store soon. I will NEVER buy another fish from this place again! Not only are the tanks dirty, there are dead animals and they are expensive; but this is the ONLY fish store I know that does not guarantee their fish! There must be a reason...probably because they wouldn't be able to stay in business if they did that! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE! Cons: Dirty tanks, dead animals, horrible customer service more
