First off this is not a full service restaurant. The food is average at best and your local McDonald's is going to have a nicer atmosphere. They have beer and wine, that?s a plus,...

Awesome customer service and Great food 4/7/2009

Seafood is fresh, tasty, and the environment is very lay back and comfy. You feel like your a family members' home. I've been in a couple of times when they have live music. Pros: Not pricey more

Best fired seafood, plus sides we have found. 2/20/2009

Four of us went to Fish on Fire on Friday night the 20th of February. The staff waiting tables were friendly and well informed. The food came hot and tasty. The fried catfish was the best I have had since my mama's cooking. The fried okra was wonderful. All in all we had a nice meal and took home left overs. We will go back. I like that you now have someone to take orders at your table. We don't eat fried foods all that often but will at Fish on Fire, as nothing was greasy at all. Just very tasty. The hush puppies are really something to try! Pros: Food was good as was the staff. Cons: Didn't find any cons.... more

TERRIFIC FOOD and PRICE 12/25/2008

This restaurant has very good food and service at reasonable prices. In the past my experience has been lukewarm as the management just didn't seem to care, but the last few times I've been there, the people were caring and attentive, (and the place was spotlessly clean). I had a miso ginger tuna for 12 bucks that was perfectly cooked and almost too pretty to eat, and my husband had grilled fish tacos that were excellent. Our total tab was under 25 dollars and that was with a couple of beers. When we left everyone thanked us and it really seemed genuine. I can't wait to come back to try the Mexican shrimp cocktail. Pros: great food and service Cons: awkward location...it's a little hard to find behind a big Exxon more

This place USED TO BE GOOD 11/29/2008

I live right down the street from this place, and was a big fan of Top Cat, a fried catfish place ththat used to be here but is quite a haul now. So I went here, and initailly loved it, they had nice service, you ordered at the bar like fast food, then seated yourself and they brought it out to you. I don't need someone checking on me all the time anyhow. The atmosphere was kinda yuck because if it being an old Taco Bueno or something, but what the heck, I like fried catfish anywhere! The sides used to be good, and I went there quite often, even knew the girl at the counter's name! That being said let me talk about how it is NOW. It started going down hill, the girl at the counter quit and the owner who was working the register yelled at me THE CUSTOMER for asking about her (not questioning, asking) The next time i went, the food was cold, and i couldn't find anyone to help me because the owner was handleing her business from a booth while drinking like a maniac! The last and FINAL time I went, the food was aweful, i actually had scales on my fish, and there what seemed to be this rude butt head talking to AT&T on speaker phone! Turns out it was the owner with her friends, drinking again and cussing out the phone co. My son picked up a four letter word and I never will go back despite the cupons at Kroger! Pros: Decent margarita. Cons: Everything but the margarita! more

Great Salmon Salad and great price 10/5/2008

What a great salad! I am on a diet so a good ( reasonably priced) fresh salmon salad was just what my personal trainer ordered for me today :) The amount of salmon on it could have easily been upcharged by 4 or 5 more dollars. It was fresh salmon on a bed of fresh greens ,apple slices and avacado with a side of their homemade balasmic onion vingerette. Pretty tasty! The atmospere is like a aw shucks or any other crab shack/ fish shack you will find in Dallas, so dress casual and come hungry. They have beer and wine so you are sure to not go thirsty and rumor has it they have a pretty good live band a few times a week. A local favorite for good fish and live music and now mine. Give This fish house a try in dallas on Beltline road and preston. Locally owned and operated, so if it's something is not right you can tell the boss right then! Now THATS service! :) Pros: Casual atmosphere and excellent fish! Cons: easy to miss, it's in a old fast food like bldg, so don't pass it up more

really good for the price 8/29/2008

This place is worth the drive. Our family is in Plano but we'll hop over there all the time for a late night good time. the people are really nice and we have met some interesting characters there!! I completely recommend this place to all! try the #2. YYou'll see when you get there. the best thing on the menu. more

A Neighborhood Gem 8/9/2008

We drive from McKinney 7/9/2008

We drive down from McKinney often just to eat here, because the food is always outstanding. Cooked just like we like it. The employees and management are courteous, always make sure we are satisfied with our food and bubbling with personality. We couldn't find a better place to go for fantastic fish, shrimp, shrimp cocktails, fried okra and the french fried sweet potatoes. We tell everyone about Fish on Fire. Great shrimp! 4/27/2008

if you are looking for a bucket of beer, some great shrimp or fish and som entertainment on a budget, this is ti! I loved the band, the seafood, and they even have margaritas if oyu ask ( yes with tequila) . So check them out. It's the perfect alternative to the stuffy places you find in Dallas. They will treat you right :) Pros: GREAT value. did you use the buy one get one coupon? Cons: Very casual, so don't be surprised, that is the way it's suppose to be. more

Much better choices elsewhere 4/17/2008

First off this is not a full service restaurant. The food is average at best and your local McDonald's is going to have a nicer atmosphere. They have beer and wine, that?s a plus, but you need you jump thought the private membership loophole, big negative. If you are looking for seafood there are much better choices elsewhere. Pros: The seafood prices are good, live music is good Cons: The place is a dump more

Good seafood and cold beer! 6/11/2007

Fish on Fire is a family oriented eatery. We have eaten here several times and the owner, Sam, and his staff have always been gracious. The salmon burger is great. My wife used to work nearby and would stop in on her way home and order about 20-25 lbs of boiled crawfish to go. Sam always made sure it was boxed well and was still hot when we ate it with our neighbors in Rockwall. I really don't care what type of building that it was before Fish on Fire. I only wish that Sam would open a second location- in Rockwall. Pros: Salmon burgers and crawfish Cons: Not close enough to Rockwall but will travel more

Yummy Yummy! 6/7/2007

I'm a big fan of thier fish basket, fish tacos and crawfish...This place is great eats at a great price! Lucky for me it's near the office, I try to go almost once a week! Pros: food, food, food Cons: sometimes it's packed at lunch more

TASTELESS TACOS, POOR SERVICE AND EVEN WORSE FOOD if thats even possible. Won't go back if you paid me. 6/1/2007

I am big on fish tacos, and have been wanting to try this place for a few months, I finally went there at about 3 in the afternoon. I was the only soul in there besides the uncompromising owner that told me that on a 2 taco plate I could only choose one kind and that it would otherwise confuse the cooks that were playing games in the half lit kitchen. I practiclly had to fight to get a fried one and a grilled one. I went to sit outside, 25 minutes later I was presented with this metal plate (I felt i was in the midieval times) I really am a layed back person but I will speak out when I see something wrong and that day I did. The fish tacos consisted of fish sticks that could not have been much wider that my pinky. The tortillas they were wrapped in were hard as rock and chewy even thgough the menu said that they were soft corn tortilla wrapped. 2/3 of the plate was uncle bins rice and the other third was the two fish tacos that were really tasteless. I was so ticked off over the quality that I just got up and left. Ooh and by the way the place smells, and feel very stuffy. it is a converted taco bueno or jack in the box or something. DON'T GO THERE. more

Best Shrimp Cocktail in Town!!!! 1/3/2007

This is definitly becoming a staple in N.Dallas! A friend told me about this place and I was shocked to see how many cars were out front. It struck me as a cozy laid-back seafood joint. You walk in and order at the front and find you a seat. Someone then brings you the food. It got there quickly and the person who delivered it was very friendly. YOU HAVE TO TRY THE MEXICAN SHRIMP COCKTAIL!!! It is wonderful. That and the Grlled Salmon is are my two favorites. As for the atmosphere eveybody is freindly, and service is prompt. I even made some suggestions to a couple standing in line next to us. Where else in town are you going to find that kind of laid-back atmosphere? I eat there 3 times a week and can tell you it has consistently been great! Pros: Food quality, service Cons: So darn packed at Lunch! more

Great atmosphere, even better food 12/30/2006

I eat at Fish on Fire all the time. I usually end up ordering the Fish Tacos but everything always looks so good. When the staff brings your food, you will be amazed by the huge portions. My husband orders the catfish and he always says that it's the best catfish in Texas. I was surprised that the fried food wasn't greasy. I am on a special diet that I can't have certain things but Fish On Fire was always accommodating to my needs. I just have such a great time, especially when they have live music on the weekends. I give it two thumbs up! Pros: Meals under $10, Healthy and great tasting Cons: No complaining here more

Fun for Kids and Adults 12/30/2006

So often the only place you can take your kids now days is to Chuck E Cheese's where the old pizza and noisy games has lost its flare since you were five. When I went to Fish on Fire, the kids were able to draw pictures to put up on the restaurant's glowing Christmas tree while my husband and I enjoyed a glass of wine and sit back and enjoy the music. The live music on Friday night was fun for the kids too. Jimi, the piano player, had the kids play the tambourine. The kids keep begging their dad and me to go back. We don?t mind because the restaurant has great food that?s healthy too. Pros: fun for kids, good food for kids as well as adults Cons: portions can be a little much more

Better than it looked from the outside 11/15/2006

The first few times I drove by this place, I was neither impressed enough nor intrigued enough to consider going in. However, after a recommendation from a friend, we figured we'd try it. First of all, for some reason, I thought it would be a real "restaurant", with table service, waitresses, etc. It's not, though-- you go in and order at the counter like a fast food place, and then they bring it to you. However, the food was quite good. We really enjoyed what we got, and they even had nice cold beer to go with it. I would definitely recommend stopping by this place for a casual lunch with buddies. Pros: good food, cold beer more

Not Bad at all 11/30/2005

I found the place charming. It was pretty full. Service was good. The owner actually rang up our order then checked up on us to make sure everything was to our liking. We ordered grilled Tuna shish-ke-bobs. They were generous portions. Would recommed and intend to make it a regular stop. more

Fish on fire is sloppy and expensive 11/7/2005

Went to Fish on Fire twice. The place used to be a Taco Bueno, but it was sold to Fish on Fire and they painted the outside and built a patio/deck. It looks like a cheap, fun fish place, but walk inside and the prices on the menu seem about $2 or $3 too high for each item. You'd think you were at Red Lobster or something. I was there already so I decided to order. The place was empty but the staff treated me like if there were 10 people in line behind me. The catfish sandwich I got looked like if I could have made a better sandwich myself at home. Sloppy food, worse than homemade. Reluctantly I went back a second time, in case the first time was a fluke. But it just served to remind me why I'll never go back. Pros: deck to sit outside Cons: staff is not friendly, food is sloppy, way too expensive more
