When you read that the decor is funky, believe it. Be prepared. It looks like someone went into the attic and just stapled what they found to the walls. It is a bit of a shocker a...

Great, fresh food 2/16/2008

My husband and I went on Valentines night because it was the 8th place we called, and finally got a reservation. The atmosphere was kind of artsy and a little tacky with Christmas lights, but it had a cool vibe. I like looking at the autographed pictures of country stars on the walls. We tried the mac-n-cheese (oddly) for an appitizer, and it was wonderful. My entree was the crabcakes which were not too greasy and crisp on the outside. I loved it ! The chocolate torte was an amazing desert with serious chocolate goodness. more

Not what I had hoped. Food was just not good. Won't go back. 1/19/2008

My husband and daughter wanted to try a new place for my birthday. We made reservations but still had to wait awhile in the very crowded bar. The host was very friendly but the bartender and our waiter never once smiled or seemed to want to wait on us. The food sounded good by the description but was not at all appetizing. None of us finished our meals (salmon, mahi-mahi, shrimp risotto) which is unusual for us. We all really like the ambience and the decor but the food just wasn't good. Sorry to say we won't go back. Pros: decor and ambience Cons: service, parking, entrance way is very small and crowded more

No longer a personal favorite 5/10/2007

Until recently, I always enjoyed dining at Firefly; I considered it a good to great choice if you want a nice meal in a low key setting but I just had an unpleasant experience at Firefly that has soured my opinion. When I dined there earlier this week, the server absolutely raved about their special - a fish called Escalor. To their credit - the dish was delicious but 24 hours later, I experienced some unpleasant effects from the fish. Turns out that the unpleasant effects of Escalor are well documented. I called Firefly to let them know that a customer got sick from the fish and suggested that they reconsider serving the fish anymore. Firefly's response was: ""yes, we've had people complain in the past that they got sick from Escolar."" I was fairly surpised and asked: ""you've had customers complain about getting sick in the past and yet you still serve it as a special?"" I suggested that if they insisted on serving the fish, their servers should warn patrons of the side effects. Their response was: ""well, I don't think that the waiters should actually tell the diners about the side effects...."" He then tried to assure me that the fish wasn't tainted and the side effects I was feeling wouldn't permanently harm my body - but considering the condition I was in, I took little solace in that fact. The whole conversation was very polite but I was disappointed with Firefly's response to my concern and comments. more

SOOOO Delicious! 7/14/2006

My fiance and I were looking for a new restaurant to try and took a gamble on this place. We were so pleased that we did. Though it was pricey (about $50 for the two of us), we were amazed by the food. I had the butterfish with creamy cheese grits, and he had a etoufee gumbo. We got ravioli as an appetizer. It was all amazing. I had been on a low carb diet but went off it for the night and it was well worth the splurge. I am dreaming about going back again. more

Wonderful Service, Great Food!!! 7/1/2006

My wife and I had a great Saturday night out! The atmosphere was trendy and fun, the waiter was friendly and offered terrific food suggestions, and the actually food was incredible!! We loved the drunken peaches for dessert. With all of the restaurants in Nashville it is very hard to decide on a new place to try, but we were so happy with the Firefly and I can't wait to go back!! more

Delicious food... friendly staff 11/30/2005

A large group of my friends and myself also met at Firefly for lunch; the food was prompt and DELICIOUS, and they accomodated my infant daughter very well. The portions were perfect and after sampling many of the available desserts I can verify that it was extremely delicious (the chocolate creme brule was indeed to die for). The pork tenderloin with creamy grits was incredible, even for this newly relocated non-Southerner. We're planning another meet-up at Firefly... I've been craving that meal again! Pros: Friendly server, Prompt service Cons: Parking was minimal more

WOW 5/4/2005

A group of 6 friends gathered for dinner here on a Wednesday night. It was busy for a Wednesday, but with a reservation, they seated us promptly. The menu has several tasty options from the firefly salad to crab cakes to pork loin, there is something to satisfy everyone! The service was great as well, a little slow, but that is the ambiance of the restaurant. This is a great spot for dates or group gatherings. more
