Firm Overview
The office began in 1977 as Feltz Associates Architects and Planners when its founder Carl Feltz, Jr. decided to leave New York to start his own firm. His father, a retired hospital architect who decided to become active again, and his brother Joseph Feltz joined the firm, making it truly a family practice. Carl's sons eventually became draftsmen and the firm grew to six people. Verity Frizzell first worked here during summer breaks from college before she went to Texas for graduate school. Joe eventually opened his own office in Lincroft, Carl's sons went their separate ways to pursue their own careers, and Mr. Feltz Sr. finally retired at age 89. Ms. Frizzell returned in 1995 and when she became a partner in 1999 the firm name changed to Feltz & Frizzell Architects, LLC.
The firm has remained deliberately small, dedicated to individual customer attention and service. It is our desire to create spaces which meet the needs of the user while respecting the site and larger community; for a building is part of a larger fabric which must be acknowledged and respected. Good design is about proportion and scale as much as it is about functionality and usefulness. A beautiful building which does not meet the needs of the client is every bit as unsuccessful as an uninspired building that fills every practical need.
