The Scene
In a small, unassuming little house just off of Friday Harbor's main drag, the sweet, warm scent of butter, cinnamon and hot bread beckons. Felicity Milne opened the bakery in 1998 after moving from San Franacisco, and she's been busy baking ever since. The tiny interior is filled with display cases and tables bearing fresh artisan bread loaves and warm pastries, and, of course, loyal customers who line up on weekend mornings to take home sticky buns and scones.
<The Food
This is not your gradnma's bakery: Breads have substantial crusts and a complex crumb, and are offered in flavors such as rosemary with sea salt, olive, and buttermilk herb. Everything is baked from scratch throughout the day; if you're lucky, a batch of warm brioche filled with chocolate ganache will be just coming out of the oven when you walk in the door. Don't leave without trying one of the outstanding chocolate ?clairs.
