THE BEST!!!! I have been going to Doreen for a few years now and have had waxes all over the country and nothing compares to The Face Place!!! Being a newcomer to Portland, I trusted Citysearch to find a place to get a bikini wax. I scheduled a Brazilian wax with Doreen at The Face Place based upon Citysearch reviews. The Face Place is in a lovely location in the Pearl District and the facility itself is clean and inviting. Doreen is professional, friendly and is an excellent waxing technician. She made it as painless and as comfortable as possible. She was very personable and down to earth. I concur with a previous reviewer that she is indeed “The Wax Queen”! I love the face place, Doreen is a sweetheart and great at what she does. I came here to leave stellar review and saw the one below and I'm not sure if that person had a freak one time experience there, or just has a bad attitude or what, but I've seen Doreen multiple times and have several friends that do as well and she is always great. Being in the industry I know what it's like to not have a receptionist and have people expect you to have openings that day, or have gotten your call at 9pm the night before for your appointment tomorrow. sometimes it's just not possible to get to all the messages and deal with appointments and walkins. I've never known Doreen to scream or huff, i can't even picture it. she's the sweetest lady and made me feel right at home. even distracts me from the painful service i'm getting done! remembers things about me and has squeezed me in for last minute appointments. she is very professional, her space is beautiful and i highlly recommend her. she also gives a discount for bringing cash or check! more

I've been going to Doreen for about 2 years now for waxes. Before i found the face place i tried many other places and wasnt satisfied and she did such a great job, fast, and with a friendly chatting that i felt I had known her forever. I wouldnt go anywhere else and i've turned many friends on to the face place and they all love it too. Just this last Sat I was waxed by the other woman that works at the face place and She did a fantastic job too. Very thorough and made me feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend the Face Place and either the owner or the other women. Sorry i forgot her name, Starts with an S. Try them out you wont be disappointed!! If I could detract stars I would take away -1000000. I am 7-1/2 months pregnant, so my hormones are a bit more touchy than normal, but regardless, bad service is just bad service. I called yesterday and left a message to request an appt. for an eyebrow waxing. I never heard back from anyone so I decided this morning since I would be passing by, I would take advantage of the ""WALK IN WELCOME"" policy that was listed on the website. I waited a few minutes before the woman, who apparently was the owner, emerged from upstairs with a client. She asked me what I wanted so I said, ""Your website said you accept walkins, I was wondering if I could get an eyebrow waxing done."" She huffed and mumbled something about walkins as though it wasn't clearly stated on the website and then bitched at me, ""Well I dont have any time for you today"" even though there was no one even in the waiting area. Since she was making such a big deal about the walk-in I told her that I had called yesterday to try to make an appt but had never heard back to which she asked my name and then proceeded to yell at me, "" I DID call you!!! Maybe YOUR PHONE didnt get it but I called, Im the OWNER why would I LIE?!!!"" I was so disgusted by the total lack of respect this woman who should be service oriented, its her BUSINESS, was giving me. I told her, well I didnt get anything and I certainly wouldn't just walk in if you had actually called me. She then proceeded to continue berating me as I made my way to the door and slammed it behind me. I will NEVER EVER consider going to this place, and I already sent messages to all of my girlfriends about what happened so they will not use this establishment either. What a shame. You would think with such a down economy service with a smile would be a must. All the woman had to do was be polite and I would have just scheduled an appt for a better time. Instead she screamed and huffed at me and neither I nor anyone I know will ever give her our business in the future. Cons: The owner was a completely rude b*tch to me. more

I had my first Brazilian with Dorene. Of course it hurt a bit but I can't imagine it being any better. She came with recommendations from friends and went out of her way to make me comfortable and help me through my first experience. From what I've heard there are not a lot of people that do Brazilians for guys; I will definitely go back! more

After having a couple horrible waxing experiences, I didn't have high hopes. Having especially sensitive skin I was nervous to try again. The ladies at the Face Place provided me with outstanding service and amazing results. I reccomend them to all my friends looking for an unpretentious, reliable and reasonable wax. Yes, it was almost painless. It was an experience that I will never forget. Dorene gave me my first Brazilian, and she did a very good job. She was very personable, and down to earth. She talk to me the whole time, and made me very comfortable. Dorene made sure that there was not one stitch of hair left. I totally recommended her to everyone that is thinking about getting any waxing done. I guess they gave her the right nickname The Wax Queen! more

I have been going to the Face Place for about 3 years now. Dorene truly cares about all her customers. She is so respectful and professional, and at the same time being so much fun and easy to talk to. She makes everyone feel so comfortable and like one of her friends. I get the Brazilian wax, and wouldn't go anywhere else but to Dorene to get it done. She's fast, thorough, and painless. I was referred to Dorene by a friend of mine and have since referred her to everyone I know. A few years ago a friend gave me a gift certificate to the Face Place for a facial and brow wax. I had gotten a few facials in the past....and yeah, they put a lot of goop on my face and then put different goop on my face.....I never really thought it was worth the time and money. BUT, after my facial with Doreen, I cannot lie, my face looked FANTASTIC! The products that she has there are phenomenal...and most importantly, she does not push ANY products on her clients! But trust me, take her recommendations...your face will thank you....and get a brow wax too..... more

I've gone to several wax joints to to get a brazilian, and Dorene is hands-down the best. First of all, the place is quiet, clean and calming--a true spa. Second of all, Dorene is so nice that you even forget the reason you're there. Finally--and this is the best--she somehow makes sure it doesn't hurt. Okay, the first time it hurts, but she helps you with breathing and a 321 countdown. She is authoritative, confident and literally the best in the business. I will never stray...she will wax me until the day I die. Or until I move. : ) more

I have seeing Dorene to get facials for over a year now, and the results have really been impressive. My acne has cleared up and revealed my true skin underneath. Recently I had to schedule with the other girl working there and I was afraid that it wouldn't be of the same quality as with Dorene, but she also did a wonderful job. Both girls have been very friendly, but they've also known when to shut up and let me relax! the products they used on me where fantastic, I liked them so much i purchased the cleanser and moisturizer she used on me during the facial. The best brazillian around. I live in Eugene and drive up - that's how good the service is. If you are shy no worries because they aren't. This isn't for the faint of heart but if you are looking for thorough hair removal at the speed of lightning the Face Place is the best. more

Ive been seeing Doreen to get my waxing services done for years, and I have to say she is the only person I trust to do my Brazilian, or brows. No one I have ever seen can get my brows just right, but Doreen always does. Highly recommended. i'm visiting my parents here in portland and needed to find a place that did a good brazilian waxing. i kinda went in blind but found this place by sheer luck thru city search. it was awesome! let's face it, brazilians hurt like a mother, but dorene did it fast and as close to pain free as i've ever had. she was also incredibly friendly and quite funny (which is always nice to take your mind off of the fact that your soul is being ripped out by its roots all for the love of a guy). she was professional, her place was clean, very reasonably priced, and did a superb job. she also uses great wax products that make it efficient and fast. kudos dorene! i wish you could come back with me to atlanta! i just moved to portland and i was really nervous to go to a new waxer. i didn't really want to ask a coworker, because let's face it, that's just awkward. so i did some internet research and then just crossed my fingers. \r i got really lucky. i had an amazing brazilian wax. it was really fast and not painful (considering the circumstances). i got waxed and back to work in 45 minutes without any pain. \r \r more

Like another reviewer, I just recently moved to Portland and was very hesitant about finding another place to get waxed. I went to another salon that only charged 9 dollars for brows but you get what you pay for so I went a little higher. But at $15 it is still a deal.
