If you have a chance to visit the Charleston area you not only have one beach but mulitiple beaches to choose from. Charleston is unique in that there are several barrier islands for beaches so they are not "connected" and offer different things for different people. Kiawah is probably one of the most remote just due to the location. It's convenient to the West Ashley area and of course, Kiawah. There is a $5 fee for parking but for the $5 fee you can park all day and this includes a place to change and showers (outside) after you go to the beach. They also have an area with not one but several lifeguards. You can go out of the lifeguard area, but they will not go past their area. So, if you have little kids or not a strong swimmer this might be comforting. Not many beaches in the area have lifeguards, but Kiawah does. They also have a small snack bar with things snack bars and drinks. This is a beautiful unspoiled beach.
