Expresso 77

After a rough day, I decided to head to this cafe for their coffee and ""relaxed atmosphere."" As soon as I went in, I noticed there was a long line of people waiting to place their order. I saw a seat and quickly sat down to get myself situated before getting up to place my order. As I was looking for my wallet, the owner of the cafe came up to me and asked if I was planning on just sitting there or am I going to order something. I told him I will and not to worry about. Of course, I didn't order anything. Instead, I told one of the guys behind the counter that the owner was very rude, that I was never planning on coming back and I plan on writing a bad review of this place on every website I can think of, which is what I'm doing now. :) Oh btw, I also told him to tell the owner I was going to Starbucks, which was only 2 blocks away. Overrated by Jackson Heighters. Read any review on chowhound by those who visit, not reside in, Jackson Heights. most, if not all, of them rate it as average and overpriced. The coffee basically tastes like Starbucks, and the whole essence of the place is pretentious. In addition, the female owner has a real attitude. The baked goods are mundane and the paninis and soups are frozen. Forget about the stuff they sell, overpriced and not of good quality. Please. Go to Letys. more

I have to admit that I am a fan of Starbucks...but I was glad to try Espresso 77 and was very impressed. The place is charming. If you choose to stay to drink your coffee you are served in a real mug. The staff is friendly and they have great service. On Sunday nights you can catch live music at 7. The bake goods are very yummy. They even sell I heart Queens bags and Jackson Heights T-Shirts. If the choice is Starbucks at 78th St. I would walk down to 77th St. and turn the corner for a friendly neighborhood joint with excellent Java.
