It was fun, but the service could definitely use some help. My question is, why were there so many cheesy-looking people there?? Pros: Good music Cons: Crappy service

WOULDNT GO BACK 9/9/2007

FIRST OF ALL LET ME START BY HAVING TO WAIT AN HOUR AND A HALF ON LINE TRYING TO GET IN AS IF THE PRESIDENT WAS IN THERE, SECOND OF ALL THE PLACE WAS OVER CROWDED. I HAVE TO SAY THEY PLAYED GOOD MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG BUT THE WOMEN UP IN THERE XMELLED SO BAD IVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THAT. THEN WHEN WE GET OUTSIDE AND DUDES TRYING TO HOLLAH AT MY GIRLS AND I THEY ASKED US WHERE WE WERE COMING FROM AND WE TOLD THEM EUGENES THEY WERE LIKE I'LL. I DONT KNOW WHAT THAT WAS ABOUT BUT I'LL NEVER GO BACK Pros: GOOD MUSIC Cons: NASTY CROWD more

ELECTRIC AVENUE FRIDAYS / SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE ...EUGENES=THAT SH*T 4/7/2007

I've been to Eugene's a total of 4 times and I haven't had a negative experience there. I went through a website to be on the guestlist each time and got in free before 12. The only issueI had on line were some rude partygoers who were starting arguements and pushing. The line is only long AFTER 12. The bouncers have never given me a problem. Coat check was fast and easy. Drinks were a bit pricey, But it's NYC, Thats expected. The DJ kept the hip-hop, r&b and dancehall poppin' all night. People were well dressed. However, there were a lot of women in there with attitudes which I can do without. Some people came dressed to pose for pictures, some came to dance. A lot of people talk about Eugene's like its some low class hood club, Its far from such. I would definitely recommend going before 12am on a Friday or Saturday and leaving your attitude at home. You'll definitely have a great time! Pros: Good Music, Great Ambience, Fabulous Time... Cons: Small dancefloor, Crowd can be a bit uptight at times, A little pricey more

most demeaning and offensive treatment i've experienced on any continent 1/6/2007

alright...to be fair, i never actually made it inside; so it could be decent once you get through the international-airport-style line...but my friends and i, all well-dressed attractive folks and ON THE GUEST LIST mind you, were so unbelievably offended by the way the bouncers handled not only ourselves but the other patrons that we couldn't bring ourselves to go in and instead left for another venue. first we were YELLED AT for stepping a few inches too far to one side of an imaginary line created by the bouncer in the first of the three line-sections required to enter the bar; we then were accused of "ruining HIS night" for not knowing about said imaginary line and being better skilled at the whole line-waiting thing. we get to the second of the three sections and a portion of our group (again, ON the guest list) is held back while the rest pass to the next level, and we are stuck there for 15 minutes while the 3 bouncers huff cigar smoke in our faces and gripe about all the people trying to get into the bar like our very existence is putting them out...time to find alternate employment? finally we progress to the last portion of the line, already deeply offended and soured on the whole experience, and while one bouncer is frisking another customer airport-style (arms spread, etc) a friend who is having her purse and personal items dug through by another employee is told that if she wants to enter the premises she'll have to relinquish her cigarettes, lighter, and pens and pencils also found in the bag. This was the last straw. being condescended and scolded like kindergarteners is one thing, but who wants to be in an establishment where it is assumed that the customers will use their writing utensils as weapons? again, i can't say that it's not a decent place once you're inside, but i for one will never find out because no incentives or apologies could ever persuade me to give another chance to a place that allows its customers to be treated this way. Pros: nada Cons: deplorable treatment of soon-to-be customers more

I used to promote this venue back in 03' and it was the place to be...the VIP room was serious...all sorts of celebs...the management has always been kinda stuck up...the bartenders are pretty cool and hook you up with the drinks. Fridays are cool but GET THERE EARLY because the line is crazy and you will end up paying $20 or more to get in but it's actually worth it when you get in...There's usually celebs or athletes hosting so that is why it gets so packed out but I guarantee you will enjoy yourself. Now I just coordinate parties and this is one of the venues that I book for my clients. Pros: Music, People, Bottle specials Cons: Crowded, Door more

nothing special 11/29/2005

I went there two years ago for my 21st b-day and i had a great time. I went again last weekend and it was horrible. RUDE is the word to describe everyone in this place. Especially the bartender. me and my friends were on a b-day guest list. before we went in i called the promoter through which we got a guest list and confirmed that it will be free for girls and guys before 11. we got in 10:40 and my bf had to pay $20. we were told that reg admission is $35-40. i dont know what they think they are to charge that much. it is not worth it. their 'open bar' was rum only. the line to the coat check was horribly long, it took us about 15 min to check our coats. nothing special, chose a different place... Pros: decent music Cons: staff, expensive, very average more

LOVE it! 9/11/2005

I am so surprised to see so many negative reviews here, because I LOVE this place! I always have good time here. The music is great, and there's room to dance or just lounge. But get there early, or be prepared to shell our $20 to get in. more

HORRIBLE Place, HORRIBLE Staff 7/6/2005

Worst NYC experience of my life. This place is so horrible that I had to sign up to CitySearch JUST to write a bad review. My friends and I went there last weekend for a bachelorette which was already supposed to be set up for us. The bride-to-be got in for FREE but everyone else was charged $25. When we voiced how ridiculous that was, the event coordinator basically told the bride-to-be to leave and take her friends with her because he didn't need our business, and whoever had already paid, even if they stayed for only 5 minutes, won't get their money back. Well guess what buddy, that's the last time this group of 30 would step into your place, and we'll make sure everyone else we know doesn't either. I highly NOT recommend this place if you want to have a good time in NYC. Cons: Rude Staff, Rude Bouncers, Just plain RUDE more

What a Waste of Time 4/3/2005

The staff is rude, the crowd is way too young and the drinks are way over priced. With all of the better options in the area skip this one. more

Saturday night BLAST 8/9/2003

Was at Eugene's last Saturday night and had a BLAST! The lounge area's very mellow - the dance floor was packed...drinks were nice and strong. The people were awesome!!!! Definitely going back next week! ;) Pros: Great music, Great people, Great service Cons: Pricey, Crowded more

VERY RUDE 6/13/2003

THIS PLACE IS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. THE MUSIC IS HORRIBLE AND IF THE BOUNCERS WERE ANYMORE RUDER THEY SHOULD GET JOBS AS WARDENS. THE WAITRESSES TOLD US IF WE SAT DOWN AT A TABLE WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GO TO THE BAR TO ORDER A DRINK! I WOULDNT GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN IF THEY PAID ME AND NEITHER SHOULD ANYONE ELSE. Cons: EXPENSIVE, RUDE more

Sure I'll go again.....NEVER! 5/21/2003

Ok, so not everyone in NY is intelligent..I give you that but how can a place like Eugene's exist? The staff is completely rude, the "security" is anything but and to push back a party that was GUARANTEED in advance some two weeks prior! Eugene's should be ashamed of how they treated our group. The event coordinator gave no courtesy to our group of 60 plus people and didn't notify us of THEIR change in plans in advance or upon arrival, let alone apologize to us. So if you are looking for an amazing night that is going to be fun with all your friends, I can pretty much recommend any place but Eugene's, but if you like staff who doesn't comply to the dress code and outrageous prices for drinks that aren't that great...Eugene's is your place. Have fun and say hi to the event staff for me! Pros: Rude Staff, Drink prices are HIGH, Rookie event staff Cons: Staff, Attitudes, Unprofessional more

Don't Go!!! 5/21/2003

If your looking for a good place to have a great time with some friends, you won't find it at Eugene's. This place really sucks not to mention the pack of hungry bouncers giving you attitude at the door! I tried to attend a party there and it will be the last time I step foot anywhere near there unwelcomig doors. more

I was apart of the nightmare... 5/21/2003

I stood in line to get into Eugene's for the party discussed above and it was A NIGHTMARE. We were treated extremely rude by the staff as we waited in line; then, were ultimately told to leave. I will NEVER go to Eugene's again! more

nightmare 5/15/2003

Terrible Service and Outrageous Attitude. Confirmed a party there two weeks prior to the event, only to be REFUSED ENTRANCE upon arrival at door. If dealing with an Incredibly INCOMPETENT, cocky event coordinator is your thing, you can find him at Eugene's. Cons: Awful Service, Plenty Attitude, Rude more

surprisingly good 3/17/2003

I never knew that Eugene served dinner til I went there for a friend's bday party on Saturday. In any case, they have a dinner deal that's a really good value. $40 for three courses and unlimited wine by the glass. The food wasn't anything amazing, but was pretty decent for the price. Plus you also bypass the $20 cover you would otherwise have to pay. I've been there numerous times and the music is always pretty good and it's a fun scene. The crowd is a bit on the B&T side, but overall, it's pretty easy to have a good time and there's a decent number of cute girls. My only complaints are that the dance floor is pretty small and it took a while to get seated for dinner and served. Pros: Good value for dinner, Good music Cons: Small dance floor, A little B&T more

Eu-are gonna have fun-gene's 12/16/2002

Definitely a great place to be. Was there for a party and the staff was very accomodating and professional. Food is light, but good. Dance floor was definitely adequate. Down-stairs to bathroom not fun, but good staff inside. Place is decked out awesome. Hang out in the old-time curved tables in the wall, or the loungey chairs. GO! more

a really fun time actually 12/1/2002

I went on a Friday and got in for $5, so there are deals out there. I also went with a fun group so we just had a great time. The music was mostly hip-hop all night. I could have used a little more variety but because they have the lounge area I was able to just hang out and talk while waiting for the next good song to come on. The drinks were really expensive though. The crowd did seem a little bridge and tunnel but again, I was with a great group so we just partied and noone bothered us. Pros: lounge area, dance area, bar area Cons: expensive drinks more

Old World Elegance 8/25/2002

The atmosphere created by the neo-classic decor in Eugene is an exciting mix of elegance and class. The people watching is unbeatable! (Puffy seems like a regular, and one night I saw Michael Jordan there!) Plus, there is an amazing dining room and excellent lounge food! Highly recommend Pros: Atmosphere, Crowd, Music Cons: A little Expensive more

So Much Potential 7/30/2002

Great decor, expensive drinks but worth the price, but the music is bland and the crowd is very cheezy...Great place to hang with a large group...but don't expect to meet anyone there Pros: Decor, Great Drinks Cons: OK Music, Cheezy Crowd, Too Many Couples more

Slippery Slope 7/29/2002

It was fun, but the service could definitely use some help. My question is, why were there so many cheesy-looking people there?? Pros: Good music Cons: Crappy service more
