Arms Spread Wide on the Starboard Bow 4/16/2010

I want to bring to your attention a true under the radar joint here in Atlanta that is putting forth a quality product. And this place ladies and gentlemen is the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club. And yeah, you read it right “yacht club” on “Euclid Avenue” while the name is a bit of a misnomer and can leave you puzzled and shaking your head, the food is LEEgit.\r \r I’m at the Yacht Club every Monday for trivia and pretty much always eat, so that makes the EAYC the place other than my kitchen that I eat at most regularly. So I figured it was high time I give them their due in the form of an official review.\r \r Upon entering the bar, you could easily question whether you actually want to eat in what at first glance is just a dive bar… and you’d be right, at least on the dive bar part, as Details Magazine has actually recognized the Yacht Club as one of the top 10 dive bars in the country. But trust me, don’t let the façade and the surroundings fool you, the EAYC is putting out some pretty good food. Yes it is bar food and not fine dining, but all the tastes and flavors are there.\r \r So lets start with my favorite thing at the Yacht Club, the brisket burrito. Surprisingly this thing isn’t even listed on the menu any more, but if you ask for it they’ll make you one. The burrito is filled with a healthy helping of house smoked brisket, pinto beans and melted cheddar cheese and finished off with the EAYC’s delicious sweet and tangy bbq sauce. Its served with your choice of side (personally I recommend the fried okra) and I just can’t get enough. Oh so tasty. \r \r As much as it shocks me, the Yacht Club also has a pretty rockin veggie burger. I’ve had bites of veggie burgers at various points in my life, but I’ve never actually finished one. Now one of my trivia partners orders a veggie burger every week and she raves about them. So I finally decided to give it a try and damn was I impressed. It’s a house made patty of crunchy veggies, rolled oats and brown rice all served on a challah roll. Its so good that I ate not one, but two of ‘em and will definitely be ordering it again. \r \r Now if you’re not that hungry and just want a snack, the Yacht Club definitely has you covered. My personal favorite is the house made pork rinds…. hey we are in the south people and I’m a southern boy. The pork rinds are fried fresh to order and just have this wonderful flavor runnin through them, plus the fact that they come to the table nice and warm is awesome. Fresh fried pork rinds are a rarity and when I find ‘em I’m always happy. I do like my pork rinds hot and spicy so I always get a side of hot wing sauce for dipping. If you’re not feeling the idea of pork rinds, check out the bbq pork egg rolls. There are 3 to an order and each eggroll is stuffed with house smoked pork bbq, cole slaw and drizzled with bbq sauce. It is truly a wonderful flavor combination: smoked pork, with all its goodness, cool cole slaw that has a great balance of sweet and acidity and some tangy bbq sauce all inside an eggroll wrapper that is fried to golden perfection. \r \r I’ve tried just about everything on the menu and must say that pretty much everything I’ve had has been really good. So if ever you’re in L5P and are hungry for a bite, drop in on the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club for some quite tasty grub. You won’t be disappointed. \r Pros: awesome bar food, house smoke bbq, great trivia night Cons: a little smoky more

Where do they keep the pirates? 11/21/2006

Its one of the best local bars in town. Its slam down in the middle of Little Five. Parking can be a nightmare but besides that and a few teenage homeless kids from Iowa its a gem. First off at night its dark enough you can relax and avoid creditors. The food is decent, the beer is cold, and the service is normally on the money. Pros: Food, service, people Cons: parking more

Great food, atmosphere 10/29/2006

Yet another Atlanta institution. Ecclectic crowd, great bar food, and good service. Don't pass up the Yacht Dog or the Brunswick stew! Pros: Unique atmosphere more

Good food, beer, bartenders, time. 10/15/2006

I've been to this place a few times over the years and I never leave disappointed. This last time I had the Georgia Dog which is a hotdog topped with Brunswick Stew. It tasted great. I've never tried it, but they have a good selection of BBQ items as well. Good selection of beer. There are always people at the bar to strike up a conversation. Whenever I'm in Little 5 Points I always make an effort to stop by for a pint and some food. Pros: good bar food, prices, nice view of Euclid Ave more

The best bar in Little 5 Points! 10/19/2004

I'm a regular at the Yacht(how we locals call it), this is the best spot in little 5 points and surrounding areas. Cheap beer, good food, great dart board, no pretentious people, great service crew, good rock n roll... best times! more

Yacht's Hot! 5/18/2003

This is the best bar in Atlanta. It's not for being seen, it's not a pickup place (by the standard definition) and it's not terribly well decorated. However, if you are looking for a neighborhood bar with what I would assert is the best quality bar food (when I say bar food, I'm referring to the standards: burgers, fries, bbq, burritos, chips and cheese, etc) in the entire city, this is the spot. The service is always efficient if a bit gruff, the music is passable, and you're not going to break the bank Pros: neighborhood bar, great quality food, fun Cons: sometimes bad music, smokey more

Cooler than Buckhead and Strip Mall Bars 1/17/2003

The Yacht Club is one of Atlanta's better bars. Why? Simply because it reminds you of the traditional neighborhood bar that you'd find in Chicago or in the dissapearing neighborhoods of Boston. Comfortable, friendly, and cheap. It's really one of the few places in Little 5 Points to just go sit down and have a beer and that's unfortunate. Pros: In a Old Neighborhood, Cheap Beer, Great Atmosphere more

Best bar in town 7/30/2002

This is what a bar is supposed to be. A place to go and drink. Try the brisket with a PBR. You can't go wrong. Pros: good beer, specials Cons: packed on sunday more

Neighborhood fave 5/20/2002

Don't let the bikers scare you. The Yacht Club is an all-inclusive neighborhood bar. Overhearing conversations ranging from theories on Chomsky to rebuilding engines is just part of the fun at the long-time area favorite. The large tables and booths in the side room serve as the perfect place for a late-night conversation with all your best friends. more

Good place to grab a beer 5/13/2002

The Yacht Club's popularity is a bit puzzling if you're looking for a place with instant charisma and character. But its non-descript atmosphere is its strength; the surroundings don't overwhelm, making for a great, low-key environment in which to chat with friends. The bar area gets pretty crowded during peak times, but there's some respite to be found at the tables. The Y.C. can get a bit heavy with back-slapping frat types, but that's the price one pays for a welcoming, all-inclusive vibe. Pros: Chatty atmosphere Cons: Crowds easily more
