Pretty Gym but Extremely Expensive, Read the fine print on the contract 3/26/2008

Equinox is a beautiful gym but very expensive. They increase the rates every January without fail. The cost has gone up $20 in the last three years. I canceled when it reached $139. Make sure to cancel 45 days in advance.Otherwise, they'll charge another monthly fee. I switched to NY Sports and am saving over $1000 a year. Pros: Pretty gym, Cons: very expensive, yearly rate increases, closed on sundays, more

Still my favorite NYC gym. 2/14/2008

Seven years ago, I had surgery and rehabbed at the rehab facility at the Equinox on 43rd and 5th. With my rehab, I had use of the elite facilities for 4 months. I was spoiled by the steam sauna, and amenities like razors, mouthwash, q-tips, lotion, and deodorant available in the women's dressing room. I won't call it a locker room, because it's much more. It's spacious and the lay-out makes sense in that you aren't bumping into the person next to you. There are massage rooms in the locker area as well and there are spa treatments that can be scheduled. Half the lockers are full length and you're not stuck cramming your outdoor gear including coat into a tiny space. Coat check is available though. There are mirrors and hair dryers available at over a dozen spaces. There are personal lockers where you can store sneakers and toiletries full time, the gym is pristine, in the dressing area and outside in the weight area and cardio equipment area. The showers are private with an individual room to shower and a room to change with a mirror and stool. Pros: Cleanliness, steam sauna, professionalism, well maintained equipment dressing rooms. Cons: No weekend hours may bother some, it's expensive, but probably worth it. more
