Editorial review from Citysearch 6/29/2012

Equestrian Arts Institute is wonderful. My Arabian gelding has been there for seven years now. The care he receives is excellent, and I and my daughters have loved the riding lessons. The teachers are very competent, passionate, and they tailor the lessons to just what you need. I love the Ladies Dressage Team -where we have lunch, lecture and lesson once a month. I highly recommend EAI! more

Professional and GREAT lessons. 11/7/2011

My daughter has been a student at Equestrian Arts Institute for just over 6 months. She is 10 years old and has always loved horses. She asked for lessons last year for her birthday and my husband and I decided she was old enough and resposnible enough, so we started the research into finding a good riding stable. \r \r I came across EAI here on citysearch. I called them before reading the reviews (thankfully, because I don't know if it would have called after reading the reviews). My first call was received by Amy (Emma's instructor) who was very helpful and friendly on the phone. She invited us to come visit and observe a lesson. We set-up an appointment. After the phone call, I had misplaced the phone number so got back onto citysearch and it was then that I read the reviews. I was so stunned, as it just didn't match up with the impression I got over the phone. \r \r I decided to follow through with the appointment just to see what this EAI was all about (now I was skeptical). When we arrived at EAI at our appointed time we were greeted by Amy who showed us around and then took us to one of the arenas where Toney (owner) was giving a lesson. The lesson was with 3 teenagers that were jumping various scary looking jumps. What I noticed most about Toney's teaching style was that the whole class was having fun, but also accomplishing some pretty terrific feats (at least to my novice eyes). \r \r After that lesson was over, Amy moved on to a lesson with 3 young riders (probably 6-9 in age). Her demeanor with these younger kids was very soft and caring. I was so impressed with not only Amy's teaching style, but the way the kids responded, I was hooked. I could see a immediate future with Amy and a long term future with Toney for Emma's riding career. I don't know who was more excited, me or Emma!\r \r Now, 6 months later, both Emma and I are very happy at EAI. We love all the staff and the horses. Emma has had some near falls and some fearful moments, but Amy and Toney are always there to help her through them. We are so happy to be apart of the EAI family!\r \r more

Would Not Recommend 5/23/2011

This stable apparently likes to get over on people with money. They are notorious for writing bad checks as well. They also have no clue on how to teach kids the correct riding habits and positions. I would not recommend this stable to anyone. more

Best Program Ever! 5/1/2011

This class was phenomenal! Always a retreat and stress reliever. The instructors go above and beyond to make your riding level improve. The confidence and ability to ride all came from the trust I had in my instructors. The Equestrian Arts Institute holds their students to a level at which each lesson you can only improve and gain more confidence on horseback. Even as a senior I hope to stop by and visit as well as continue to ride wherever I go. This program has truly made me fall in love with horseback riding. Maria Kelly UNC 2011 more

Absolute WORST riding stable ever! 3/22/2011

Equestrian Arts Institute is a money scheme. In addition, it is a very unsafe enviroment for both riders and horses. The so called ""instructors"" are are very incompetent in training and teaching teqniques. The instructors have acutally had only minimal riding experience themselves therefore they are not able to correctly instruct riders. The assistant trainor is actually suspended from the U.S.E.F. The head trainor is quite manipulative and deceptive. She has been known to put down payments on horses and never pay the remaining balance. She has had several liens on her Orange county property due to her non-payment for horses and other various reasons. \r \r I beleive that it is unsafe for anyone to ride at this facility. There was an incident a few years ago when a rider fell off, face first on a jump and the head trainer never walked over to see if the child was ok. Instead, she literally got in her truck and left the the property. She was nowhere to be found untill the next day. Meanwhile, the assistant trainer attempted to move the child after it was apparent that she could possibly have a neck injury. The mother of the child was the one who called the ambulance because for some reason the trainers acted as if they did not want and officials on their property. Also, for some odd reason, the head trainer most of the time will not allow parents to watch their child's lessons. \r Horses are not safe at this location either. There was a very recent incident of a horse that ended up being killed due to the ignorance of these trainers. The horse was being lunged in an aggresive manner and somehow ended up smashing into a fence of some sort that had a large blunt object sticking out that impaled the horse. He was put down by a vet on the scene. \r I would not recommend anyone to this horse stable! \r \r more

Competent, strong instruction 7/10/2010

My daughter started as a complete novice and now 2 years later she is a strong, gutsy rider. She knows her theory and how to ride. \r \r Equestrian Arts Institute is not for the weak hearted. The camps and lessons programs are intense, but the instructors make sure that the students are having fun at the same time. The advancement is quite amazing. The instructors are very complimentary of each other in their strengths and weaknesses. \r \r The facility was an old dairy barn, so when you first drive up it is a lot different then what you would envision for a horse farm. Not a negative, just something a bit different. The 4 arenas are quite nice. Pros: Fun and Educational Riding lessons Cons: Non traditional facility (not negative, just different) more
