Wouldn't say this place is the total abomination that others here have (I actually kinda liked the place at first), but I've been here over a year and I'm ready for a change.

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/18/2014

From what I have seen below in the reviews that were written a year or more ago, they must be talking about a different property. I love living here. The staff is amazing, the apartments are beautiful and I am truly happy being here. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/16/2013

DO NOT MOVE HERE. Let me just start by telling you we are a young, hard working professional couple, who are NOT on section 8, both work 2 jobs and are very careful about taking good care of our living areas. We are polite, social people who never really have any issues with anyone else. We keep to ourselves and respect others. That being said, if you are anything like us, RUN FAR FROM THIS PLACE and don’t waste your hard-earned money. My husband I moved to Rockland from Boston looking for a quieter place, with more room and place we can have 2 cars. At first, the lofts looked AMAZING! The high ceilings, rustic columns, exposed vents and new appliances were all very appealing. We liked the history that came with the place as well. We were sucked in right away. The first few days we were in, was when things went downhill for us. We immediately realized the walls were so thin, we could hear our next door neighbor’s sneeze, their TV blaring and worse, we often heard not just one neighbor, but many neighbors on either side of us having sex. We were glad we didn’t have young kids. It’s not just the neighbors, the noise and the smells of everyone’s dinner. We can deal with that. It’s the management. From Gail, to Angelo and now to Nate and Dianne. They are all criminal swindlers disguised as landlords and managers. Don’t let the title of “luxury apartments” fool you. The majority of people renting units in this large building are Section 8. Crappy, disgusting, loud and dirty people that will throw beer bottles of glass in the parking lot, their kids take craps in the pool (it just recently had to be drained completely, cleaned and then re-opened) the gym equipment is always broken, right now the tread on the treadmill slips completely off and the elliptical doesn’t turn. Not to mention the plow barely comes during a winter storm, so forget about trying to get out. And the management office ISN’T OPEN ON MONDAYS, and can often be seen closed numerous times during the week. We had to spend 2 long years in this awful place because my husband is military, and was overseas when our lease was up so I was forced to renew. And now that we are out, I took pictures of the place as we left it, clean and spectacular, and they are coming back to us now with fake pictures of holes in the walls that we never made, claiming they’re going to charge us hundreds of dollars for repairs! I’m so upset over this whole situation I want to cry. We are being treated the same as their Section 8 tenants whose apartments I’ve seen, massive gaping holes in the walls, stains and units that reek of marijuana. There’s one apartment in our hallway that basically has a revolving door…many many men in and out. the woman who lives next door has a young daughter who hears what goes on in there and she’s mortified. The moral of the story is take your money elsewhere if you want to have a happy, pleasant living experience. Rockland is a great city, plenty of nice, calm places to live. But the Emerson Shoe lofts are NOT one of them. more

Not as bad as these reviews say 10/5/2011

The apartments are great!!! I work in construction and live in the building and they did a great job!!! All granite, stainless steel, beautiful old wood beams, washer and dryer, dishwasher, microwave, and fire place. Modern, stylish, not too expensive. Yes, as with anywhere there have been some minor issues, however it seems management has gotten a grasp of things. Not the management or residents fault for a few idiots. Most of the issues are punk kids, which seem to be leaving as security is stepped up. All of these crazy reviews are unrealistic! This isnt Compton here ok!!!! Kids party everywhere, seems like the parents are the renters and their kids cause some issues but that has stopped in the last 6 months. These are not ""cheap"", they are luxury apartments, so punk kids cannot really afford them. Apartment living is different than in a home, there is some noise but its not bad for ""apartment standards"". Maintenance is great!! Quick, smart, and hard working!!! Pool and gym are very nice. Overall great building for the price, you wont find this value anywhere else on the south shore!!!!!!!! more

I'm a fan! 9/7/2011

I love this place! It's everything that I wanted from the day I stepped foot in the leasing office. The girls in the office were so attentive and helped my wife and I find the perfect apartment! The pool is awesome because you can swim all year round and the gym is perfect for those cold nights when I want to run after a long day at work. Our apartment is on the 3rd floor. It has high ceilings, with exposed wood and beams. All of our friends commented on it last weekend for our son's birthday party. The people see, very nice and my neighbor Dawn has been so helpful! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who was in need of a new apartment complex that is close to the highway, the commuter rail, and schools. As far as the concern for security, I recently saw a police officer patrolling during the evenings. It appears that Emerson has really stepped it up since these past posts. I give it two thumbs up! more

The only good thing here is Mario 7/8/2011

First I have to say that Beanzzz1 is living in another world. Living here is not how (s)he describes it. I was also in the first wave of people who moved in and after dealing with Keith, I should have realized it wasn't going to be the best-run place to live. I have had a terrible problem with the people living above me for just about a year. Gail has done nothing to help me with it - she did write them a letter, but after being screamed at over the phone (yes, I heard the whole conversation of this woman screaming at her), she dropped the whole issue. Guess she didn't want to be listening to all the f-bombs that are part of this woman's usual conversation. I agree with some other writers that the type of person renting here has definitely gone down. I walk a little quicker to the front door on some days/nights now. Questionable people are often hanging around outside now. Anyway, I could go on but would just be repeating what others have said. On the surface this place looks great but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. And I'm moving in a month so am very happy. more

beauty is only skin deep..... 5/25/2011

i too am leaving ESL. As has been said, the apartments look great, i was fooled too. since i moved in a year ago the quality of life here has plummeted. I have to agree that as nice as she may be Gail is not a qualified Assistant Property Manager. on more than one occasion i have brought to her attention the beetles that are often buzzing through my apartment, i brought her samples in a baggie so that they may be identified and properly exterminated; she can't stand bugs and wanted nothing to do with them or addressing my concern. over the months our artist in residence has graced us with grafitti in the stairwells, the penis seems to be the subject of interest. when someone vomited in the elevator it was never cleaned up, carpet freshener powder is sprinlked on the spot every so often. Mario works so hard but needs a staff to keep up with maintenance on this place. for the rent paid and the fact that ESL was advertised as ""luxury living"" you'd expect at least responsive if not pro-active management. it seems they don't care about the property so long as they can collect rent; these days most residents have no respect for common areas nor care to be good neighbors. snow plowing....it did eventually happen but the witless driver plowed several cars in making a bad situation worse. i could go on but i think by now you get the idea. don't rent here if you don't absolutely have to. buyer beware! more

DON'T Rent Here 3/9/2011

Don't rent here. The apartments are beautiful. Not your usual rental look. But look out...... more

hate this place 3/6/2011

it seems like a nice place. you can hear everyones conversation, office never open, kids running around, rude people down the pool. this place sucks and i am so happy i moved out. Gail is so usless she cant help you with anything. would never recommend this place at all. more

looks nice, but is definitely not nice 2/24/2011

This place leaves a great first impression, large apartments, 2 bathrooms, laundry in unit, but unfortunately once you get over the initial response this place goes downhill fast. One of the 3 exercise machines was broken when I moved in, and the other two were quick to follow. The walls are not insulated at all, I could participate in conversations from my bedroom with the people in the hall, also from my bathroom with the people in the hall or upstairs. The wall issue also means that the heating system doesn't work very well, not to mention the windows, which were brand new when we moved in, are drafty and cheap, the springs in about half of them failed so the top sash would sag, letting all the heat out at the top of the window, which is hard to notice until you pull back the blinds and look at the very top of the window, but why would you ever do that. As another reviewer said, I could also hear the people upstairs take a pee, watch tv, and scream at each other all night. The management is essentially useless. I found most of them friendly but ineffective, and the property manager Keith is never on site, while the assistant property manager Gail claims that nothing is her responsibility and we'll have to wait for Keith (who never shows up). It took us a week to get a lightbulb changed in our living room, we couldn't do it ourselves because the cheap lighting fixture does not come apart to reveal the bulb without excessive ""working"", and we did not want to break it and have to replace it. Mario, the maintanance guy, seems to do everything, even answers the phone in the office, and he was always friendly and helpful I just wish he didn't have to do everyone's job! The snow removal was just a joke, complete BS and waste of time. It would have been easier to get around the parking lot if they hadn't done anything with the snow! While I have nothing against dogs this place is not designed to accomodate dogs, there is no run, not even a grassy area to do their business, so they end up going all over the mulch in the ""courtyard"" which just sits because there's no plants to absorb it. Consequently you can't open your windows without getting the lovely smell of dog excrement blowing into your apartment (it's tolerable in the winter, horrendously disgusting and overpowering in the summer). To sum up, just don't even bother looking here. It is esthetically nice, but in every other way total crap. I'm so disappointed that the ""experienced developers"" who renovated this beautiful old factory did such a shot-y job on a project that had so much potential. more

Loud, Lies, Office is no help 2/24/2011

Moved in a year ago loved the look of the apartment. Then we moved in and everything changed. The office was supposed to be open most nights, so we could get packages and if we had any problems. Nope they changed their hours to leave before anybody got home from work. You speak to the head person in the office (Gail) and she is rude and always always says it isnt her job (though she is listed as the assistant property manager). Kids run up and down the halls, when a hallway door closes our whole apartment would shake and everything on the walls would rattle. It hasnt been around that long and almost all the ""gym"" (three machines) equipment was broken. The pool was closed for two+ weeks because they didnt file the proper paperwork. The walls are paper thin. If you are in a room next to your neighbors aparment you can hear them in the next room verbatim. (Gotta love the couples with the screaming fights and slamming doors) There are tons of ghetto wannabe white kids trying to act all tough all the time. Even saw a few fights in the parking lot. They hired horrible plow people this winter and when brought to the managements attention they blamed the tenants for not doing enough???!!!??? The only shinning light in the whole place is the maintenence man (Mario), who is very kind and extremely helpful. more

Not a total hellhole, but it's getting on my nerves. 2/10/2011

Wouldn't say this place is the total abomination that others here have (I actually kinda liked the place at first), but I've been here over a year and I'm ready for a change. more

RUN 12/30/2010

RUN AWAY from this place. it is the WORST. 5 days since snowstorm and still no plow. i have pictures. this place is patetic. overprised and lame. drafty windows. no privacy. way too loud. hope you like your neighbors because they are in every room of your place if they even breath. i wouldn't wish this on my worse enemy. RUN AWAY. i wish i could close my windows to keep out the cold that jacks my bill up. more

Read these reviews, they are right! Dont rent here! 11/12/2010

I am outraged at beanzz1 's review. He or she is entitled to their opinion but it seems so out of place. It was so not my experiance at Emerson that I came here to write a review, and I never write reviews. more

bad reviews are false this is a great place!!!!! 11/7/2010

These other reviews are all false! There are 3 bad reviews out of over 100 tenants in this building so that should tell you something. We have been here for 9 months and I have had no complaints. Apartment buildings are what they are as far as some kind of noise but, it is not excessive just your average. I was so grateful we could have our dog here a lot of places don't allow them. There are no dogs running loose and I have'nt seen pitbulls here. There is no mold in the pool and the pool is spotless so is the rest of the building. We are grateful that there are no extra fees to use these amenities. Most places that have a pool and gym charge extra they don't. This building is a little over a year old so everything is brand new and the people that take care of this building maintenance and management are the kindest most down to earth people. They will do anything for you!! I know a lot of tenants here and they are most respectful and kind. They have'nt dropped their standard of tenants by any means. The people that live here are down to earth and respectful of the property and other tenants and that includes myself. I feel like this is my home and the people that live here and manage this place have made me feel this way so as far as renting here I would recommend you do if you want to live in a place that is down to earth and ""CLEAN"". Your dog could swim in the pool if they where allowed. Parties and drug deals in the parking lot must be happening in another parking lot because they are'nt here. The recreation room has materialized and there is nothing unfinished here. There are no pathetic management personell that work here either. RENT HERE you will love it. We do and I can find the negatives in anything but, I have'nt found them here at Emerson Shoe Lofts. more

Do Not Rent Here! 7/11/2010

We were in the first 10 to move in here in July 2009. Oh the grand building it was going to be. It seems they couldn't get the class of folk they wanted so they dropped their standards to the lowest level. Now we have pit bulls running around off leash. Loud parties everynight, drug deals in the parking lot constantly, nothing that was promised ever materilized. No game room as promised and I wouldn't allow my dog to swim in the pool. It is the worst apartment I have ever lived in.. The management in Keith and Gail is simply pathetic. Do yourself a favor and stay real clear of this dump! Pros: Nothing Cons: Dangerous gangs, drugs, stabbings, poorly buily, horrible more

Moldy Gym & Pool Area 2/11/2010

We were one of the first tenants to move into the newly renovated lofts. Prior to moving in we were promised that the pool, gym and rec room would be ready. Well this was false. The pool wasn't ready for another three weeks, the gym not for another month and the rec room has yet to be created. Not only do they not fulfill promises there is now a mold problem developing in the fitness area. I've expressed by concerns about potential health risks, but it is brushed off by management. They also charge outrageous fees for the on site storage ($50). These are rooms that the did an even worse job restoring and other wise sit empty. Additionally, they do not remove snow from the side walks. We are forced to walk in the streets with the risks of being hit by on coming traffic. Also the windows are drafty causing increased heating bills to an already high rent for a small place. We were blinded by promises when we moved and are now stuck until the middle of the year. Pros: Granite counters, washer/dryer in unit Cons: mold in fitness area, thin walls, drafty windows more

Thin walls Terrible neighbors 1/12/2010

Haven't had a consistent few days of sleep since we moved in October 2010. Floors are creaky and any movement upstairs is extremely noticeable. Neighbors on both sides have little yelping dogs, upstairs neighbors stay up to 4am occasionally on weekdays loudly talking running about. Building complex plans show billiards room and Ping Pong table which have not been provided. I have been using ear plugs to sleep everynight and rarely make it through a single night without waking to yelling or stomping. Have talked to each neighbor on several occasions but problems continue to arise. I cannot wait to close on my house so I can get away from this place. It seems to be a magnet for incredibly inconsiderate people without jobs. Pros: granite, exposed beam Cons: Loud, Thin walls, dog poo, bad neighbors more
