Best

With one exception everythign I ever ate at Elmo's was delicious. I can't say enough good things about the turkey and gravy plate. They'll gladly substitute fries for mashed pot...

Worst

Is that what they call home fries? (Chopped up potatoes with no spices, thrown in a deep frier.) The food is not good and that's all I can say.

Elmo's is fantastic 10/28/2002

I alway recieve speedy service the people at front are always nice to me and although the food is not always to everyones liking, the atmosphere always is. Although you can't make reservations, it makes every one seem as important as the next. The wait can be lenghty but I would say that it is wort it. When you become a regular there is nothing better, they treat you liek family, they exceeded my expectations. Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly atmosphere, Everyone is having fu Cons: Usually Crowded, Parking not so great, Could be bigger more

excellent waffles anytime 10/24/2002

I had breakfast at Elmo's after regular breakfast hours. They served up an excellent waffle cooked to perfection, light golden, and kept my coffee cup full.I would recommend Elmo's in Carrboro,NC for when you're in the area.As an added attraction, the waffle came with a slice of orange and green leafy thing on the plate. Pros: good coffee, patio or inside dinin Cons: sometimes crowded, Sunday has wait lines more

Consistent Bargain 10/11/2002

My partner and I eat at the Elmo's in Durham at least three times a week. Usually dinner one night and breakfast/brunch on both Saturday and Sunday. We love Cammie. I recommend the chicken caesar salad, the cheeseburger, the veggie burrito, the hummus platter, any of the pancakes, the quiche, the Eno river mudpie, .... I need to stop. The variety and quality of those items is amazing. Finicky eaters are pleased. Let's just say that I have never had a bad meal there, and I have always felt like I was fairly charged or undercharged for what I got. One of the marks of a great restaurant-no matter what the price point-is consistency. The food at Elmo's is always great-tasting, quickly served, and inexpensive. Pros: Consistent, Variety, Friendly Cons: The cornbread more

Cheap eats? You got it! 10/3/2002

Elmo's Diner is a great place to catch a good cheap meal. It's been a Chapel Hill native ""secret"" but the word got out.... There's a Durham location on ninth street too. Good food at VERY reasonable prices. Great milkshakes too. Come as you are atmosphere. more

Good breakfast 10/3/2002

Nice place for breakfast and good pancakes. great for coffee drinkers. Pros: good pancakes Cons: long wait more

Our kind of place. 9/15/2002

One of our grandson's favorite restaurants...any time of day or night. My wife likes the big breakfast (don't remember what it's called on the menu), Christopher, 5, likes the kid pancakes, and I love the Elmo's Big Burrito. Great prices, kid friendly, and we don't feel like we're being rushed, like a big chain restaurant. Our kind of place. Pros: kid-friendly, breakfast at night, made to order Cons: no seats/waiting area, no reservations more

the best for a budget 8/30/2002

Elmo's has killer blueberry pancakes. The rest of their food is pretty good too. It's a great place for students because the prices are reasonable. You can get veggies, burgers, salads, breakfast, whatever you want. Go early on Sunday because it gets very crowded for brunch. If it's crowded and you're alone or with one other person, ask to sit at the counter. Pros: Inexpensive, Variety more

ugh. 8/22/2002

i don't know if i caught this place on an off day but it was the worst and it was in no way, shape or form was the bill ""cheap"". the chicken dumplings were made from canned chicken and it tasted like it sat around for days. if more people would boycott places with bad food maybe the owners/managers would take a hint and get some real grub in there. more

Consistently great service and food 8/14/2002

As far as diners go, Elmo's is great. Staff is always fast, friendly and accomodating, the food is great from the sandwiches, to the pita/humus to the burgers to the burritos and the chocolate chip cheesecake is our favorite in the area and worth the trip alone. more

solid 7/28/2002

solid food and generally friendly wait staff. i think it's gone downhill slightly over the years but I still go when I need a basic square meal Pros: price, open later than most more

Southern Breakfast Eats in Mall 7/26/2002

Good old American breakfast, with Southern specialties available. GRITS ROCK!!! And the food doesn't taste like it's made with ancient oil, mouldering in drippy fryers (typical diner taste), it's clean-tasting and yummy. Recommend those turkey sausage links and the blueberry waffle... very satisfying. Pros: great breakfast, nice ambience, good service Cons: difficult to park, waiting list more

A fine burger! 7/22/2002

I had always heard that Elmo's had a great burger, and after experiencing the ""Elmo burger,"" I heartily agree. Slopped high with cheddar cheese, griilled onions, and mushrooms this is definitely the best burger in the area. They also serve breakfast all day long, along with a variety of other good eats typical to a diner-type restaurant. Highly recommended! Pros: burgers, breakfast all daylong, service more

Delicious Brunch 7/19/2002

I love their brunch on the weekends, great omelettes, waffles and endless cups of coffee. GREAT SERVICE. Pros: Food, service, free coffee whilewait Cons: sometimes crowded more

Diner! 7/5/2002

Excellent food offerings made with excellent ingredients. Although advertised as a place good for kids, it can turn into a zoo with too many rug rats in tow. Go for breakfast or homestyle cooking anytime. more
