My order was delivered sooner than expected, a good thing since I was about to eat the menu. The food was hot and tasted great. I will use them again!

The nachos and empanadas are still as tasty as I remember but that salsa was questionable. There was apparently some chemical reaction going on in the container because the lid repeatedly kept popping off. Even days later in the fridge. Beware the salsa... more

People that have written sub par reviews are crazy. This place is great! Traditional Mexican for sure. Atmosphere was great, service was good.\r \r Check them out if you are in the mood for Mexican! more

Just ate at El Ranchero for the first time -- one of the best lunches I've had in a long time. I ate the tacos with grilled beef; my wife had the chicken enchiladas with mole; and we shared an order of the shrimp quesadillas. I was really impressed with each dish, but I'd have to say that my wife's order -- the chicken enchiladas with mole -- was amazing. I definitely recommend El Ranchero. I'm not sure why some people are giving it such tough and -- in some cases -- impolite reviews. more

took them 1 hour to deliver our food here at work and they did not bring the sodas we had ordered. we ordered 4 and they gave us a hassle to return our money. stating the driver had given us the sodas. never going to order from there again. more

I ordered my food to be delivered to my office. It took them over an hour just to get me the food. I ordered it at 11:20am and it finally got to my office at 1:30PM. Poor Service! Will never order from them again. more

I'd be rating thumbs down if the food wasn't superior, but that seems to be the only thing they have going for them. First of all, let it be known: delivery is NOT FREE. There are extra fees in addition to an automatic %18 gratuity added. I still can't believe they advertise that it's free. Also, they're slow, and one time they got my order wrong. (Plus they don't answer their phone most of the time.) more

How can you call the delivery free with an automatic 18% gratuity? more

Food took an hour and 20 minutes to come and when it did it was soggy and cold. Tried calling the restaurant and they didn't answer. Even fresh it would be just mediocre tex-mex food. more

I looked forward to seeing El Ranchero on the Eat24hours website, but am very disappointed. I can deal with the $20 minimum, but an automatic %18 gratuity for delivery? Sorry, no thanks!! more

Interesting Mexican Restaurant 4/6/2010

After leaving El-Ranchero I am still undecided on my experience there. A few friends of mine suggested we stop by their $1 taco night. Moments before walking inside my friend leans over and says ""We brought our own hot sauce because you definitely need to put something on the tacos to make them go down"". I am not sure if that should have been my first indicator that these were probably $1 for a reason. The restaurant itself feels more like a shack tucked away in a less traveled area of Ballston. To my surprise the place was packed with people. I am not sure if it was the $1 tacos that led everyone there or if there is some secret item on the menu that everyone craves but that was not what I expected. A slight catch on the $1 tacos is that they are hardshell only. Not being the biggest fan of hardshell tacos, I already had a chip on my shoulder for the evening. The frozen margaritas for $4 were definitely worth the cost and were quite tasty...even if they did come from a frozen ICEE machine. My group decided to order some guacamole to help with the taste of the tacos....big mistake. The guacamole not only needed salt but tasted as if it was frozen and dethawed. After smothering our tacos in hot sauce (our own of course because there is only one bottle to share between the whole restaurant otherwise), guacamole, and salsa they weren't tooo bad...however, I probably could have gotten a slightly better taco at taco bell for the same price. I am not completely giving up on this place. I would even like to go back and try one of their other dishes, however, after leaving El Ranchero for my first visit I most likely will not be recommending it to anyone else. Pros: Cheap Cons: shack style restaurant, $1 not even worth their price more
