Okay, so first of all the food in question is actually traditional Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine with some Spanish (Spain) and American foods thrown in the mix...it is NOT Mexican. Just had to clarify that.
As for the previous reviewers complaint about service, while I have experienced new servers being a little slow or not in-the-know (I go there often when the place isn't busy which seems to be the time that most of the new servers are put on the floor for training); I've never had a problem such as the one she's described. The place is also pretty nice on the inside with an old fashioned wooden bar, exposed brick walls, framed vintage posters, and dim (but not too dim) lighting.
My favorite dish is the Fillet Mignon with Shrimp which comes with a nice side of roasted red potatoes and other steamed vegetables. The Paella is very large in portion size and huge in terms of flavor and beauty of presentation. Their Salmon fillet is also excellent as are their appetizer sized Mofongo with Shrimp. Other noteworthy items are the Pernil and Stuffed Chicken Breast (with Shrimp). They also have a great selection of beers and a killer Sangria that my family always gets pitcher after pitcher of whenever we go.
I'd stay away from their Cuban sandwich, and anything Italian that you may find on the menu. This is where you come if you want traditional Latin food (especially seafood) so don't expect their Italian foods to be as good as they are at your favorite Italian restaurant.
I have to say, even though the place isn't perfect in terms of service I think that one's experience at this restaurant could vary depending on how issues with the food if something goes wrong are handled. I have had food come in undercooked and had no issues with waiters heating anything up for me, I've also had other complaints that, when addressed with the floor manager in a tactful and non-confrontational matter had been resolved with no issue. I've been going there for years and will continue to do so for many more for excellent food at great prices and I encourage everyone I know who may be interested to check it out.
Pros: The Fillet Mignon w/Shrimp, Paella, Pernil, Mofongo
Cons: A little small.
