El Azteca Mexican Restaurant

I use to really enjoy going to the place and USE TO recommend it to friends. We went often. The food was decent and fresh. Service was always so-so, but the food used to be worth it. But things have gone down hill in the last several months The last 3 times we were in the place,(on a weeknight) one of the waitresses had her 2 yr old son in the dining room of the restaurant and she allows him to roam and play, jump in the booths with patrons, eat from their chip bowl, and the whole time, she just smiles at him. This was the case the last time we were there and I couldn't wait to get out. Then came the clincher. Right before she brought our check, a COCKROACH climbed up the wall next to our table. That's enough for me - I am outta there more

The food here is well prepared and plentiful it is reasonable and there are often coupons in the shoppers guide or clipper to make it more of a bargain. I really enjoyed the chicken enchiladas. Conviently located off 73 good for take out and catering as well as a quick meal. more

We have been regulars of El Azteca for at least five years, always enjoying the good food and huge menu. Last Tuesday we were seated by a host at a booth where the restaurant employees are usually seated. If you are a regular you know it is located toward the right rear. The booth was filthy- the walls covered in food spatter, fruit flies on the wall and the screen behind the booth. I called the manager over to see, and his response was "the next time don't sit there" as it is too close to the kitchen and the breakdown station. His that the files are coming from an area so close to the kitchen has us concerned, so the next time we won't sit there, we will sit in another restaurant. more

I like El Azteca a lot. They're in the Ramblewood strip mall across Route 73 from On the Border. The food here is very well priced, and I think it is not too Americanized. The staff are okay, the food is tasty. However, remember that the portions are huge! And if you aren''t a fan of beans, don't eat here. I had so much beans to eat when I dined here. I loved their tamale and chimichanga. (I think that's what the dishes were called.) The tacos were a bit too cheesy and weren't that great. I agree with the other reviewers: this place has little decor. I've never tried the desserts or drinks, though: I was too full to eat another bite! Parking isn't any trouble. I would definitely bring a family. more

The fried ice cream is a sure fire hit with the kids!! more

El Azteca is a good mexican restaurant located in a strip mall. The atmosphere is so-so, but the food is usually very good. This restaurant is a BYOB restaurant, and if you bring the tequila, they have the margarita mix for you (for a fee). Leave room for the fried ice cream for dessert. more
