Nice spa located on East Bay St in Downtown Charleston. Has been around for many years and while I thought it was rather upscale when it first opened in the mid-90’s, I’ve noticed a decline in the attention paid to the “little things” in the last few years. Example, something as simple as stains on the carpet and peeling paint in the ‘waiting area’. Kind of detracts from the overall feel when such things (which were never there before) suddenly show up and aren’t dealt with. Also, in the last few years, the staff seems to have gone from “nice and approachable” to “snooty until they can ascertain your yearly salary by looking at your shoes”. They have a decent selection of services available, some are very affordable and reasonable, and others are rather overpriced, considering the ‘ambiance’ of the spa itself. Certainly have seen better services offered at much more relaxing settings at much more affordable prices at other spas not only in Charleston, but throughout the country as well. Still not a bad place to go, and well established in the community. Marginally recommended. more

...er, queen. Earthling is still a great place to go and get a spa treatment, although other newer and more innovative companies have opened in the last few years. I enjoy their staff, who are always friendly and seem really interested in you and your needs. Every time I go there I seem to get more of a massage than I paid for, which is great---no complaints on that end, but try not to schedule something for RIGHT after your massage because you may be getting out a few minutes later than you planned on. Also, once when I was getting a massage, the masseuse asked if I wanted them to pluck my eyebrows, and I said "sure". SHe told me it would be $24, and I thought that was for both brows---nope, that's PER brow. So that was definitely a shock to my system when I was told I had to pay $50 for an eyebrow treatment that was really spur of the moment. Oh well, learn from my mistakes. more

Nice Locally-Owned Spa in Charleston 9/9/2005

It seems that gift certificates for Earthling Day Spa are required for anyone having a birthday, getting married, or graduating from high school. At least that's when I got all of mine, plus a few extras thrown in over the years for just being a great person (at least that's my assumption). The GC's are nice. They're on parchment paper and rolled up to look like a scroll--much more personal than the plastic cards that are so popular these days. The spa is very nice, very quiet, and very intimate. During the times that I've visited, the 30 minute massages lasted 45, the 45-minute massages lasted 60, and the 60 minute massages lasted an hour and fifteen. Not bad! I've also gotten the best facial in the world, the best manicure in the world, and the best pedicure in the world there. I wish there was more parking (They're in the shopping center with Eckerds and Blockbuster Video). Can be a bit daunting to find parking during a busy Saturday afternoon. Book early because they book up fast. And buy some of their good smelling lotions and potions. They're expensive, for sure, but consider a $45 lipstick as a "personal reward" for being the wonderful soul that you are. more
