Steer clear of this place 1/18/2010

This place was a HUGE disapointment! We went in and there were only about 10 others in the place.Three waiters walked by us and did not seem concerned about us.We sat there for about 20 minutes and we were never asked for an order. The floor was littered with peanut debris .There was also a BIG sign that says "No Cigar Smoking". You let people throw crap on the floor and smoke nasty ass cigarettes??? But no cigars. You sure wont have to worry about me visiting this place again.I didnt want to give this place any stars but it wouldnt let me. Pros: Last resort for a drink Cons: Do you have to ask??? more

Be Careful! 7/3/2009

We love the idea of a piano pub. Just be careful of when you visit. We have visited several times a year for the past 10 years. In the early years the piano players didn't change much. It seems over the past three years they keep changing piano players (makes you wonder why?). Some of the piano players are more risque than the other ones. We have NO problem when songs or jokes have sexual innuendos but when they are blunt and disgusting and then you throw in some cursing the piano player has crossed the line. Calling beforehand to see whose playing. Avoid going when Keith is playing. And the Guiness flows freely here so try it - it won't be staggnant like other places. Pros: Live Music, Right on Riverwalk, Flowing Guiness Cons: Adult Material, Sometimes NC-17 Rated more

big let down 3/23/2009

We came from out of town and went because it was St. Patrick's Day. Smelled like poop-can't imagine anyone actually eating here-especially since the menu I saw listed $15 for a burger! We just wanted to sing one song with the piano player...which we did as we drank overpriced, weak drinks. Loved the handlebar mustach on the waiter! Sorry, that wasn't enough to get over the smell of feces. Pros: right on riverwalk Cons: smelled like sewage! 'nuff said more

Most fun on the Riverwalk!!! 9/27/2008

My girlfriends and I just returned from a trip to San Antonio and the entertainment at Durty Nelly's was the most fun we had!!!! The crowd is fun, but it's super crowded so service can be a little slow. But the piano player makes it worth the wait! We were there for a few nights and the Bruce Willis lookalike on Fridays is the best. He seemed to know thousands of songs and was hilarious! We'll be back down and this pub will be on our list of must-dos..... more

A Must see on the Riverwalk! 8/24/2008

You have to stop by Durty Nelly's it is fun and entertaining, enjoy a beer and sit around listening to the Piano Man! You can request songs or just laugh along with everyone else as your singing and chilling out in this fun bar! If you don't stop by you will regret it! You are sure to take away good memories by stopping by! Pros: Entertainment! Cons: None more

MOST FUN ON THE RIVERWALK!!!! 10/26/2007

My wife and I have lived here for three years now and unfortunately we are about to transfer back to Seattle, WA. but we have really enjoyed our visits to Durty Nelly's Irish Pub and we will never forget it. I would take a vacation just to come back. By the way, the piano player who looks like Bruce Willis's name is Kevin. Great place, great guy! Everyone who has come to visit us during our stay in San Antonio has fallen in love with the place including my in-laws (in their 70's). It's a bit raunchy sometimes but I think the piano player knows every fight song from every college in the nation and every military theme song. If you are here, visit, stay, drink some beer, have some peanuts but above all, have fun! Pros: Definitely Thumbs up! Cons: A little slow in the mid afternoon more

IT'S A MUST! 8/27/2005

We love this place. It is the best bar we have EVER been too. We live in Austin and whenever we get a chance, we make a trip to San Antonio to Durty Nellies! Usually on fridays they have a piano player that looks JUST like bruce willis who is awesome and plays all the crowd favorites plus a few new ones. Usually on saturday nights they have a guy who is more into doing 'durty' jokes. We always call ahead and make sure the bald 'bruce willis' guy is there. He is absolutly awesome. We can spend the whole night there without a problem at all.... there is NO REASON to go anywhere else! If you are in town, this pub is an absolute must! Pros: Great atmosphere, great drinks, great food! Cons: Nothing!! more

Best Piano Bar ever 3/2/2004

Durty Nelly's is the best piano bar I have ever been to. I never go to San Antonio without stopping there. Unfortunately a lot of other people feel the same. It does get crowded! Pros: Atmosphere, Live entertainment, Peanuts more

BEST PIANO BAR 11/26/2002

Durty Nellys is truly one of the best piano bars in the country. We've had more fun there over the past 20 years than in any other bar in San Antonio. Bill Bailey and Steve Palmer have played piano there since the 70's, now joined by Don Johnston and Jeff Spence. Check it out. Fun bar ! Pros: Great location, talented entertainers, good food & drink Cons: parking, rowdy weekends more

Great place to listen to the Piano Man!! 6/15/2002

My wife and I have enjoyed visiting Durty Nelly's pub since we first found it about 2 years ago. Steve, the Piano Man, knows us and plays our songs eveytime we request them. Of course, he won't do it witout the tip. If you want to gather some friends together for some sing alongs Irish style, this is definetly the place to go. Pros: Close parking Cons: A little too tiny more

  • In Short
Despite the name, you don't have to be Irish to enjoy Durty Nelly's. This drinking establishment is widely known for having one of the best beer selections in San Antonio. Situated on the Riverwalk, Durty Nelly's attracts quite a bit of pedestrian traffic ready for a cold one; consequently, it can be very busy during the tourist season. It also fills up quickly on regular weekends, so be sure to get there early.
