The staff is courteous and friendly. That is good. The haircut was good. That was great. The pedicure was lacking. It was soak, clip, polish and be gone. No relaxing massage for my feet or legs. The massage is the reason I go for a pedicure. I can do my own polish. For $35 you would expect a first class pedicure. It was not that and that is too bad. Pros: null Cons: null more

Well, the story starts in Christmas 2006 when I bought my mother a SpaFinders gift certificate. She gave it to me back for Christmas 2009!! A little upset, but now eternally grateful, I debated whether to use the gift for a very much desired massage or a spend it on something longer-lasting like a new hair cut or color. May 2010 rolls around and I work up enough guts to use the gift to cut my VERY LONG hair the way my friends have been begging me. I decided to go to Dupre's for a haircut. With only $50 on the card, I call the salon to schedule an appt. They had two appts available for the timeframe I was looking for, but the stylists were $20 different in price. I booked for the cheaper of the two being the tightwad I am. Then I went on-line to their website to checkout who was the crafter of my hopefully-not-a disaster. I read the bios of both stylists and quickly decided to switch my appt to the more experienced and expensive of the two. (Not that the other wasn't worth it, but I was VERY nervous about cutting my hair and decided it would be beneficial to go ahead with the stylist who specializes in the cut I was aiming for and who was a master stylist. I figured I might as well spend more to get it done PERFECTLY.) 10:30 AM on Friday quickly approached, with everyone of my friends more excited than I pathetically trying to hype up my nerves and rid me of the anxiousness. The place was BEAUTIFUL from the outside-in. The front desk staff were pleasant and never without a smile. Soon enough, I was greeted by a familiar face (from the photo on the website) with a name attached to it of "Matt." I tried to hide my nervousness but Matt was VERY kind and worked well with me and gave me confidence. He understood my anxiety and read my mind and cut my Rihanna-wanna-be asymmetrical inverted bob longer than the picture I had brought in. When he was finished, I was delighted that it looked a lot better than I thought it would. After going to work and showing off my new 'do at home to my friends, I actually gained MORE guts and to cut off more in the back to look more like the bob I was too scared to get! I'm never one to go back, but my friends encouraged me to do so. I'm so glad I did. I loved the way Matt did my hair the first time around and I did NOT want him to think I hated it by coming back. I just simply gained courage to get it cut even more. I called back on Saturday to see if there was anything Dupre's could do, and you'll never guess. THEY SAID I COULD COME BACK FREE OF CHARGE!! So I did. I met Matt again (who I assume allowed me to do this) and he's so great. He looked at my hair and went through it and cut it, blew it dry, AND flat ironed it and DIDN'T CHARGE ME A THING. (Of course I left him a little something afterward..) but I think the biggest tip he got was my best friend setting an appt with him right after I was done with my fixup! Matt is the best, and whenever I'm ready for keeping this 'do up, or changing it, I will definitely be going back. They do a lot of things there, Suki even introduced herself to me and gave me one of her cards to visit her at the Spa upstairs. Though I haven't had a chance to visit their spa, I know I will be there eventually. Now, a review of the facility and staff: You already know my feelings for Matt as my stylist. I would go to him again and again. The front desk was very nice and after the first cut, they made me feel like a model or a star. They expressed their enthusiasm for the wonderful job Matt did. However, there was one instance when I was in the chair that another stylist was working on another customer. I guess someone had called out of work (again) and the other stylist unprofessionally started to gossip about the caller-outer. I could have done without that in my experience. A pro? The fully stocked (and gorgeous looking) mini-fridge in the waiting area! I also like that they carry Bare Escentuals - no one knows this but I hated them automatically taking from my bank account and shipping me stuff. Now I can support my favorite Salon and purchase products there! I do wish they enhanced their variety in services to the numerous ones they offer now- which I'm sure in time they will. I'm speaking more in the terms of - I went to look on the site to see if they had they offered eyelash extensions and they don't - yet. I would like to see that offered as well as acryllics and more of a nail salon. Even if they never offer those services, I would still do business there! more

I went to Carrie for four years for my coloring and styling. She is amazingly talented. I never once left with something I did not like! I am sad that I had to move out of the area and can no longer go to her. I also received a few manicures and pedicures and eyebrow waxing from the spa as well and was always very pleased. I highly recommend this salon and spa! Pros: Everything! Cons: Can be pricey more

No matter who you see at Dupres, you can be rest assured you are going to look and feel the best you ever have. I have been going there for years and am amazed at the beautiful and natural looking hair color. The girls are professional and up to date with the latest trends (it seems like they are always taking new classes in New York and Las Vegas). I almost cant believe anyone would give them a low rating! (I mean seriously, who would bring their four year old daughter AND friend to get highlights??? Not to mention, if it took 5 hours there must have been some seriously thick hair!) Regardless, I love the Dupres and they will continue to do my hair and spa services til I die!! (or move out of state..haha) more

The staff at Dupre's is very talented, but like another reviewer stated- great talent does not compensate for poor customer service. Pros: great colorists and stylists Cons: long time in the chair (5hrs.)!!! more

From the moment that I walked in until I left, I was greeted by a professional, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. I went for a facial and microdermabrasion, the expierence was GREAT! My face looks and feels the best it has in years. The service was so good I left there only after I made two more appointments, one for a hair cut and one for a massage! more

I have been to Dupre's a few times. The staff is very warm and welcoming. I have had nothing but the best expierences. I have had my hair cut and colored in the salon with no problems. They even fixed problems from my old hairstylist. Sumi is the best for anything facial. She has done a beautiful job on getting my skin correct for my upcoming wedding. I would highly recommend Sumi for any spa service. She did a wonderful job with my microdermabrasion and purity peel. She even recommended a facewash to help with my acne prone skin. (which has worked wonderfully) With people like Sumi and the front desk staff, I will continue to go to this hidden gem at the beach. Pros: ambience, staff, service Cons: parking can be limited sometimes more

I've only gotten two good haircuts my entire life--one was in New York with Nick Arrojo, and the second was in Virginia Beach with Sarah at Dupre's. She is terrific. Both stylists used a razor to cut my hair, and I am convinced that that is the key to cutting curly hair correctly. Sarah does a fantastic job, I can't recommend her or her salon highly enough. Another reviewer said it was expensive, I didn't think so--it was only $50 for a shampoo, condition, cut, style, and blow dry. The place was clean and very nice, and they offered me a drink when I entered the salon. I am definitely going back. more

I was new to the area and my sister-in-law reccommended this salon to me. I went for highlights and a haircut. The color was terrible. Instead of using foils, they painted the color on my hair (with an actual paintbrush). I was told that this was the newest and best technique for color. It looked terrible. I had big stripes of color all over my head and the color was a terrible orange color. It was completely unnatural. It looked ridiculous. And the price was extremely high (even for the area). This place is overpriced for no reason. They clearly have no idea what they are doing. Go somewhere else! more

I tried the a new stylist last week and couldn't be more pleased. I have very difficult hair and no one has ever been able to figure out the best cut for me. I tried Dupre's Salon b/c I heard from a coworker that they were good. I guess my timing was right b/c I got to try a stylist that had only been working there for 3 days. His name is Matt and he has been doing hair for years in Richmond. Finally, some one that actually gets my hair problems. For the past week my hair has done exactly what it should and I love having good hair days everyday. I totally rec. this stylist to anyone with trouble hair. Super friendly people work there! I had a stupid hard day and had to get my color done and was not in the mood for anything. To be honest, I almost cancelled b/c I just wanted to go home. But, from the minute I walked in the door I was greeted BY NAME (I have been there a few times prior) and offered a drink, which I gladly accepted. Nothing wrong with a glass of wine. My stylist was Michele and she was super nice. It is refreshing to go somewhere nice and chill and walk out happy. And my hair looks hot. Thanks! Pros: happy staff, very clean- great hair! Poor custom service doesn't make up for good hairstylist. My hairstylist, Sarah, was very good. I asked her only one question. Do you take the Discover card?. She checked with two different people who advised: yeah, and yeah I think so. The only credit card we don't take is American Express. I said Great! Having a great time until I got to front desk to PAY. Pulled out my credit card and was advised nooo we don't take that one. I advised was told they did. Manager came over said "the cards we take are on the door". So sorry I didnt analyze said door on arrival! They finally took my card.. I was so upset that I told receptionist to please cancel my follow up appointment. I hadn't even made 1 yet! Left a message for owner "Jay" don't expect to hear from him. RUDE service. I found Dupre's on the web and i must say i was a little nervous at first because i had just moved here into the area. i had been receiving my Brazilian wax back home in Arizona where there is NO water. since i would be living on the water now i would need them more regularly. A wonderful women named Helena helped me with my services and i couldn't have asked for a better experience. she was EXTREMELY professional and very polite. we were actually laughing during my service!! It's painful-sure... but if the right person is doing it and they are well educated the job is done quickly and it's over before you know it. I won't trust anyone else now to do my waxing for me. She's a great gal! I would also like to note that the person who wrote the review before about DON'T GET YOUR WAX HERE! Needs happy drugs...if i had waited that long to get my wax services done i'm sure it wasn't very pleasurable. Anyway, Helena's your girl to fix all your "too hairy" needs!! more

I just loved my massage with Amy! I am a massage therapist, so its hard to relax and just let go during a massage. I am always evaluating whats going on and if I like it or if I hate it. But, i have to say, wow! She was awesome! She listened to what was going on with me and really addressed those areas with total expertise. She was quiet/chatty when appropriate, and very easy to click with. Pros: Friendly staff. Expert employees. Upscale, yet comfortable. Cons: Make an appointment before you leave. They book up fast! more

DON'T GET A BRAZILLIAN HERE! Whatever you do--just don't do it. I have had hundreds of braz. waxes but have moved around and traveled alot so I haven't had the luxury of keeping my favorite waxer from Chicago. This wax however, ranks as one of the worst braz. I've EVER had. If you've had one before you know what kind of intimacy to expect. ALL of your bits, front and rear, get waxed normally but the girl only did a frontal version of a true brazillian wax. She was afraid to touch me and at one point put wax on me with her other hand behind her back. Didn't make eye contact or conversation. I called ahead to make sure cream wax was used (was told it was) but durring the sesh she pulled out that horrible non-strip wax that hardens and gets pulled off alone with the hair. And she saved it for...yeah you guessed it... my labia!! She had poor waxing technique. Didn't taught my skin properly and left me bruised, didn't put her hand down on the just waxed skin to stop the burning sensation, left strips of hair near the creases and attempted to pull them out with tweezers until I had her stop. She put wax on an area she had waxed already which felt like burning lava. I yellped. I tried hard not to cry but tears leaked out the corner of my eyes anyways from the pain. I didn't have the courage to tell her she did a horrible job partly because I didn't know where to begin. I tried explaining some of this to the girl checking me out through my tears. She spoke with the manager who didn't even come to speak with me and said she could give me a discount. I would have rather payed nothing and accepted the excruciating pain as payment enough but it still cost me 50 bucks (only 25% off a half done job). I suppose part of the problem was that I didn't speak up but how do you say "you didn't wax my a*s cra*k" tactfully and in front of other customers. Perhaps you have more bal*s than I, though speaking up will not cure the pain. Heed this advice and don't go. Pros: swanky salon for haircuts Cons: bad brazillians more

I've been going there for about 7 months now. I haven't trusted my hair to anyone in 17 years because of a bad experience, but now I wouldn't trust my hair to anyone ELSE again. The pedicures were fabulous and I even tried the microderm abrasion and regular facials. For someone with extremely sensitive skin, who has trouble with these services, I saw that these facialists know what they're doing. more
