good work, good service 10/12/2010

I'm really happy that the closest (to my house) car repair place is so good -- especially with my VW Passat. My car is MUCH more reliable taking it to Du Fresne's rather than the dealership! more

Superb Customer Service 9/26/2010

Du Fresne Auto body shop is the easiest and best way to support local business. They have provided us with superb customer service every time we go- they even give us free coffee with every service and a ride back home if we have to leave our car there! My husband and I love and trust Du Fresne Auto and will continue to take our car there for any sort of service that it needs. We highly suggest this business to others in the neighborhood. more

Friendly, Honest & Skilled Repair and Service 9/11/2010

I consider myself to be an auto shop phobic, but since switching to Du Fresnes a few years back, all those fears have vanquished. Their service writer, Steve Lund, is super friendly (but never in a cheesy, pressuring, salesman way) is really knowledgeable, honest and calls all around town to get you the best price on parts. He goes over everything with you, makes only necessary recommendations, provides accurate estimates and never starts work with out getting permission. Like all their staff, highly trained technicians & owner, they are just good salt-of-the-earth people. more

good old fasioned service with a smile. 8/31/2010

I have been doing business with DuFresnes for over eight years now and have not one thing bad to say about them. They are wonderful, warm loving people who make you feel at home any time I am there. The work they provide is grade A and unquestionably the best. Very well trained and knowledgeable technicians in their field of work and only have your best interests in mind when repairing your vehicle. The parts and services they provide are great just like the employees. Go on and give them a try, you won't be disappointed. more

Mechanics you can trust! 7/4/2010

I just had a good deal of maintenance done on my car and couldn't have been happier. I felt like they only recommended things my car actually needed to have done and explained why they were necessary. They go out of their way to make sure I'm satisfied with the service and answer any questions or concerns I have! Pros: Friendly, Great service more

Dependable and Trustworthy! 5/31/2010

I have been visiting DuFresne's for over 4 years now. I even moved to St Johns and still make the drive over there to get my car serviced. I really appreciate that they explain the issues with my car and let me know what is an immediate fix and what can wait. It is also important to me to support a small locally owned family business. They treat me as a valued customer from coupons to free coffee. I absolutely trust my car to DuFresne's! Pros: Great customer service Cons: Cannot think of one right now... more

Great Service 5/27/2010

I have had great service at Du Fresne's Auto Body - getting car repairs is never something that puts a smile on my face, but they make it a manageable experience. They also provide the service of taking you to where you need to go (within reason) while your car is being serviced. Another plus is the coupon offers they have every month in their very fun and informative newsletter. Pros: Very personal, coupon offers more

Our new trusted mechanic! 5/19/2010

I took my 1996 Jeep Cherokee to DuFresne's when it started leaking anti-freeze and smoking. I was told I had a cracked radiator and was given a rough estimate. I called 3 other mechanics and one Jeep-specialty mechanic and DuFresne's was the best price. I was a bit nervous because I had always used my trusted ""Jeep-guy"" near my house. I went with price and got great service and quality, too! My car is running beautifully and I have found a new trusted mechanic! Pros: good communication, best price, good service more

Can't go wrong at Dufresne's 5/18/2010

I have been going to dufresnes since I moved to portland oregon from california. I learned about them when they sent me a welcome to the neighborhood letter. So I tried them and have never gone anywhere else. well I can't exactly say that. I recently took a trip to idaho and had a flat tire. wasn't to worried about going to a place i didn't know for a small item like this. I had changed my tire and was driving on the spare. I put in auto service in my gps and i found a place not to far from where I was at. The sign on the door said open at 8:00 am - great it was 8:30am. but the door was locked. So I waited around and 15 minutes later comes a guy with a key. HE told me I would have to wait outside till he got everything opened. so another 15 minutes goes by and finally he is taking my information. Then tells me i will have to wait because his mechanic is just a few minutes late. The mechanic should up a 1/2 hour later. the tire was finally fixed and i was on my way. It just reminded me why i go to dufresnes. Its like going to a doctor that actually has known you for years and you can tell that they the doctor really cares. That is the feeling i get everytime I walk in the door at dufresnes. They know my name and even my pets names. Did i mention they are dog friendly. not to many places are. I have gone thru a few cars since i started going to dufresnes and i honestly feel that I have gotten more money for my cars when i have sold them because they are in such great shape. I trust them completely. One time i knew I needed a new clutch. Even told Steve that I was getting myself prepared for the bad news. The next thing I know they are telling me my car was all done. They were able to adjust my clutch and when I sold the car 2 years later it was still going strong! Do yourself a favor and give them a try- Pros: Can't beat the customer service Cons: Wish they were open on sundays more

Best we've met 5/15/2010

Our customer relationship is in its 20th year, starting in 1991 with Boris the Taurus (we've an eccentric habit of naming our cars). After Boris went to one of our sons, Du Fresne's attended to Mary Lou the Subaru until she went on to another son. Now the focus is on Brian the Scion (aka Sweet Pea the xB). Pros: Professional & pleasant Cons: None yet more

Won't take my care anywhere else. 5/11/2010

I have been a client of Du Fresne's Auto for 12 years and never have I experienced what the previous reviewer experienced. That is why I am writting this review. I did receive the email he is speaking of and in the past have received similar emails from Du Fresne's. Their email are always specific about time, date and whether or not an appointment is necessary. As for paying people to say nice things about them (through their TV contest) Du Fresne's many times through the year has contests and games. I've won movie tickets, played Rock em Sock em Robots, donated food to the community food bank for free brakes and the list goes on and on. Pros: Shuttle Service Cons: Parking more

DuFresne's Best Kept Secret in NW Hills 5/10/2010

I have been going to DuFresne's for the last 8 years. I had been to many shops before. I could never find one that I felt they had my best interests at heart until I stepped in the door at DuFresne's. From the very first moment I knew I found a new home for my car repairs. More than once they have saved me money by pointing something out before I got stuck on the side of the road which would requite a tow bill and who knows what else. Pros: Repairs done right Cons: Usually have to make an appointment more

Go Anywhere Else -- Not Here!! 5/7/2010

I went to Du Fresne's a couple of times over the past few years and had work done that I felt was somewhat overpriced, but I wanted to support a local independent business. Then I needed new brakes and they tried to sell me $1600 ceramic brakes. Needless to say, I took my Camry elsewhere and had the work I actually needed done for a few hundred bucks. Then I get an email from them advertising a great deal on oil change, inspection, tire rotation, etc. I received the email the same morning of the one-day-only special. So I send my wife in with our infant daughter. She drives across town late morning, walks in carrying our daughter, and asks for the special. She's told she should have made an appointment, they are full and can't possibly squeeze her in because they send out over 800 emails and only have four technicians and can't do everyone. Don't they know the customer is always right? At least when she is a new mom, responding to an ad sent out that morning, and wanting to do business? Upon further review, the email did say call for an appointment in relatively fine print at the bottom, buried underneath some language about a 32"" flatscreen TV giveaway. You have to scroll way down to even find the phone number. If they had half a brain they could have earned a very happy and loyal customer by simply saying ""We're sorry, we can't do it today, but here's a certificate for the deal and please make an appointment at your convenience and we will honor our ad."" I heard about it, of course, and called in to complain, and the lady had the audacity to say I must be a very unhappy person. Nope -- just mad at you, Du Fresne's! Probably not a good idea to insult people calling with a problem, which is an opportunity to work things out. Could they be that dumb, or do they just not care? Either way, I will never return, and I demanded to be taken off the mail and email lists (no unsubscribe option in the emails). The next day I get another email about the TV giveaway which tries to bribe customers to write good reviews for a free TV. Pros: You don't have to go there Cons: Service is horrible, rude, way overpriced more

Compare prices 3/5/2009

I used Dufrenes for several years now on my three cars. I was relatively pleased with the service and attention and pleasantness of the crew. However, I noticed they cost a little more than other places. I never minded too much since they were an independent outlet and I believe in supporting the local businesses when possible. But, recently it got ridiculous. Went in to have oil changed. John called me to tell me I needed new tires and gave me an estimate. After calling around to compare prices, I found another dealer estimated almost $180 less than John did for the exact same tire model and services. I called John back to let him know that I would be going elsewhere, he proceeded to be pushy and tried to give me all this nonsense about the other place. He also gave me mixed messages about the tires I was getting. Initially he had good things to say about the ones he was quoting me, then afterwards told me that they were generic and wouldn't last as long as another more expensive brand that he was trying to push onto me. Beware. I've never had a problem with the personel until I had to deal with John. I think I'll be servicing my cars elsewhere for awhile. Pros: Convenient location for me Cons: Pricey more

Warning!!!! They will overcharge you. 8/25/2008

I came in with one problem on my car and then they billed me for other things that I didnt agree on.. Go somewhere else. Pros: Friendly Cons: Randomly charge more

Avoid the place 1/25/2008

We had a horrible experience; John treated us poorly and we were so over charged. The car still does not run. Cons: high price; rude employee more

Stop in for espresso, but not for auto repair!! 9/18/2006

My car broke down shortly after moving to Oregon. A friend recommended Dufresne's. Since I was new to the area, I took their advice. BIG MISTAKE! Pros: Convenient espresso stand Cons: Everything else! more

Consumer Beware 8/13/2006

I recently had my car serviced by DeFresnes auto service. They ran diagnostics and told me I needed several things done to my car so I went ahead and had the work done. It cost me 750.00 dollars. I picked the car up on a Saturday and on Monday I had my coolant leaking all over the ground. I took t back and they told me that I now had water pump problems and would need that replaced. No where was my water pumped mentioned in the prior report for what they told me I needed done, and just by coincidence my water pump fails two days after getting it back from have major repairs done. I found the coincidence hard to swallow. The fact that they flushed all my liquids, transmission, radiator, brakes etc. makes it hard to believe it happened out of the blue. They gave me do discount to replace the pump after jsut spending over 700.00 dollars and a poor explanation on top of it. So all I'm saying is buyer beware at DeFresne's auto repair. more
