I just returned to NYC after visiting Portland and I feel that a review is in order of this amazing experience. I enjoy a great spa experience when I am in a new city and feel that this spa deserves mention as one of the best places I have visited. It is chic, comfortable, and made this reviewer want to visit again when in Portland. It has a Soho feel, yet with spaciousness that is not available here. I was in for a facial and massage. I was new to Dosha as I was given a gift certificate. My facial and massage were wonderful. I would come back and tell all my friends that this was a great place. Unwelcome Greeting 1/13/2006

I had a gift certificate for a 1 1/2 hour massage. I arrived 30 minutes early because I did not wish to be late, and you never know about parking. When I checked in the icy receptionist said ""you're early"". I told her that I did not mind reading and relaxing, and she told me that I was ""really"" early and they had no where for me to be comfortable waiting. I should have left. The massage was mediocre and definately not worth the money. The person who gifted me with this massage also gave me another and I gave it away. Is is so hard to be nice? A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE 1/10/2006

i received a gift certificate for a day of treatments at dosha and chose to come to Hawthorne because i live near by. i had such a wonderful time, was treated so well by each person who i saw during the day, and loved the facility with its beautiful pool area and relaxing spa. there was never one time that i wanted anything that had not already been offered. dosha is my new home away from home. relaxation at it's best. Unfortunately I experienced the same thing. I asked for extractions and the girl told me they don't allow for those. A facial without getting out the gunk? It was relaxing and the hand and scalp massage was nice but seriously the price is way to high for something I could do myself at home. Facial was a complete waste of money 1/2/2006

I went into this salon looking forward to having a lovely facial. I lay down on the bed and the girl rubbed a mask on my face, stuck me under the steamer and proceeded to give me a 5 minute scalp rub (average quality) with lots of oil in my hair. I was under that steamer for ages thinking that I was going to pass out from the steam, and she didn't interact with me for at least 20 minutes. She then stuck ANOTHER mask on my face and then stuck me back under the steamer for another 20 min. Then she wiped off the mask and said that the facial was over. She didn't even put moisturizer or eye cream on me! I could have done more in my own home, using steam from my shower and my mud mask. I've had many facials and this was the worst. By Far the best 12/14/2005

This is bar far the Best Salon in Portland. I have been going there strongly for a year now, and highly recommend it to anyone. My hairdresser Phung (I think that is how you spell her name) is the best! Pros: Great people, Great Service, Head Massages Cons: none, None, none more

I enjoyed my day at Dosha so much! I have been to most of the spas in the Portland area and this was a huge notch above. Beautiful decor, a great massage from Jacqueline, caring people downstairs, all adding up to a really happy experience. My money was well spent here and i didn't feel overcharged like i did at other spas. I will be back to Dosha. more

The Best of SE Portland 3/31/2005

I have lived in the Hawthorne area for the past year. and there is a lot to enjoy about living near Hawthorne. It is funky but there are some really great places there. I received a gift of massage to dosha this past Christmas and had never been there. I was really surprised how welcoming and friendly staff was at this beautiful place. I hope the neighborhood keeps adding better places like Dosha. I was treated so well there and I will definitely go back. The spa is beautiful, the staff was nice and the lady who gave my massage was amazing. more

Unbeleivable!!! 3/24/2005

Never having had a massage before I had no idea what to expect.I was warmly greeted and felt at ease right away from the expert staff at the front desk.Once I was ready for my massage I was a bit nervous but Immediately that disappeared when I was greeted by my massage therapist Jackie.She was amazing! The facility is nice and the massage was simply amazing.I strongly reccommend Dosha,and have since sent several of my family and friends to see Jackie. more

i've only had a massage at dosha-hawthorne, so i can't critique the other services that they offer, but THE MASSAGE WAS THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. the masseuse was extremely professional and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere and ambiance...OH MY GOSH! that made the whole experience worthwhile, right there! the other staff who helped me were nice and professional. i'd send anyone anyday to dosha-hawthorne for a massage. they occasionally have offers via email and that's the whole reason i went... wouldn't have tried it otherwise because i'm on a tight budget! if ever i'm desperate for a really great massage and a relaxing experience, i'll happily pay full price for a massage! they have a soaking tub/whirlpool, and a steam room you can use after your massage, and their showers/changing areas are SUPER NICE. make sure you arrange your schedule to spend extra time so you can enjoy the atmosphere! Pros: excellent ambiance, professional staff, great value more

Choose a different salon. 2/10/2005

I went here to get my wedding hair done last week. I was so appalled at the trial hair that I've cancelled my wedding day appointment and already found a different stylist at a different salon. The service isn't much either. #1 rule on picking a salon: Check out the cuts and dye jobs of the staff. If they're terrible, you know you'll get a terrible style yourself. Trust me on this one. I came here to get a hair cut. I had to wait 20 minutes. My hairdresser hardly talked to me. The person at the front desk wasn't very friendly either. And my hair cut wasn't even that good. I'm never going back. Cons: long wait, unfriendly staff more

IN A SPA AND SALON WAS FOUND AT DOSHA. THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFUL AND MORE THAN I EXPECTED ON ALL LEVELS. THE SPA WAS SERENE AND THEY TOOK SUCH GOOD CARE OF ME. I WANT TO GO BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN. Great Day Spa 7/6/2004

I had a facial and haircut at Dosha on Hawthorne and it was excellent. The place has a definte 'day spa' feel, with a soaking pool, nice fluffy robes and showers. The treatment rooms were calm, soothing and relaxing, and the women who did my facial was a pro. They stylist really listened to what I wanted, and gave me exactly that. The staff was very helpful and kind, and when I had questions about services, the spa routines and products, they were not 'too cool for you' and didn't seem to mind what product I bought. now I know why it's a ""waiting area"" 6/6/2004

I went to this spa twice for waxing and facials ... and had to wait 30 minutes for each appointment! And they told me to be there 15 minutes early! Once I was seem, my services were good and the staff nice, but that is a ridiculous wait, especially since they only had like two magazines that were months out of date. come on.
