A Quaint and cozy Queen Anne Bed and Breakfast

Owner Message
  • The Dorsey was built between 1900 and 1901 by a prominent business and civic leader, lumber baron George F Meyer. The home is a solidly-built structure, as one would expect from a lumber and construction mogul. It has been lovingly and accurately restored. The Dorsey stands out as local example of a stylish Queen Anne home. An unusual interpretation of the Victorian house, this only remaining vernacular Queen Anne house with a neo-Jacobean influenced round conical roofed porch is an important representative of 19th Century architecture in Platteville. Platteville has grown from a lead-mining village from early 1800's to a bustling but unspoiled community among the rolling hills, mellow meadows and magnificent bluffs not far from the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. While staying in our quiet getaway you are still close to all the attractions and action. You have quick access to the Jamison Mining Museum, Mitchell-Rountree Stone Cottage, and a choice of many historic and cultural attractions a few minutes drive away. Feast on a Cornish meal of pastry or many dishes of immigrant German, Irish, Swiss, Scandinavian and other heritage tastes. Fine entertainment, from prime theater and music performances at UW-P a block away, to top touring shows in Dubuque, is always close at hand.
